Lesson Plan in General Mathematics 11

The lesson plan is for a General Mathematics 11 class on November 5th from 10-11 AM. The objectives are for students to understand key concepts of functions and be able to construct mathematical models using functions, specifically performing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of functions. The lesson will introduce operations on functions, covering addition and subtraction of polynomials. Students will practice adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing polynomials according to the rules for exponent operations.

3. †25 + †5= Answer: 30
4. †4 - † 6= Answer: -2
5. †25 - -55= Answer: +80
6. 3 x -2

C. LESSON PROPER
Introduce the lesson about "OPERATIONS ON FUNCTIONS"
RULE: ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION OF POLYNOMIALS

• To add two polynomials, write the sum and simplify by combining like terms.

To subtract an expression from another expression, add it's negative. That is,

a - b= a + (-b)

Example #1:
(3x + 4) + (7x – 8) =?
= (3x+7x) + (4 - 8)
= 10x-4

Example #2:
(5x+4) - (7+2) =?
= (5x+4) + (-7x - 2)
= (5x - 7x) + (4 - 2)
= -2x+2

RULE: MULTIPLICATION OF POLYNOMIALS

• When multiplying monomials, you will often use the following Laws of Exponent.
1. Product Rule for Exponents: x " . x" = x "/"
To multiply powers having the same base, keep the base and add the exponents.
2. Power Rule for Exponents: (x ")" = x n
To find the power of a power of a base, keep the base and multiply the exponent.
3. Power of a Product Rule: (xy) "= x'y"
To find the power of a product, find the power of each factor and then multiply the resulting
powers.
