CENG216 - Analysis of Plane Truss - L02 Practice Problems

This document presents 5 practice problems on analyzing plane trusses using the method of joints and method of sections. Problem 1 involves determining the external reactions and internal forces in each member of a truss using the method of joints. Problem 2 involves determining whether a truss is statically determinate, identifying any zero force members, and finding the force in each member using the method of joints. Problem 3 involves finding the support reactions and internal forces in all members of a loaded truss using the method of joints. Problem 4 involves finding the force in member BC using the method of sections. Problem 5 involves finding the support reactions and internal forces in members GB and GF using the method of sections. The instructor motivates solving engineering problems to

engineering profession, but will make you a team player in addressing societal problems
Be a problem solver!

2
Problem 01
For the truss shown below, use the method of joints to determine;
I. The external reactions
ii. The internal forces in each of the members and state whether they are in tension or compression

3
Problem 02

For the following truss;

I. State whether it is statically determinate or not
II. Are there any zero force members
III. Determine the force in each member of the loaded truss by the method of joints and describe their nature

4
Problem 03

Consider the idealized truss structure with a pin support at A and a roller support at C. The truss is subjected
to applied loads at D and E. Using the method of joints;
I. Determine the reactions at the supports
II. Find the internal forces in all the seven members and state whether they are in tension or compression

5
Problem 04
Using the method of section, find the force in member BC and state whether it is in tension or compression

6
Problem 05
Given the loads as shown on the truss, use the method of sections to find;
I. The reactions at the supports
II. The internal forces in members GB and GF and describe their nature
