Apply Creativity in Packaging

What’s In

Most of the packaging design we see are boring square boxes with brand logos.
But there are a few products out there with creative packaging design that are bound to
attract consumers attention.
For a packaging design to be considered good, it should not only look fantastic,
but also should clearly project the message the manufacturer wants to convey so the
consumers can get it. This is not an easy feat, but there are a few creative packaging
designs that get this right.

What’s New
Creative packaging is a way of designing packaging materials with different
colors, shapes, letters, form, etc. This is to make the packaging more appealing to the
customers. The design should also be cost-effective, which means cheaper cost but high
in quality. Packaging is a form of promotion; good packaging will give a good first
impression to the customers.
There are three questions you must answer to before you start designing the
packaging for a product.

What is the product?

What are you selling? How big is it? What materials is it made of? Is it delicate?
This question is going to help you determine if there are any logistical musts for
your product packaging. For example, a delicate product will require more secure
packaging. Something that is large or with odd dimensions, on the other hand, may
require a custom packaging solution instead of an out-of-the-box box.

Who is buying the product?

A product’s packaging should appeal to its ideal consumer; it is important to
know who that consumer is before you start the design process. Products for older
adults may need larger text. Alternatively, items geared towards an affluent customer
will need to consider materials that create a feeling of luxury.
How are people buying the product?
Are they purchasing it in a supermarket? A small boutique? Online?
You are going to want to think about packaging differently if the product is going
to be sold online and shipped than if it is going to need to stand out from the competition
on a big-box store shelf. Items that will be sold online probably should not have a lot of
extra space that could cause the product to rattle around, or the package to bend. And
those that will be on a boutique shelf will need to catch the eye of a buyer surrounded
by cutesy items in cutesy packages.

How to create an Interesting Packaging

Personalize the packaging.
Packaging your products in a bland, brown carton is a complete no-no. Now,
more customers are posting the box along with the products in their social media
channels. You do not want to be caught with the mistake of shoddy, boring packaging.
The packaging itself is a product. Consider it as an extension of your product.
Choose a packaging design that reflects your brand and appeals to customers. Put the
logo in a creative way to make it catchy and memorable.
Choose a sturdy box or wrap products in a handmade or custom-made paper.
Another thing is to maximize the front, back and sides of the box. You can put designs
on this space to make it more personalized for the customer.

Make the unboxing special and offer a treat.

For packaging to be incredibly effective, you need to grab the customer’s
attention. Appeal to the senses by offering more than just a box. Be artistic, creative,
funny, and quirky. Make sure that the packaging really makes you stand out among the
rest.
The package should give them a positive feeling when they look at the package.
Make the unboxing a fun experience!

Pick a color and style that resonates with your brand.

The color and style of the packaging of your product also reflect your brand. Pick
a color that evokes positive emotions like blue, green, pink, red, and yellow, to name
some. Choose a color that goes along with your brand and products.
According to an infographic of online marketing expert Neil Patel, “85% of
shoppers say that color is the primary reason for buying a product. More than 90% of
purchase decisions are influenced by visual factors.” That is how important the color
scheme is in the packaging of your products, and brand design in general.
Use packaging materials with style.
There are different kinds of package cushioning that you can choose from. Inside
the box, you can wrap the products in bubble wrap or thick paper for safe transport. If
your products do not need much protection, you can opt to use hand-made or custom-
made paper to wrap the products.
You can source the packaging materials that offer boxes/bags in different sizes
and styles. Considering the size, weight, and fragility of your products, you need to
provide standard-sized packaging in small, medium, and large size.

Package the product neatly.

Aside from going the extra mile in packaging your products, you should also take
as much effort in the arrangement of the products inside. Considering that your
products will be carried out or shipped out, your products will be tossed around. That
is why you need to make sure that the products are arranged in a way that the products
are intact.
You can also individually wrap the products in bubble-wrap, plastic or any
protective cushioning so that the products will arrive safely and neatly in the hands of
your customers.

What is It?

Packaging, when done correctly and creatively, is ultimately what sells your
product. It is more than just putting your logo on a package. It draws attention, sends
a message, and makes consumers feel a certain way.

How to Apply creativity in packaging

1. Use patterns - Use patterns to step up a simple take on packaging.
2. Consider all available space - When creating a package, utilize every inch that you
can. Instead of leaving the inside untouched, the pattern makes the box feel more
upscale, which, in turn, makes the product inside seem more upscale.
3. Complement the product - Make sure your design complements the product that is
inside.
4. Be modern – Modern, sleek, and simple designs stand out. Use clean lines, simple
colors, and sans serif fonts to achieve a modern look.
5. Be bold - Using multiple colors and shapes in an interesting pattern is a great way to
stand out.
6. Use texture - Instead of only using texture visually, use it physically. People will be
physically interacting with your package, so appeal to their sense of touch, not just their
sense of sight.
7. Be bright - Use accents of the bright colors in your packaging. Pick a color that stands
out and makes your product label memorable.
8. Tell a story - If you can tell a story with your packaging, you’re doing yourself a huge
favor. People love stories, and they love uncovering the information they may not
otherwise.
9. Serve another purpose - Being eco-friendly is a great way to get people to love your
brand. One way to be ecofriendly is to give your product’s packaging another purpose.
10. Consider the process - If your product is something you believe to be gift-worthy,
display it that way.
