IHP Specifications of Hydraulic & Pneumatic Service Unit

1. INTRODUCTION :
A hydraulic power pack is a stand-alone assembly consisting of a drive motor, hydraulic pump and
hydraulic fluid tank. The drive motor is connected to the hydraulic pump via a shaft and drives this.
The motor and pump can be installed on the tank, as well as inside the tank in oil. The tank size,
withdrawal, feed and critical flow speeds depend on the task and application, and must be configured
accordingly. The extracted volume is determined in accordance with the size of the consumers and
thus the overall need for fluid in the hydraulic system.

Hydraulic power units (sometimes referred to as a hydraulic power pack)is a self-

contained system that generally includes a motor, a fluid reservoir, and a pump. It
works to apply the hydraulic pressure needed to drive motors, cylinders, and other
complementary parts of a given hydraulic system

2. HISTORY OF HYDRAULICSYSTEMS

The history of hydraulic systems can be traced back to the 1646, whenBraise
Pasca performed the first hydrostatic experiment.
He used a Pascal’s barrel to investigate the effect of a force applied a tone
point of the fluid and how it is transmitted to the other sections within an
enclosed system. The outcome of his experiments resulted in a scientific law
/principle called Pascal Law or Pascal Principle.

1. Standard hydraulic power unit (HPS)

This hydraulic power unit uses a standard range of modular components for
easy specification, assembly and maintenance in the most demanding industrial
applications. With motors upto 30 kW, flow rates to 100Litres/minute, tank
capacities to 180litres and pressure capability to 250 bar, we can offer a hydraulic
power unit system to meet most industrial requirements.

Identification
Hydraulic power packs are stand-alone devices, as opposed to a built-inpower
supply for hydraulic machinery. Some power packs are large, stationary units and
others are more portable. They have a hydraulic reservoir, which houses the fluid,
regulators that allow users to control the amount of pressure the power pack delivers
to a valve, pressure supply lines and relief lines, a pump and a motor to power the
pump.

Function
Hydraulic power packs typically offer a choice of valve connections, allowing
users to connect them to a control valve or valves to power avariety of machines. The
power pack supplies hydraulic power through acontrol valve to run another machine.

Maintenance
Hydraulic power packs need regular maintenance to extend their life and to
allow safe operation. Maintenance includes checking the tubing fordents, cracks or
other problems, changing the hydraulic fluid and checking the reservoir for rust or
corrosion

INTRODUCTION

Pneumatic service Unit:

Pneumatic service units, normally consisting of filter regulator and fog
lubricator, are intended forcleaning compressed air for workshop purposes from
liquid and solid contamination, for pressure regulation and forproviding a fine
oil spray for the lubrication for cylinders, valves, pneumatic tools etc.

Air leaving a compressor is hot, dirty, and wet—which can damage and shorten the
life of downstream equipment, including valves, cylinders, and air tools. So before
compressed air exits the system, it needs to be cleaned and lubricated. That’s where an
FRL comes in An FRL combines a filter, regulator, and lubricator into one component
to keep air compressor systems in optimal working condition.

G.P.AMB 1

FRL COMPONENTS :

An FRL has three primary components:

Airline filter, Pressure regulator & Lubricator

Each of these individual components has its role, supporting the larger air
compressor system. We will explain more about these roles in the following
sections.

Airline Filter :
An airline filter cleans compressed air. It strains the air, traps solid particles (dust,
dirt, rust), and separates liquids (water, oil) entrained in the compressed air. Filtersare
installed in the air line upstream of regulators, lubricators, directional control valves, and
air-driven devices such as cylinders and air motors.

FRL System

Because airline filters remove contaminants from pneumatic systems, they

prevent damage to equipment and reduce production losses due to contaminant-
related downtime. Downtime is expensive, and it is often the result of a
contaminated and poorly maintained compressed air system.

G.P.AMB 1

Selecting the proper filter size for any application should be done by determining
the maximum allowable pressure drop, which the filter can cause. The pressure
drop can be determined by referring to flow curves provided by
themanufacturer.

Types of Air Filters:

There are three common types of air filters:
General purpose
Coalescing (oil removal) Vapor removal

G.P.AMB 1

PRESSURE REGULATORS:
Pressure regulators reduce and control air pressure in compressed air systems,
including rotary screw air compressors. Regulators are also frequently referred toas
PRVs (pressure reducing valves).

LUBRICATOR:

A lubricator adds controlled quantities of tool oil into a compressed air system to
reduce the friction of moving components. Most air tools, cylinders, valves, air motors.
General purpose filters are used to remove water and particles while coalescing filters
remove oil, and vapor removal filters remove oil vapor andodor.

Adding lubrication to system also “washes away” compressor oils that travel
through the system in vapor form. Mineral oils added to the system prevent
synthetic compressor oil build- up on system components. When lubricators are not
used in a system, acoalescing filter should be installed to remove compressor
oilaerosols.

FUNCTIONS

The main function of the service unit is to provide the pneumatic system with a well
cleaned, lubricated and regulated compressed air.

Specifications

Medium : Compressed air. Mounting:Suitable for line, wall or bracket mounting.

Connection Size : 1/2"(inch)

Flow rate : Not less than 3700 lpm.Working pressure

range:0to10bar.
Filter element : 40microns.

Drain type : Automatic drainfacility.

Filter bowl capacity: Notlessthan40cc .

 ADVANTAGES

Like pressure regulators, the lubricator functio n of an FRL unit ensures that
the air is dosed with a small amount of lubrication oil to help pneumatic
components work effectively.
Lubricators ensure that the correct amount of oil is being used to reduce the
friction between moving components.
