introduction
In this article I am going to talk about how the media and communization has
developed sport as a whole and how they both form a symbiotic relationship. A
symbiotic relationship is defined as two things that go hand in hand with each other. I
am also going to be talking about how both sport and commersilation both form a
global product. Through the article I am going to explain the types of media and their
impact on the public eye.
Sport needs media in order to bring in funding so the sport cam evolve and grow.

P4. How has the media impacted on sport development?

As the media fluctuates and puts more focus into sport, the media will provide a
positive impact as it can make sports popularity grow in significant numbers. Sport
can be seen as a business as clubs as such can be bought by wealthy people and
sold for lots of money, even billions in some rare cases. In other ways in can impact
a club on its own. For example, you can pay coaches that focus on specific
categories to better a certain player in a certain position. For example, a club might
bring in a goalkeeper coach to improve the goalkeeper’s performance and give the
team an upper hand to the opponents. As the media makes the sport grow, more
funding and mainstage opportunities can take place. Improved standards is a big
factor in this as this can better the whole club. For example, the club could get more
funding and get better equipment and technical staff and this could the sport a
positive image in the lime light. The value of sport can only increase within the
popularity, this means that with popularity increases sport can become more popular
and grow and more people will know about it. An example of this would be sports
within the Winter Olympics and their popularity will increase due to the fact that
people will be playing them in the Olympics. With quality and quantity of coverage of
the sport it can be seen that sport with more popularity will get more coverage and
the quality of the coverage will be greater. An example of this will be in football within
the UK, football within the UK is the most popular sport and is covered every week
on multiple days. However a sport like basketball only gets limited coverage and you
can only watch it through live stream or certain TV channels because the sport is not
as popular as football here. Rule changes within sport can be very overwhelming
and can become very dramatic within times. Examples of this would be the new
video assistant referee system in football. Some may say that the new video
assistant referee system can be seen as a good thing because it makes football
more fair and respectful between the two sides. And others may say that the video
assistant referee system is a negative impact on football because it destroys the
traditional referee first eye within the game. The value of sport can only increase
within popularity. This is because sport will need funding to be able to be able to
promote their sport. An example of this will be Men’s and women’s football. This is
because men’s football is dramatically and well known to be more popular than
women’s football, this means that men will get more funding than women because
women football does not attract more attention than men’s. This can be seen as an
equality issue as women don’t get paid and don’t have as much in the spotlight as
the men do. Timings of events of popular sports within the UK is a significantly
important factor. This is because most sporting events will take place when most
people are free. For example most football game will take place on the weekend
because that’s when people have their days off and be able to watch it within their
free time. Another example will be that popular sporting event most likely will take
place in the evening because people will not be doing much in the evening. This can
be seen as a promotion tactic because the more people that Tune in to watch the
sport, the more funding and more popularity the sport will gain. In some ways sport
can be seen to educate the public. There are many ways that this can be done but 2
important ways are influencing peoples minds and making them become a better
person within society. An example of this would be a popular footballer promoting
that racism or inequality is not tolerated and will not be allowed within football.
People within society will look up to these footballers as role models and it could
have an impact on the people who may see racism and inequality is a good thing
when it is definitely not. This could change their views and make them have a
positive impact on the person. The second way is making people within society more
honest. This can be seen in football when a foul is given that wasn’t meant to be
given and the player telling the referee that it was not meant to be a foul. This can be
seen to show morality honesty and respect and people within human nature will copy
this. This will make society better and and more honest place. Big sports promoting
niche sport can have a positive impact on both. If they were to come up with a
partnership and promote each other or in exchange for money for the biggest sport
promoting the smallest sport. It can be seen as a positive impact. For example if
football was to promote a sport like dodgeball which hasn’t got many players that like
it or enjoy the sport, football because it’s so big and has so much demand and fans it
can bring in new people who maybe want to try out a new sport. This indefinitely will
give dodgeball more funding and more availability to the public.
In my opinion,. I think these changes are all positive and I can’t really see the
negative impact of in them. This is because it makes sport a better place and they
more nicer place to be and want to be able to do it. These changes makes it
available for me to watch it play it and find out about new sports that I may enjoy.
The positive impacts of the media can be as follows. It can have a positive impact on
the spectator aswell as the player. This is because it creates a positive role model for
the fans and it creates a special bond with the players and the spectators. They act
in a professional manner because they have a big number of people watching them
and don’t want to present a bad image upon themselves. It can also encourage
people to take up sport in their free time. For example people might like to play
football after watching the world cup or a big competition and see the passion and
love for the sort and want to recreate it within themselves. Another positive aspect
might be that television coverage pays well and the players get some of that money
which increase the ir playing levels as it gives them an incentive to play better in
order to get the money in which they desire.
The negative Impacts of sport are as followed. High profile sports players have little
to no private life. Everything they do is public and published everywhere. This can
have a bad impact as they are under pressure all the time and the pressure can build
up and they could do something that puts them in a bad spotlight and in some cases
it can be what they are known for. Also if the pressure becomes too much, they can
have on field bad behaviour too. This can result in swearing or bad actions towards
referee or unsporting behaviour nor violent conduct.. The media is very good in
detailing the bad things about them more then the positive things Inequality of
coverage can be a problem too. This is because they will not cover minority sports
like dodgeball or hockey. This could become a problem as fans of them minority
sports might get upset at the fact their sports are not getting shown on mainstream
media, which could give the media a bad light .
Sport has become a global product as it generates lots of money and can become a
business opportunity for some. Technology improvements in sport can be beneficial
as it gives the people who are watching at home the best quality coverage.Over the
last few years, foreign investment has become a big factor within football and other
sports in general.this is because wealthy countries see football and other sports as a
business opportunity and I wait to make money. An example of this would be China
and Saudi Arabia investing in football a lot over the last ten years. The use of brands
in sportis a big factor within sport becoming a global product as brands used within
the sport can grow.for example Nike and Adidas are mainly known for their football
boots And kit sponsors within football and other sports. Some performers like
Cristiano Ronaldo have become rich celebrities of the products he endorses and the
clothing brand line he has.he has become rich like this and has made a lot of money
from this as he is a respected role model within the footballing community and
people would love to be just like him. This is why you see young kids buying his
products, for example his football boots or club shirt with his name on the back.
Tournaments like the World Cup can be beneficial and make sport a global product
as it generates money for the winner. The winner will gain a lot of attention as it will
be all over the media and news.
The impact on sport as a global product can have the positive impact and a negative
impact.for example, Using Ronaldo as a global product can benefit both the brand he
is representing and football. This is because he is seenas a global hero in some
peoples eyes and lots of people love to watch him. This has a positive impact on
both the brand and football because he makes them both money. In other
words,Cristiano Ronaldo is a walking price tag. His annual earnings come out as a
staggering £93 million a year. More recently however he is getting paid £173 million
a yeah by his new club alone. There isn’t many negative impact but there can be
some as follows. Environmental costs can become a impact as Costs brands and
companies substantial amounts through travelling and fuel costs. Competitors can
lose sight and passion for the sport through the idolisation of the money factor within
sport nowadays. In other words, some competitors only want to play sport for the
money side of it not for the passion.
