Second Advance Estimates of production of major crops released


Second Advance Estimates of production of major crops for agricultural year 2022-23
have been released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

• It may be noted that the year 2023 has been declared by the United Nations as the
International Year of Millets.
• Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the name of 'Sri Anna' to coarse
grains / nutritious grains.
• The assessment of production of different crops is based on the feedback received from
States and validated with information available from other sources.
• This assessment shall undergo further revision over successive estimates based upon
feedback received from the states, alternative sources and other factors.
• Record production of Rice, Wheat, Maize, Gram, Moong, Rapeseed & Mustard and
Sugarcane estimated
As per Second Advance Estimates, the estimated production of major crops for 2022-23

to previous year 2021-22.

IMPORTANT NEWS
NAMAMI Namami Gange Programme was launched in June 2014 for a period up to
GANGE 31st March, 2021 to rejuvenate River Ganga and its tributaries with a
MISSION-II budgetary outlay of Rs.20,000 crore.
The first phase of the NMCG has ended in 2021. Namami Gange Mission
II (NGM II) has been approved in February 2022 till 2026.
Budgetary outlay: Rs.22,500 crore including projects for existing
liabilities (Rs.11,225 Cr) and new projects/interventions (Rs.11,275
crore).
Key feature of NGM II
• Empanelment of agencies to support DPR preparation.
• Standardization of DPRs and training for its preparation.
• Mapping and monthly monitoring of drains by SPCBs
• Characterization of sludge and its monetization.
• Monthly reports & review of activities for improved monitoring
system.
• Institutional strengthening of SPMGs by filling up of vacancies.
• Stringent monitoring of DPRs and procurement process.
• Strengthening of DGCs through capacity building.

• Namami Gange programme, is an integrated mission for
conservation of Ganga and its tributaries.
• A comprehensive Ganga River Basin Management Plan (GRBMP)

Benefits: This would provide the farmer members all over the country
with requisite forward and backward linkages to market their produce,
enhance their income, obtain credit facilities and other services at village
level itself.

The cloud-based eSanjeevani platform was introduced in two modes:
eSanjeevaniAB-HWC (a provider-to-provider telemedicine platform):
an assisted telemedicine system that connects patients through health
workers and medical officers in Health & Wellness Centres to the doctors
and specialists in hubs established in secondary/tertiary level health
facilities or medical colleges. This variant is based on a Hub-and-Spoke
model.
eSanjeevani OPD (a patient to provider telemedicine platform): it
empowers citizens to access outpatient services in the confines of their
homes through smartphones of laptops etc.

Rationalisation of Late fee for Annual Return

Subject to a maximum of 0.04% of turnover (0.02% CGST + 0.02% SGST)


for taxpayers whose AATO is up to Rs 20 crores.
Amendment to Section 62 of CGST Act, 2017
The best judgment assessment order issued under sub-section (1)
of the said section is deemed to be withdrawn if the relevant return
is filed within 30 days. The Council recommended to increase it
from present 30 days to 60 days, extendable by another 60 days,
subject to certain conditions.
As envisaged under National Education Policy 2020, Union Education
Jadui Pitara Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan launched Learning - Teaching
Material for Foundational Stage.
Background
• The National Education Policy 2020 envisages 5+3+3+4 curriculum
pedagogical structure.
• The Department of School Education & Literacy has constituted a
National Steering Committee headed by Prof. K. Kasturirangan to
develop the National Curriculum Framework for each of the stages.
• The NCF for foundational stage (FS) was launched by Ministry of
Education on 20th October, 2022.
• As per the curriculum framework, NCERT has developed and
collected Learning Teaching Material (LTM).
• Accordingly, "Learning Teaching Material" for foundational stage
was launched using the concept of "Jaadui Pitara".
• ‘Jadui Pitara’ -a play-based learning-teaching material tailored for
children between the age group of 3-8 years has been launched.

Global Biofuel The Global Biofuel Alliance is one of the priorities under India’s G20
Alliance Presidency and was announced by Shri Hardeep S Puri, Minister of
Petroleum & Natural Gas during India Energy Week 2023.

Brazil, India, and the United States, as leading biofuel producers and
consumers, will work together during the next few months towards the
development of a Global Biofuels Alliance along with other interested
countries.

Aim: This Alliance will be aimed at facilitating cooperation and intensifying


the use of sustainable biofuels, including in the transportation sector.

TAPAS UAV Altitude Long Endurance TAPAS UAV during rehearsal from height of
12000 feet.

About
• Tactical Airborne Platform for Aerial Surveillance-Beyond Horizon-
201 (TAPAS BH-201) is a Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE)
unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Formerly referred to as Rustom-II.
• It has been designed and developed by the Aeronautical Development
Establishment (ADE), Bengaluru with production partners being
Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd and Bharat Electronics Limited.
• It has an impressive flight endurance of several hours and
successfully completed its maiden flight in November 2016.

which slipped further to 28th in 1987 and at 29th position in 1988.
• The ranking of India improved significantly as the county’s position
moved to 10th rank in 2019 which improved further to 9th position
in 2020 and at 8th rank in 2021.

• The International Solar Alliance is an international organisation with
114 Member and Signatory countries.

carbon-neutral future. ISA’s mission is to unlock US$ 1 trillion of
investments in solar by 2030.
• With the signing and ratification of the ISA Framework Agreement by
15 countries on 6 December 2017, ISA became the first international
intergovernmental organisation to be headquartered in India.

