trapped in the North Pacific Gyre, which divided into Eastern Garbage Patch
and Western Garbage Patch.
3.The context of the information is about what area of the garbage patch that
let reader know about the man-made disaster.
4.I think this information come from a person that is making an argument on
this issue, and he use this text to get readers' attention.

destroyed the environment as well as homes of other living creatures.
4.No one is "saying" this, the pictures are either taken by photographers or
created by editors in order to illustrate the problem.
5.The images convey the perspective by giving out portray of the impact of
the garbage patch on the ocean. This medium is not really effective because it
is missing the explanation text, some people might not understand what all the
images are about. However, it has done a good job in create sympathy for
readers since it is the surest route to people's emotions and influences their
attitudes

Website 1.The "The Ocean Cleanup" organization shows people a project called "The
Largest Cleanup In History" where they incorporated advanced technologies
on how to remove the plastic on the ocean.
2.The website points out its goal, which is to clean up 90% of ocean plastic
pollution. The point of view here is that they are showing their action of
protecting the water environment and calling for people to join them.
3.The context of the information is to show people how using cost-effective,
technology-involved cleanup method can efficiently clean up the plastics in
the ocean.
4.It is said by "The Ocean Cleanup" organization, showing how they develop
new technology to contribute for a better ocean.
5.The website communicates the perspective by showing what the
organization is doing and how it would protect the ocean. It is very effective
because it has the most important information that it wants to tell about the
project of protecting the Pacific Ocean. It also provides additional links to
other articles for people who want to research more about this issue.

clean up the Great Pacific garbage patch.
2.The point of view of the issue shows that it is not easy to clean up the
ocean. This technology used was something that has never been done before,
so there are a few things that are unconventional. However, once the problems
have been fixed, it will become fully operational.
3.The context of the information is about how large the amount if the plastic
is in the ocean. Even though a lot of scale models and prototypes were made,
the Ar0cledevice still cannot retain a certain amount of plastic. Moreover, the
use of this device might affect the marine creature since they swim among
those plastics.
4.This article is said by Hannah Summers, a reporter at the Guardian
5.This article communicates the perspective by giving out the information of
the incident and provide experts' point of view to counter the argument on
using advanced technologies. This medium is very effective because the
information come from a reliable source, The Guardian, and supported with
different perspectives

or viewing the images? Why?
2. What meaning do you take from the images as compared with the written text?
 How can we view images in a critical way to best inform our perspective?

6. Discuss how each contributed to or affected/influenced your perspective on the issue.

 What is the most effective layout of information?

1. Which had more impact on your perspective of this global environmental issue,

reading the text or viewing the images? Why?

Reading the text had more impact on my perspective of this global environmental issue because
the text provides a clearer and detailed guideline of information about the issue. Viewing the
images only help me recognize generally what the issue is, it does not inform enough for a
person to start considering the problem.

2. What meaning do you take from the images as compared with the written text?

While the text is informing the me why the problem is important, the images, on the other hand,
reinforce those insights. The images also affect my emotions as well since it has always a strong
contributor when talking about pathos persuasive technique.

How can we view images in a critical way to best inform our perspective?

To view images in a critical way, we need to consider what the image is generally about. Then, we
need to look closer in order to take out as much information from the image as possible. From
there, we started dig into the deeper meaning, or find out the messages that the photographer
wants to tell us when they post the image.

Why do authors use visual images in addition to their text?

The authors use visual images in addition to their text in order to enhance the information proved
in the text with the purpose of driving readers to a deeper and more emotional meaning.

With which image do you most identify? Why?

The image of the turtle, whose shell was transformed by a piece of plastic. This image has not
been through processing, it is showing the actual situation that plastic can causes. It evokes the
emotions better than other images.

How do the images affect your perspective on this environmental issue?

The images affect me emotionally by showing the horrible situation that our ocean and its
creature is having. They make me feel guilty for using plastic product. From now on, every time
I am taking a plastic bag from the store, I will always be reminded of those kinds of horrible
images.

3. How does the text affect your perspective on this environmental issue?
The text provides me the general information of the issue. It hooks my attention and makes me
form my opinion from scratch about the waste and litter that we throw in the ocean every second
of life.

4. How does the video affect your perspective on this environmental issue?

The video gives an emotional presentation of what the situation is when we continue using un-
biodegradable product, which makes me inclined to stop using plastic.

5. How does the article and website affect your perspective?

By showing different argument between two reliable sources and experts, the article and website
makes me consider which argument have more impact and start forming my opinion on the issue.

6. Discuss how each contributed to or affected/influenced your perspective on the issue.

Different mediums contribute differently to form my perspective of the Great Pacific garbage
patch issue. The text hooked me into the issue by giving some general information and inspired
the need to take action while the images presented the destructive ocean of garbage, driving my
feelings about taking action immediately to save the environment. The website communicated
the initiatives being taken to reduce the impact of garbage spillage into the oceans. In other hand,
the article triggered a further discussion by telling the pros and cons of the ocean cleanup
initiatives. These two medium cause me to change my perspective a little bit, which actuate me
to think more critically about the problem, that cleaning will never be the best way to get rid of
the issue,we have to stop polluting the ocean. Additionally, the video provided a strong
persuasion that tell us to become responsible and support to clean up the ocean. The most
effective part is the video. The most important purpose of all five medium is to warn us about the
global environmental disaster and call for action to stop using plastic and throwing them into the
ocean. Out of the five mediums, I think that the video has done the best delivering that purpose
and effect the viewers. The information given in the video is enough for people to start taking
their action. In conclusion, the best way to solve this issue is to persuade people to reduce the
amount of plastic waste that they are using and collect them instead litter in the mix
garbage.Using technologies for cleaning might help, but that is a temporary solution, not a
complete solution. This will only ends when people truly understand how horrible thing they are
doing to the environment and stop it.
