Teaching Philosophy

My goal as a teacher is to cultivate the intellectual growth and social development of my

students. To achieve this goal, my teaching method for writing will be centered on a
process-oriented approach that encourages students to take risks, make mistakes, explore ideas,
and engage actively with the writing process. I want to create a supportive and collaborative
learning environment that promotes critical thinking skills among my students. To accomplish
this task, I want to teach them how to publish their work. I want my students to be able to look
back on their work and see how much they have grown, by engaging them in all the stages of the
writing process including brainstorming, drafting/revising/editing before publishing it through
posts or websites (e.g., Google Drive, or school website ), etc.
My teaching approach, I will prioritize student centered instruction by letting students
have a say in what they want to learn and I want to keep my students engaged and motivated to
learn. I will have to carefully create materials like lesson plans and activities that are relevant to
my students’ lives. I want my students to be able to take what they have learned and use it in
their other classes and personal lives. By incorporating activities that are related to my students’
lives, these activities will keep them engaged and they can find enjoyment in the process for
themselves.
My teaching methodology is based on the idea that all students possess a certain level of
independence, which allows them to make their own decisions in learning and applying new
information. In my class I will utilize interactive methods such as word walls and activities that
encourage students to explore and discover new words, which will enhance their composition
skills as well. As my students move forward with the writing process, and move into drafting and
revising their work, spelling and syntax will be integrated by providing modeled and guided
instruction that will help them become better writers. I will implement a writing process that
includes pre-writing tasks such as brainstorming and organizing thoughts, vocabulary building,
interactive methods to encourage students to explore and discover new words, timed writing
sessions, peer editing sessions, and feedback on areas requiring improvement.
As an educator, it's my responsibility to not only teach my students but to also learn from
them. I want my students to feel at ease and confident in providing me with remarks. I will
check in with my students on a weekly to monthly basis to see how things are going in and
outside of class, what they would like to learn, how I can help them, and what they occasionally
like or dislike about my teaching. In order for me to improve as a teacher and person, I believe it
is critical for my students, their parents, and other teachers to provide me with constructive
criticism regarding how I teach. I want to be the most effective educator I can be, and the only
way that I will achieve this is by learning from those who observe me.
As a crucial part of the writing process that will help students improve both their critical
thinking and writing abilities, I will use a range of peer evaluation activities. Peer review is the
most common form of feedback, when students are required to read another student's paper
before submitting their own. Other times, I could ask the class to get feedback by having
students select three or four other students that are interested in reviewing each other's works. I
want my students to consider both beneficial and detrimental responses when deciding who to
ask for help in this activity.
It is my responsibility as an educator to create a welcoming environment in the classroom
where students feel comfortable speaking out and exchanging opinions. This can be
accomplished through creating collaborative work environments, valuing other viewpoints,
encouraging active listening techniques, and establishing clear guidelines for behavior and
interpersonal interactions. Designing the classroom or workstations with comfort in mind, such

as seating arrangements, can assist students feel less anxious, which will ultimately result in
improved focus during writing sessions. I also want to include current events in my lessons, so
that students do not feel like their home lives are afterthoughts. They will be able to share things
that are important to them and know what is happening around them is effect everyone, it might
not always be the same but it’s still important.
My approach to teaching writing in elementary school is based on the ideas of inclusion,
teamwork, and education that is focused on the needs of the students. I am dedicated to making
sure my students have the abilities they need to become skilled communicators and I want my
students to be passionate about learning. Students will be inspired to explore their creativity and
express their thoughts in writing, it is my intention, by implementing research-based techniques
and developing an inclusive teaching environment.
