The Maintenance Manual presents the types of vendor items
and instruments without indicating their series and
modifications, which are stated in the Certificates of
these items and instruments.
The revisions of the Maintenance Manual should be
performed at the operating agency by replacement, removal
of old sheets or introduction of new sheets (which is
stipulated by the Service Bulletins). All revisions
should be duly registered in the "Record of Revisions" of
the document being revised (document section).
Since 2007 the helicopters receive a sixteen-unit
alphanumerical code (e.g. «171Sh00604105308U»).
In the operation documentation only the last five
digits/letters are used to identify the helicopter rather
the complete serial number (e.g. «5308U»).

MAINTENANCE MANUAL
For heating the cargo compartment, the hot air is
supplied from the distributor into right heating duct
(7) and then into left heating duct (11) along the
connecting air duct (9) routed under the compartment
floor.
Into the flight compartment, the air is supplied from
the "distributor along air ducts (6), (4), (28), etc.
Heating ducts (7) and (11) are made of duralumin. Laid
between the ducts and the fuselage inner skin are heat-
insulation gaskets. To ensure outlet of hot air, holes
are made in the ducts (arrangement and sizes of holes
provide for a uniform outlet of air over the entire
length of the cargo compartment). The branch pipe for
heating the drain tank valve is brought out of the left
duct in area of frames Nos 3 and 4.
Air duct (4) connecting distributor (5) with the flight
compartment is laid under the heater, then, through the
hole in the fuselage right side runs to under the floor
of the cargo and flight compartments-and approaches air
duct branch pipe (23).
Here the air duct is branched out and comes close to the
two branch pipes having the shutters for outlet of hot
air near the foot control pedals of both pilots. Branch
pipes (21) and (19) for blowing the lower glass panels of
the flight compartment are also brought out of the air
duct.
At the flight compartment sides, the air duct conies
out from under the floor and terminates in branch pipes
(25) and (18) to which hoses (14), (17), (24) and (26)
supplying air blowing the windshield and sliding
blisters are connected.

MAINTENANCE MANUAL
The heater may operate in the automatic, manual and in
the ventilation modes.
When the beater operates in the automatic mode, the
air temperature is kept constant depending on the
position of the temperature setter.
The manual control provides for operation of the
beater at maximum (full) and median modes of heating
efficiency. The recirculation mode is used to quicken
heating of compartments in winter, with air tapped
from the helicopter cargo compartment.
Operation of the system in the ventilation mode
ensures coding of the heater and ventilation of the
helicopter compartments (through the ducts) in summer.
Installed in the circuit of the heater is a relay hich
opens the heater power supply circuit in case of a
fire in the KO-50 heater compartment as well as in
case of failure of one of rectifiers. The schematic
circuit diagram of the heater (See Wiring Diagram

MAINTENANCE MANUAL
The seat may be displaced in the vertical direction
along the guides in the range of 160 mm and fixed in
five various positions by retainers (21), which enter
the boles in the guides under the action of spring
(22). To displace the seat, it is necessary to turn
handle (27), arranged behind the seat, to the left,
rearward.
The seat is displaced up under the action of spring
(13) and down under the pilot's mass.
The tilting angle of the seat frame (back) is
adjusted by shifting guides (14) in brackets (19) in
the longitudinal direction (for this purpose, there
are two holes in each bracket and by changing the
length of rear struts.
When the guides are set to the front position and the
length of rear struts is changed, the back tilting
angle may be equal to 21 or 25°, and when the seat is
set to the rear position, the angle of tilting may be
equal to 19 or 23°. Change of the length of struts is
effected by means of mechanisms controlled by handles
installed on the seat pans: on the pilot's seat,
behind the seat, to the left, on the co-pilot's seat,
be hind the seat, to the left, un the co-pilot's
seat, in front of the seat, to the right. The
mechanism of tilting the seat frame as arranged in
tube (16) of each strut. It consists of the following
parts: body (9) of the ball-type lock, balls (10)
entering the circular recesses on the inner surface
of the strut, with the seat fixed in one of the
positions, core (6) with lever (5) secured on it,
spring (12) located between the end faces of the lock
body and the core, cable (29) with handle, fasteners.

Page 2
March 31/11
Mi-171SH
MAINTENANCE MANUAL
When the handle is displaced up, pull-up cable (29)
shifts lever (5) and core (6) connected with it down.
During movement of the core balls (10) come out of
the strut circular recess unlocking the ball-type
lock. Simultaneously spring (12) of the lock is
compressed. With the lock being unlocked, the force
is applied to the seat back, then this force is
transmitted to eye (4) and to body (9) of the lock.
The body begins to move down, compressing spring (17)
of the strut and shortening the strut.
When the balls occupy the position against the
circular recess in the strut, the core locks the
balls in the recess under the action of spring (12),
fixing the respective tilt of the seat frame.
The back movement of the seat frame towards the
initial setting angle and restoration of the strut
initial length are effected due to the force of
spring (17) and due to relieving the force of the
seat back. In this case, the cable handle should be
pressed down in order to unlock the ball-type look.
Fixation of the seat frame in the initial position is
similar to the procedure described above.
To ensure a convenient access to the equipment
arranged on the racks, the seat may be easily removed
by taking out pins (20).
The seats are provided with safety harness straps:
waist straps (12, left) (See fig. 2) and (22, right)
and shoulder straps (2, upper) and (10, lower, left)
and (23, lower, right).
Attached to the cover plates on the outer side of the
seat back is clamp (1) for fastening the shoulder
straps and two lock eyes for fastening left and right
waist straps. The straps are connected each to other

