GAME DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT

Assignment 1

Culturin Game Postmortem Report:

1. What's new in the game?

 Eight different boss fights, two suffering routes, and an army conflict; a compelling story
told by fully voiced characters.
 As you get stronger, choose how to advance your abilities.
 Red and black portals for those wanting a more demanding challenge.

2. What worked for them and what didn't?

 The major problem with the game was that it couldn't be replayed. Players weren't
encouraged to replay the game and gain additional knowledge because it only lasted a
few hours. Because players were unable to exchange their experiences with one another
due to the lack of online multiplayer, the game's potential was further constrained.
 Calturin's main gameplay loop functioned effectively because it offered a challenge and
was fun to play. They successfully participated in Steam festivals as well, which allowed
them to expand their wish lists. The game was too difficult for a beginner to begin with,
therefore their attempt to make it cooperative online was unsuccessful. The difficulty
curve was nicely thought out, allowing the player to advance while still being tested. The
graphics and art were also well-liked because they added to the enjoyable ambiance of
the game. The inclusion of the mini-game for the obstacle course was one of Calturin's
strongest elements. It presented a challenge while giving you a fantastic opportunity to
develop your abilities and understand the game's dynamics.

3. What could be done better in terms of engineering and design.

 Refactoring the code would improve its engineering by making it easier to comprehend
and maintain. The user interface of the game might potentially be made more simple and
user-friendly.
 The game's design might be strengthened and made more valuable with more content. A
progression system, more bosses, and levels might all help with this. The game would also
benefit from a more elaborate environment and plot development. This might be
accomplished by adding additional NPCs, dialogue, lore, and backstory. The game's
potential would be substantially increased and players would have access to more
content if online multiplayer was incorporated.

4. Postmortem report
a. Core Game loop (imp)
 The player battles three bosses in Calturin's main game loop; each boss has their
own specific skills and attacks.
 The player must overcome a variety of adversaries in between each boss.
 In order to improve their talents, the player can practice in the obstacle course of
the minigame.
 As the player advances through the game loop, the difficulty level gradually rises.

b. Feature breakdown
 The player fights three bosses in the isometric environment of Calturin. As well as a
mini-game obstacle course where players can practice utilizing the controls, the game
has a range of distinct opponents and bosses. The game's enjoyable atmosphere is
enhanced by the graphics and artwork.

c. Suggestions and feedback

The game might benefit from additional world-building and a more detailed plot.
Additional NPCs, speech, lore, and backstory could all be used to achieve this. The game
also need fresh content to increase replay value. Additional stages, bosses, and a
progression system may be added to achieve this. If online multiplayer were included, the
game's potential and the amount of content available to users would both significantly
rise.
