ABIA STATE

REPORT OF THE PHYSICIANS WEEK COMMITTEE

The committee was set up by the NMA executive by proxy 12 days into
the opening ceremony due to limited time and lack of funds.
There was no defined terms of reference, however, the committee was
directed to:

Source funds to ensure a successful physician’s week with a promise to


refund all expenses made.

The committee swung into action and could achieve the following:

1. Raised over 4 million Naira Which was paid directly into the NMA
First Bank account.
2. Invited personalities who not only graced the occasion physically but
made donations to support the week

3. Distinguished members of the association were given their rightful


places as honoured members, medical elders, past and present leadership
of the association and affiliates etc.

Challenges

1. *Finance*
This was not forth coming from the NMA even though they received
ALL the sourced funds. However, it was never a major problem as
majority of the committee members spent their personal money to ensure
that the NMA was not disappointed, these include Dr. Uko, Dr. Lisa
Eweputanna, Dr. Mercy Enyinwa and Dr. Mazi Ejikem

2. *DONORS*
It was embarrassing to members of the committee when some donors
called to inquire if NMA received their donations example is the MD
former NNPC filling station at Ohia who made a donation of #50, 000.00
we were not able to answer as we're no privy to the info on the amount
paid directly into the NMA account.
3. *LIST OF DONOR*
We are yet to get a comprehensive list of donors from the NMA in order
to appreciate them.

4. *REFUND*
A total of N 603,150.00 owed to the committee members is yet to be paid
and it is quite discouraging.

*RECOMMENDATION*
1. Efforts should be made to appoint physicians week committee within
one week of inauguration of a new EXCO.
2. The terms of reference of the committee should be clearly defined to
avoid clash of interest or duplication of functions.

3. Immediate refund of the expenses made by the members of the


committee who have not only sacrificed their time but also their money to
ensure the success of the physician’s week.

*APPRICIATION*
On behalf of the 2022 physician’s week committee, we sincerely express
our gratitude to the NMA executive for finding us worthy to serve. We
will not fail to appreciate the words of encouragement we received from
most of our members during and after the week –
Dr. Enwerenmadu (Enyiabia) Dr. John Chikezie, Barr. Dr. Aguocha, Dr.
Mrs. Iwuoha, Elder Dr. Obasi prof. Chuks kamanu, prof S. Onwere. Just
to mention a few.

To the past and present NMA Zonal leadership including the affiliates.
We say thank you for your wonderful cooperation and advice especially
UMUAHIA Zonal NMA chairman Dr UHUABA.
To DR IFENKORO, We say thank you for your interventions that helped
us.
