Zero Conditional

Complete the following situations whose results are always true.

1. The river freezes (freeze) if it is (be) very cold.

2. If we sing (sing) very loudly, neighbours aren’t (not/be) happy.

3. I cycle (cycle) to work if the weather is (be) fine.

4. My flatmate cleans (clean) well if she cleans (clean) the house.

5. Everybody is (be) grumpy if it rains (rain) a lot.

6. If you press (press) that button, the light comes (come) on.

7. It is (be) easier to sleep if you aren’t (not/be) stressed.

8. The teacher gets (get) angry if we don’t work (not/work) hard.

9. If I go (go) on a boat, I always feel (feel) sick.

First Conditional
Complete the following possible situations with their probable result.

4. If he comes (come), I will be (be) surprised.

Second Conditional
Complete the following imaginary situations.

1. She would pass (pass) the exams if she studied (study) more.
2. If we weren’t (not/be) friends, I would be (be) angry with you.
3. If I had (have) enough money, I would buy (buy) a big house.
4. If she weren’t (not/be) always so late, she would be (be) promoted.
5. They would go (go) to Spain on holiday if they liked (like) hot weather.

6. He’s not handsome because his nose is big.


He would be handsome if his nose weren’t big.
7. I don’t have a car so I can’t travel to the city.
If I had a car, I would travel to the city.
8. I can’t call him because I don’t have his number.
I would call him if I had his number.
9. His parents give him a lot of money so he goes out so much.
If his parents didn’t give him a lot of money, he wouldn’t go out so much.
10. She isn’t slim so the dress doesn’t fit her.
If she were slim, the dress would fit her.
11. He can tell your boyfriend about that because he knows everything.
He wouldn’t tell your boyfriend about that if he didn’t know anything.
12. I can’t go around the world because I’m not rich.
I would go around the world if I were rich.
13. She is not a Harry Potter character so she can’t be Hermione Granger.
If she were a Harry Potter character, she would be Hermione Granger.
14. These walls are thinner so I can hear my neighbours.
If the walls weren’t thinner, I wouldn’t hear my neighbours.
15. Antonio is sick so he can’t go to the cinema.
If Antonio weren’t sick, he would go to the cinema.
Third Conditional
Complete the following imaginary situations in the past.

1. If she had gone (go) to university, she would have studied (study) French.
2. I would have called (call) you if I hadn’t forgotten (not/forget) my phone.
3. If we hadn’t gone (not/go) to the party, we wouldn’t have met (not/meet) them.
4. If he hadn’t taken (not/take) the job, he would have gone (go) travelling.
5. We would have come (come) if we had been (be) invited.
6. She wouldn’t have done (not/do) it if she had known (know) you were ill.
7. He would have been (be) on time if he left (leave) earlier.

8. I walked home from the disco because my friend was too drunk to drive.
If my friend hadn’t been too drunk to drive, I wouldn’t have walked home from the disco.
9. Sara didn't go to the store because she thought it was close.
Sara would have gone to the store if she hadn’t thought it was close.
10. I ate the yoghurt in the fridge, so my little sister got angry.
If I hadn’t eaten the yogurt in the fridge, my little sister wouldn’t have gotten angry.
11. My cousins didn’t pass their driving test, so my uncle didn’t buy them a car.
If my cousins had passed their driving test, my uncle would have bought them a car.
12. I bought her a ring, but I didn’t know she has a lover.
If I had known she has a lover, I wouldn’t have bought her a ring.
13. Marisol didn’t ask her doubts, so Mr. Davis didn’t help her.
If Marisol had asked her doubts, Mr. Davis would have helped her.
14. I didn’t know you were coming, so I didn’t wait for you.
If I had known you were coming, I would have waited for you.
15. I didn't know this documentary was important for our exam, so I didn't watch it.
If I had known this documentary was important for our exam, I would have watched it.
I would have watched the documentary if I had known it was important for our exam.