by means of lock (17) whose construction makes it
possible to quickly open it, if required.
The lock consists of base (4), locking shackle (9),
hook (7), spring (6), clamp (8), cover (5) and
fasteners.
To open the lock, it is necessary to sharply pull
handle (19), put intothe pocket, sewn to strap (22)
and corset (21) on the right waist strap. In this
case, the cable whose ends are terminated in ball
(18) is shifted together with locking shackle (9).
Spring (6) is compressed, book (7) turns around its
axis and disengages from the main buckle of left
waist strap (14) releasing L-shaped buckles (15) and
(16) of the shoulder straps.
The safety harness straps are provided with buckles
(3), (13) and (20) by means of which the pilot may
change the length of straps, selecting the size
individually.
Besides, on the seat, in the front lower section of
the pan, a ring for connection of the spring book of
the parachute line and a soft back made of foam
plastics covered with vinyl artificial leather of
light brown colour are secured.
For decoration the pilots seats have covers made
of an upholstery fabric.
First of all for installation it is necessary to put
the cover on the back seat, thread the shoulder
straps through the cover cutout and insert the handle
adjusting slope of the seat back into the hole
arranged in the cover side, after having uncoupled
rubber straps, put the cover on the seat on the front
side and uncrumple it on the seat. Removal of covers
is performed in the reverse order.

2.2 Flight Engineer's Seat
The flight engineer's seat is installed in the area
of the door opening to the flight compartment between
frames Nos 4H and 5H. The seat (See Fig. 3) is of a
frame-shaped riveted, construction. It is suspended from
the right side wall of the rack on two brackets (4). Bottom
(5) of the seat frame is made of caprone sewn along the
entire length with a stitch of 40 mm. On one side, the
bottom is rig idly secured to the seat and, on the other
side, to the spring-loaded shaft. When the parachute pack
is placed on the seat, its lower portion is held by the
frame and the bottom which sags since the part of the
bottom is wound on the shaft.
In the working position the seat additionally rests
on bracket (6) and is locked by ball-type retainers
(7), in the open position, the seat is held by
springs (J) mounted in the seat hinge brackets.
The seat is provided with safety harness straps of
waist type with a lock whose construction makes it
possible to quickly unfasten the straps in case of
emergency escape from the helicopter. The strap lock
consists of body (14), clasp bar (13), nut (12) and
spring (20).
Installed into the lock body is a clasp bar in which
one end of cable (17) is secured and the other end is
secured in the latch. Between the clasp bar and the
nut there is a spring which returns the clasp bar to
the initial position after slackening the cable. The
seat for fixation of spring book (19) is provided in
the lock body.
To disconnect the strap, it is necessary to raise
latch (10) which pulls the cable with clasp bar. The
clasp bar

moves and releases the spring hook.
Not lowering the latch, disengage strap buckle (16)
and plate (21). To fasten strap (1), raise the latch,
engage the buckle and the plate, insert the spring
book and lower the latch.
The harness strap is used as a safety belt during
loading/unloading operations with the helicopter jib
crane. On the belt there is locator-pin (9) which is
inserted into the belt lock only in operation with
the helicopter jib crane. When the flight engineer
takes the seat, it is necessary to put locator-pin
(9) into the pocket on the safety belt.
The harness straps are attached to the brackets
installed in the passage on the rack walls by means
of spring books (15) and (19).

handle (1) installed on right heating duct (2)
between frames Nos 5 and 6.
When the handle is set in position "to atmosphere"
the hot air from the KO-50 used for heating the cargo
compartment goes out to the atmosphere and heating of
the cargo compartment is stopped. During this
procedure the volume of the air going out to
atmosphere can be adjusted to ensure the necessary
temperature in the cargo compartment.
In other cases the handle should be set in position
into cargo compartment.

