1 Prerequisites

• cobas e 411 analyzer

• DVD-RAM drive
• DVD or CD or USB flash drive with the actual reference files, version 4.13 or high-
er.

2 Download of Reference Data

• Connect to the Roche network with Pulse Secure

• Go to the GRIPS Online homepage at https://grips.dia.roche.com/home
• Navigate to: Instrument / Reagent Line > Immunology > Systems > El-
ecsys/cobas e > cobas e 411 > Document type: Application Data

● Choose the latest version of reference file named Refer_update_4.xx.zip (xx

referring to the latest version) by clicking on the + next to the pdf-logo and
download the zip-file to a folder on your Roche computer.

3 Preparation of Reference Data CD or DVD or USB flash drive

3.1 USB flash drive

● Ensure that a USB flash drive is inserted in your Roche computer. Format the
USB flash drive before use to make sure it’s free of malicious software.
● Open the folder Refer_update_4.xx.zip on your computer and double click
Refer update 4.xx.iso.

● Select and right click on the cobas e 411 folder that opens, then select Send
to your USB flash drive location. (If you do not see the Send to option in the
menu, ensure that the e 411 folder has the check box selected, then right click
on the folder)

● Check to ensure the files in the image below were copied to your USB flash
drive.

3.2 CD/DVD

● Ensure that a DVD burner is connected to your Roche computer with a

CD/recordable DVD.
● Double click Refer update 4.xx.iso.

● Select and right click on the cobas e 411 folder, then Select Send to and your
DVD drive location. (If you do not see the Send to option in the menu, ensure
that the e 411 folder has the check box selected, then right click on the folder)

● Check to ensure the files in the image below were copied to your CD/DVD.

4 Reference file update

The Reference files are specific for each laboratory. For this reason, the unit settings of the
fourth unit must be checked before the update is performed.

Hint: Please note the settings in Alarm Setting screen and set then again after reading the
reference data.

Open the Utility-Maintenance Check screen.

Select the Maintenance Item Special Unit Setting
and confirm with Select.

This confirmation screen is indicated, if

1. System is not in Stand-by mode and/or
2. Host Communication is ON

Please set the necessary conditions and select the

Special Unit Setting again. See the previous step.

This confirmation screen is a caution that after the

changes and the save, the analyzer automatically
performs a system restart.

Please confirm with Continue.

The Special Unit Setting screen indicates the use of

the 3rd unit (column Unit3). The customer should
determine which 3rd unit they will use.

Caution: The software update may change this set-

ting. Please note the current settings and change
them back if necessary, to the original settings,
after the software update is complete.
The Alarm Setting indicates the use of the Barcode
Read Error Alarm handling.

Insert the reference update CD/DVD into the DVD-RAM drive or the USB flash drive with the
reference files in the USB Port named “Service”.

Open the Utility-System-Storage Utility screen.

Select the Read Reference Data - External button
and confirm with Execute.

Select the backup folder (here: backup-2016-01-

13-12-00) and confirm with OK.

After the update of the reference files, the analyzer

automatically performs a system restart.

Remove the CD/DVD from the DVD-RAM drive or the USB flash drive from the USB port.
Please set the 3rd Unit Setting and the Alarm Setting like the first steps of this chapter.

5 Verification Steps

● Select the Help icon on the lower left corner of the cobas e 411 screen.
● Select System Information. You may need to expand the “Publication Infor-
mation” folder by clicking on the + sign, to see the System Information.
● Verify the correct version of Reference Data has been installed.

● Remember to logoff as BMSERV.
