6. At this point in time, do you think your teacher education curriculum or degree program prepares you for

your future job as a teacher? Please Explain.

Definitely! I believe that my teachers and the degree program prepares me to be a teacher in the

future. The degree program that I am taking is a four-year program that teaches students how to teach both

theory and practice. It develops pedagogical expertise, including, among other things, foundations of

education, teaching principles, facilitating learning, curriculum development, child and adolescent

psychology, assessment of student learning, preparation of educational technology and instructional

materials, classroom management, and disciplining expertise. We students, receive active mentoring from

highly experienced professional teachers during an intensive one-year practicum taught in the school.

7. What feature of your degree illustrate that the curriculum is outcome-based?

The Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) is a four-year program that teaches students how to

teach both theory and practice. It develops pedagogical expertise, including, among other things, foundations

of education, teaching principles, facilitating learning, curriculum development, child and adolescent

psychology, assessment of student learning, preparation of educational technology and instructional

materials, classroom management, and disciplining expertise. The program offers specialization in the

following areas: Mathematics, English, Filipino, science, religious and moral education, and social studies

are all included. The program comes to an end with a one-year intensive practice teaching in schools, where

student teachers are actively mentored by professional teachers with a lot of experience. When an outcomes-

based education model is student-centered and all learning objectives are clearly stated in advance, students

know what is expected of them and can adjust their focus and questions accordingly. A model of outcomes-

based education needs to be adaptable enough to take into account the strengths and weaknesses of each

student. Flexibility is also essential for giving students enough time to become proficient or fluent.

SELF-CHECK

The new teacher education curriculum is based on Outcome-Based Education as evidenced by the

constructive alignment of the important elements of the curriculum.

As a student of curriculum and a future teacher, would you be able to:

1. Know exactly what need to do to achieve the outcome even at the beginning of your degree plan? Yes or

No?

No, because I don’t have enough knowledge about what exactly I needed to do to achieve the

outcome since it was only the beginning of my degree plan.

2. Identify what you will do in order to achieve the desired outcomes? Yes or No?

Yes, because there are many ways to create a positive learning environment for students that takes

into account each student's learning style and devises a strategy to incorporate these styles into a learning

experience in order to achieve the desired positive and attainable learning outcome.

3. Measure the desired outcome if it has been achieved? Yes or No?

Yes, because when students achieve the desired learning outcomes, you will know if your instruction

is effective. Which, in many instances, can be measured as evidence of student achievement of learning

outcomes through assignments, writing, projects, exams, and assessments. In other instances, surveys that

have been carefully designed serve as evidence.

4. Develop the competencies required for all future teachers? Yes or No?

now that I am in my third year of college. I can clearly see that I have made significant progress since

beginning the course.
