• It may be noted that the year 2023 has been declared by the United Nations as the
International Year of Millets.
• Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the name of 'Sri Anna' to coarse
grains / nutritious grains.
• The assessment of production of different crops is based on the feedback received from
States and validated with information available from other sources.
• This assessment shall undergo further revision over successive estimates based upon
feedback received from the states, alternative sources and other factors.
• Record production of Rice, Wheat, Maize, Gram, Moong, Rapeseed & Mustard and
Sugarcane estimated
As per Second Advance Estimates, the estimated production of major crops for 2022-23

NAMAMI Namami Gange Programme was launched in June 2014 for a period up to
GANGE 31st March, 2021 to rejuvenate River Ganga and its tributaries with a
MISSION-II budgetary outlay of Rs.20,000 crore.
The first phase of the NMCG has ended in 2021. Namami Gange Mission
II (NGM II) has been approved in February 2022 till 2026.
Budgetary outlay: Rs.22,500 crore including projects for existing
liabilities (Rs.11,225 Cr) and new projects/interventions (Rs.11,275
crore).
Key feature of NGM II
• Empanelment of agencies to support DPR preparation.
• Standardization of DPRs and training for its preparation.
• Mapping and monthly monitoring of drains by SPCBs
• Characterization of sludge and its monetization.
• Monthly reports & review of activities for improved monitoring
system.
• Institutional strengthening of SPMGs by filling up of vacancies.
• Stringent monitoring of DPRs and procurement process.
• Strengthening of DGCs through capacity building.
• Fixed day, mandated monthly, minuted DGC meetings.

Key points
• Namami Gange programme, is an integrated mission for
conservation of Ganga and its tributaries.
• A comprehensive Ganga River Basin Management Plan (GRBMP)
was developed by a consortium of seven IITs.
Integrated River Basin Management (IRBM) approach
Integrated River Basin Management (IRBM) approach is followed with
multi sectoral and multi-agency interventions such as
1. Pollution abatement (Nirmal Ganga).
2. Improving ecology and flow (Aviral Ganga).
3. Strengthen people river connect (Jan Ganga).
4. Facilitate diversified research, scientific mapping, studies, and
evidence-based policy formulation (Gyan Ganga).
5. Arth Ganga Ganga (Boosting Economy nand Lvelihood).
Arth Ganga model
Arth Ganga model which was envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister in
2019.
Aim: To strengthen the people-river connect.
The model strives to improve the quality of life of people in Ganga Basin
through sustainable economic development and strengthened people-
river connect.

Benefits: This would provide the farmer members all over the country
with requisite forward and backward linkages to market their produce,
enhance their income, obtain credit facilities and other services at village
level itself.

• The Council has also recommended to provide an amnesty scheme
for conditional deemed withdrawal of assessment orders in past
cases where the concerned return could not be filed within 30 days

Global Biofuel The Global Biofuel Alliance is one of the priorities under India’s G20
Alliance Presidency and was announced by Shri Hardeep S Puri, Minister of
Petroleum & Natural Gas during India Energy Week 2023.
Brazil, India, and the United States, as leading biofuel producers and
consumers, will work together during the next few months towards the
development of a Global Biofuels Alliance along with other interested
countries.
The Agricultural APEDA completes 37 years of its journey with exports of agricultural and

Authority Authority (APEDA), which was established in 1986 and works under

• APEDA products exported to over 200 countries.
• The target given to APEDA in the current financial year (2022-23) is
USD 23.56 billion, out of which 84% i.e. has been achieved till
December 2022.
• According to the WTO Trade Data, India was ranked at 25th in 1986,
which slipped further to 28th in 1987 and at 29th position in 1988.
• The ranking of India improved significantly as the county’s position
moved to 10th rank in 2019 which improved further to 9th position
in 2020 and at 8th rank in 2021.

The Jal Jan Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Jal Jan Abhiyan virtually
Abhiyan on Abu Road in the Sirohi district of Rajasthan.
• The Jal Jan Abhiyan will be implemented by the Ministry of Jal
Shakti and the Brahma Kumaris organization.
• The campaign’s goal is to organize 10,000 programmes and contact
at least 10 crore individuals.
• The programme is being carried out by the Raja Yogis of the Brahma
Kumaris organisation.
• In addition to protecting more than 5,000 aquatic bodies, they will
concentrate on creating new ones.
National Organ Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare organized National Organ &

Sagar Parikrama Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, starts the
Phase-III Sagar Parikrama Phase-III from Hazira Port, Gujarat, and proceeds towards
the coastal line of Maharashtra at Satpati, Vasai, Versova, and Parikrama
will end at Sasson Dock, Mumbai.
Phase I: 5th March, 2022 from Mandvi and ended on 6th March 2022 at
Porbandar.
Phase II: 22nd September 2022 from Mangrol to Veraval and ended at
Mul Dwaraka, on 23rd September 2022.
