CHARACTERS
• Are the people or animals in the story.
• Characters perform the actions and speak dialogue, moving the story
along a plot line.
• Example

• Who is the character of the selection?

SETTINGS
• Talks about the place and the time that the events in the story
happened.
• It can also include social statuses, weather, historical period, and
details about immediate surroundings.
• It provides the backdrop to the story and helps create moods.
• Example
• Where is the exact location of the said selection?

PLOT
• Made up of events that happened in the story.
• It consists of the beginning, the middle and the ending.
• Beginning- it gives the problem faced by the main character.
• Middle- it presents the action made by the characters to solev the
problem.
• Ending- it gives the solution to the problem.
• These events relate to each other in a pattern or a sequence.

The Tortoise and the Hare

After watching the video, answer the following question;


• Who are the characters of the video?
• Where is the exact location of the said selection?
• Can you spot where is the beginning, middle, and ending part?

3. Beginning- There was once a tortoise that slowly crawled through a
forest. A bouncing hare saw the tortoise and made fun of him. The
angered tortoise stopped walking and said “hey! Let’s race to the top
of the mountain and see who gets there faster!”
Middle- The hare raced ahead and took a nap. The tortoise passed
with the hare.
Ending- The tortoise won the race. Hare woke up and scurried up
the hill. But it was to late. Tortoise was already resting under a tree
at the top of the mountain.
For us to test if you really understand the elements of a story, let us make a
short story.

Direction: Write a short story using the three (3) story elements (character,
setting and plot). Follow the given format bellow.