Partnership: ISA is partnering with multilateral development banks
(MDBs), development financial institutions (DFIs), private and public
sector organisations, civil society, and other international institutions
to deploy cost-effective and transformational solutions through solar
energy, especially in the least Developed Countries (LDCs) and the

Operation Dost • India has sent search and rescue teams, three teams of the National
Disaster Response Force (NDRF), a field hospital, materials,
medicines, and equipment to Turkey and Syria.
• Seven four-wheeled vehicles and trucks, apart from four canines,
were sent along with the three teams that were airlifted by an Indian
Air Force (IAF) C-17 heavy lift aircraft from the Hindon air base in
Ghaziabad to the Adana airport in Turkey.

Programme” Centrally Sponsored Scheme- “Vibrant Villages Programme” (VVP) for the
Financial Years 2022-23 to 2025-26 with financial allocation of Rs.

• The scheme will provide funds for development of essential
infrastructure and creation of livelihood opportunities in 19 Districts

and 46 Border blocks 4 states and 1 UT along the northern land
border.
• In the first phase 663 Villages will be taken up in the programme.
• Out of financial allocation of Rs. 4800 Crore 2500 crore rupees will be
used for roads.
• Vibrant Village Action Plans will be created by the district
administration with the help of Gram Panchayats.
• 100 % saturation of Central and state schemes will be ensured.
• There will not be overlap with Border Area Development Programme.
• The scheme aids to identify and develop the economic drivers based
on “Hub and Spoke Model”.
• Key outcomes that have been attempted are,
o Connectivity with all-weather road, drinking water, 24x7
electricity – Solar and wind energy to be given focused

Ustad Bismillah The Union Minister for Culture, Tourism and DoNER, presented the Ustad
Khan Yuva Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar (UBKYP) 2019, 2020 and 2021, at New Delhi

Selection of awards: Sangeet Natak Akademi, the national academy of
Music, Dance and Drama, and the apex body of the performing arts in the
country, selected 102 artists (including three joint awards).
About
The Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, given to artists up to the age of
40 years, was introduced in the year 2006.
Objective: Identifying and encouraging outstanding young talents in
diverse fields of the performing arts and giving them national recognition
early in their life, so that they may work with greater commitment and
dedication in their chosen fields.

The Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar carries a purse money of Rs
25,000/- (Rupees twenty-five thousand only), an Angavastram and a
plaque.
International The Central Water Commission (CWC), Department of Water Resources,
Centre of River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, entered into a Memorandum of
Excellence for Agreement for Development of International Centre of Excellence for
Dams (ICED) Dams (ICED) under externally funded Dam Rehabilitation and
Improvement Project Phase II and Phase III.
Purpose: The Centre will work for agreed dam safety areas to support and
provide solutions to various emerging challenges faced in dam safety
through scientific research and latest technological innovations.

• The ICED is being set up at a cost of Rs. 109 Crore, being borne by
the Department of Water Resources, Ganga Rejuvenation & River
Development, as non-recurring grant in six tranches.
• ICED, Roorkee will provide specialized technical support in
investigations, modelling, research and innovations, and technical
support services to the Indian and overseas dam owners.
• IITR will endeavor to reach a level of self-sufficiency within ten (10)
years by generating income streams through the knowledge and
capabilities developed on dam safety & rehabilitation.

The Jal Jan Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Jal Jan Abhiyan virtually
Abhiyan on Abu Road in the Sirohi district of Rajasthan.
• The Jal Jan Abhiyan will be implemented by the Ministry of Jal
Shakti and the Brahma Kumaris organization.
• The campaign’s goal is to organize 10,000 programmes and contact
at least 10 crore individuals.
• The programme is being carried out by the Raja Yogis of the Brahma
Kumaris organisation.
• In addition to protecting more than 5,000 aquatic bodies, they will
concentrate on creating new ones.
National Organ Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare organized National Organ &
and Tissue Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) Scientific Dialogue 2023 on 19 Feb

(NOTTO) Purpose: To bring all the stakeholders under one roof to brainstorm ideas
about interventions and best practices in the organ and tissue transplant
field that can be taken up for saving lives.

• For the first time country has achieved more than 15,000 transplants

National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO)

It is a National level organization set up under Directorate General of Health


Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India
located at Institute of Pathology (ICMR) Building in Safdarjung Hospital New
Delhi.

It has following two divisions

1. "National Human Organ and Tissue Removal and Storage Network”


2. "National Biomaterial Centre”.

About

The Department of Fisheries, has launched the ‘Sagar Parikrama’


program on the occasion of 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Objective: To disseminate information of various fisheries related schemes


and programs being implemented by the government, promoting
responsible fisheries, protecting marine ecosystems, and demonstrating
solidarity with all fisher folk and concerned stakeholders.

Phase I: 5th March, 2022 from Mandvi and ended on 6th March 2022 at
Porbandar.
Phase II: 22nd September 2022 from Mangrol to Veraval and ended at
Mul Dwaraka, on 23rd September 2022.
International International Mother Language Day is observed globally on February 21

Objective: To promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.

History

• It was Bangladesh that had put forward this idea to celebrate one’s
mother language.
• International Mother Language Day was first announced by the
General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999.
• It was formally recognized by the UN General Assembly in its
resolution of 2002.

Fact about Mother language

• At least 43% of the estimated 6,000 languages spoken in the world


are endangered.
• Only a few hundred languages have genuinely been given a place in
education systems and the public domain.
• Less than a hundred are used in the digital world.

World Social Every year, February 20 marks the World Day of Social Justice across the
Justice Day globe.

Goal: To raise a voice against social injustice and to bring various


communities together.

Theme: “Overcoming Barriers and Unleashing Opportunities for Social


Justice”.

History

• In 1995, the World Summit for Social Development was held in


Copenhagen, Denmark, and resulted in the Copenhagen Declaration
