Time: 3 Hours MAX.MARKS 80

General Instructions:

i. Question paper comprises five Sections – A, B, C, D and E. There are 37 questions


in the question paper. All questions are compulsory.
ii. Section A – From question 1 to 20 are MCQs of 1 mark each
iii. Section B – Question no. 21 to 24 are Very Short Answer Type Questions, carrying
2 marks each. Answer to each question should not exceed 40 words
iv. Section C contains Q.25to Q.29 are Short Answer Type Questions, carrying 3 marks
each. Answer to each question should not exceed 60 words
v. Section D – Question no. 30 to 33 are long answer type questions, carrying 5 marks
each. Answer to each question should not exceed 120 words
vi. Section-E - Questions no from 34 to 36 are case based questions with three sub
questions and are of 4 marks each.
vii. Section F – Question no. 37 is map based, carrying 5 marks with two parts, 37a
from History (2 marks) and 37b from Geography (3 marks).
viii. There is no overall choice in the question paper. However, an internal choice has
been provided in few questions. Only one of the choices in such questions have to
be attempted.
ix. In addition to this, separate instructions are given with each section and question,
wherever necessary.

34 Study the given sources and answer the questions that follow

New form of popular literature appeared in print ,targeting new audiences. Bookseller
employed peddler who roamed around villages ,carrying little books for sale. There were
almanacs or ritual calendars ,along with ballads and folktales .But other form of reading matters
,largely for entertainment ,began to reach ordinary readers as well .In England ,when we chat
books were carried by pretty pedlers known as Chapmen and sold for a penny ,so that even
the poor could buy them .In France,were the "Biliotheque blueue” ,which were low price small
books printed on poor quality paper ,and bond and she blue covers .Then there were romances
printed in 4 to 6 pages ,and the more substantial 'histories’ which were stories about the
past .Books were various sizes ,serving many different purposes and interests. The periodical
press development from the earlier 18th century ,combined information about the current
affairs with entertainment .Newspapers and journals carried information about wars and
trade ,as well as news of development in other places .similarly ,the idea of sizes the
philosophers now became accessible to common people .Ancient and mediaeval scientific texts
were compiled and published ,and maps and scientific diagrams were widely printed .When
scientist like Isaac Newton began to publish their new discoveries ,they could influence a much
wider circle of scientifically minded readers. The writings of thinkers such as Thomas
Paine ,Voltaire and Jean Jack Rousseau were also widely printed and read .Their idea about
science, reason and rationality found their way to popular literature.

34. Communal politics is based on the idea that religion is the principal basis of social
community. Communism involves thinking along with the following lines. The followers of the
particular religion must belong to one community. Their fundamental interest are the same.
Any difference that they may have is irrelevant or tribal of community life. It also follows that
people who follow different religions cannot belong to the family laws those laws that deal with
family related matters such as marriage, divorce , adoption inheritance , etc. In our country
different family law apply to followers of different religion,same social community. If the
follower of different religion have same, commonalities these are superficial and
immaterial .Their interest or bond to be different and involve a conflict. In its extreme form of
communalism led to the belief that people belonging to different religions cannot live as equal
citizens within one nation . Either one of them has to be dominate the rest or they have to
form different nations.

35 The iron and steel industry is the basic industry since all the other industries - heavy, medium and

development. Iron and steel is a heavy industry because all the raw materials as well as finished
goods are heavy and bulky entailing heavy transportation costs. Iron ore, coking coal and limestone
are required in the ratio of approximately 4 : 2 : 1. Some quantities of manganese are also required
to harden the steel. India ranks 3rd among the world crude s

9teel producers. It is the largest producer of sponge iron. In 2016 per capita consumption of steel in
the country was only around 63 kg per annum against the world average of 208 kg.
