Ans. The Maharaja banned hunting in his state selectively. No one except him was allowed to hunt the
tigers thereby, ensuring that he was able to work on his target of killing hundred tigers to prove the
state astrologer wrong and to live long.
2. Who spread the rumour of the fabled speaking ten-day-old infant, the future Tiger King?
Ans. In a monarchy, the king is the most powerful person. It is possible he or his loyal courtiers would
have spread the rumour about the vocal ten-day-old infant in order to create an aura of wonder around
the king.
4. What was wrong in the Tiger King’s logic of Killing all tigers? Validate.
Ans. The Tiger King vowed to kill a hundred tigers because the chief astrologer asked him to be careful of
the hundredth tiger as it would bring the king his fall. The flaw in the logic was that the Tiger King only
calculated all the living tigers in his count. He didn’t count the wooden toy tigers which would eventually
prove to be fatal.
5. Do you think an author who several instances of satire in a story faces the risk of being too cynical?
Explain.
Ans. Satire is meant to illuminate an issue. So, if an author uses several instances of satire in a story, it
reinforces the message. As in 'The Tiger King' the instances of satire are numerous but the writer, Kalki,
does not appear to be cynical. In fact, these instances lend a seriousness to the story.
6. What irresponsibility can be spotted in the Tiger King's handling of the British high- ranking officer?
Rationalize.
Ans. The crown prince Jung Jung Bahadur was brought up in an English manner with an English nanny
and milk from an English cow. So, he should have known that the wife of the British high-ranking officer
was not going to return the diamonds choosing one or two for herself yet, he sent the whole lot to her.
This is the inconsistency in the Tiger King's handling of the British high-ranking officer.
Ans. No, Pratibandapuram did not have free speech. The state astrologer who warned the Tiger King
about killing hundred tigers spoke with fear and hesitance. No one told the Maharajathat the hundredth
tiger was only shocked and bed him out of the King's sight
Ans. When the Tiger King had killed seventy tigers, he faced a problem of tiger scarcity
Praubandapuram did not have more tigers left for him to kill He then decided to get married to a
suitable girl from another kingdom which had a healthy tiger population. This would ensure his access to
a steady supply of tigers to kill
9.Why was the tiger scarcity described as unforeseen? You may begin your answer like this:
After shooting seventy tigers in ten years, the Tiger king ran out of tigers to kill......
Ans. After shooting seventy tigers in ten years, the Tiger King ran out of tigers to kill. This was an
unforeseen situation since no one had ever thought that this would be a problem for the king.
10. The Maharaja justified his actions based on the maxim: 'You may kill even a cow in self- defence, so
there would be no objection to killing tigers in self-defence. Do you think it is right to justify our actions
in this way? Elaborate.
Ans. No, it is not right. There is a flaw in the maharaja's logic. He would have protected himself if he was
attacked by a tiger and killed it That would be self defence and spontaneous But he actively sought out
tigers to kill in case the tiger is the cause of his death. That is a premediated killing
11. Knowing too much of your future is never a good thing. In light of this quote, examine how knowing
the future paved way for the king's end. [Ans. The Tiger King's whole life was shaped by the prophecy
made when he was just ten days old. He tried a lot to avoid that prophecy, but couldn't. So, knowing too
much of the future wasn't good at all The Tiger King would have led a different life if he not been
obsessed with hunting tigers
12.. When he was only ten days old, a prediction Was made about the future of the tiger king. What was
ironic about it?.
Ans The prediction that was made when the crown prince Jung Jung Bahadur was ten days old was that
he would die one day. The irony was that this was not a prediction as everyone who Was born had to
die. This is what the infant tiger king said when he heard the prediction.