FIRE PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - GENERAL
The fire protection equipment is intended for detection,
warning and extinguishing of fire in the compartments
being protected.
The fire protection equipment of the helicopter consists
of the fire detection system and the fire extinguishing
system.
Electrical fire detection system ССП-ФК is used on the
helicopter for detection of-fire and naming of the crew
on fire hazard.
Installed on the helicopter are the three sets of the
ССП-ФК equipment which protect all the fuselage
compartments from fire: TB3-117BM LH engine compartment,
TB3-117BM RH engine compartment, main gearbox compartment
and compartment of the service fuel tank; compartment of
auxiliary power unit АИ-9В; compartment of kerosene
heater KO-50.
The ССП-ФК system also ensures automatic switching-on of
the fire extinguishing equipment of those compartment
from which the fire signal is received.
The fire extinguishing system ensures storage of fire
extinguishant and its distribution in the helicopter
compartments being protected.
The stationary fire extinguishing system comprises two
bottles of type 7БШ with fire extinguishant, which are
discharged in two shots, pipelines, sprayers and
equipment for automatic and manual supply of fire
extinguishant into each zone being on fire.
Two hand portable fire extinguishers OPl-2-20-30 are
installed in the cargo compartment of the helicopter, on
the partition wall along frame No. 5H, at the sliding
door opening on the left hand side in the cockpit
(frames No 4).
The fire extinguishers OP1-2-20-30 are secured on special
brackets with the aid of coupling bands (See Fig. 1). The
fire extinguishers are quick-removable ones.

1 GENERAL INFORMATION
Fire detection system ССП-ФК ensures:
detection f fire in the helicopter compartments being
protected;
naming of the crew on the fire by means of the light
indication system;
delivery of additional naming signals to voice information
equipment АЛМАЗ-УПМ and automatic flight data recorder
equipment БУР-1-2;
automatic switching-on of the main fire extinguisher
(bottle) discharge (See Pig. 1) to the zone from which the
fire signal is received;
indication of operation of the fire extinguishing
equipment;
checking serviceability of the system and its readiness
for operation.
The ССП-ФК system consists of actuating unit ССП-ФК-БИ
and six groups of fire detectors connected to the unit
(three series-connected fire detectors in each group).
The fire detection system is a six channel one, depending
on the number of fire detector groups.
The principle of operation of the system is based on
the use of the thermal electromotive force originated
in the thermal battery' of the detector in the sharp
rise of the temperature in the compartment to be
checked.
When the rate of the temperature increase in the
compartment is not lower than the specified value, the
thermal electromotive force of the fire detectors reaches
the value sufficient for operation of the actuating unit,

which delivers a signal (electrical system voltage) into
the fire protection system.
Mounted on the helicopter are three sets of the ССП-ФК
equipment and fourteen groups of fire detectors:
four groups of fire detectors in the compartment of the
main gearbox and service fuel tank;
three groups of fire detectors in each compartment of
LH and RH engines TB3-117BM;
two groups of fire detectors in the compartment of
auxiliary power unit АИ-9В and in the compartment of
kerosene heater KO-50.
Besides, the fire detection system is equipped with the
protection, control, switching, warning and check
equipment.
The circuit breakers are installed on the right circuit
breaker panel of the pilots' electric control board
under a common placard reading FIRE EXTINGUISHING
SYSTEM.
The control, warning and check equipment is mounted on
the middle panel of the electric control board with the
placard reading: FIRE EXTINGUISHING SYS-TEK and
DETECTOR (IHDIGATOR) CHECK.
2 DESCRIPTION
2.1 Fire Detection System
As to the principle of operation, the fire detection
system is essentially a multicircuit electric device
having some independent groups of fire detectors
delivering signals to the actuating units in each
helicopter compartment being checked.
In the actuating unit, each group of fire detectors
is connected to its signal conversion unit (combined
unit), forming a fully independent sensitive circuit.
026.10.00
Page 2
March 31/11
Mi-171SH
MAINTENANCE MANUAL
This ensures high reliability of the system since, in
case of failure of any group of fire detectors, the
serviceability of the other groups is preserved.
The system is capable to detect the fire with the aid
of one circuit of sensitive elements.
2.1.1 Fire Detector
Fire detector (See Fig. 1) is a sensitive element
of the fire detection system.
Fire detector (23) is practically a thermal battery
assembled of three series-connected thermal couples
(26) made of chromium-nickel and alumel alloy. The
working (Ion-inertia) junctions of electrodes have
considerably less sizes than the non-working
(inertia) junctions. Owing to the cutouts in the
cap of the fire detector the working junctions are
open, not protected with insulation from the
environment of the compartment being checked.
The fire detector is coupled with receptacle СОП-
2И-РМ (22) and secured with union nut (28). The
receptacle serves for attachment of the fire
detector to bracket (20) at the place of
installation and connection to the circuit.
Operation of the fire detector consists in quick
heating of the media surrounding the fire detector,
whose low-inertia junctions, having the small mass,
are heated considerably quicker than the inertia
ones.
Due to the difference in heating temperatures of
the working and non-working junctions the thermal
electromotive force appears on the output pins of
the detector.
Installed on the helicopter are forty-two tire
detectors integrated into fourteen groups.

The arrangement diagram of the fire detectors is
presented in Figure 1.
2.1.2 Actuating Unit ССП-ФК-БИ
Structurally the actuating unit consists of six
actuating units each of which is connected to its
group of fire detectors.
In the actuating unit the signal o£ the tire
detector is amplified and delivered to the
threshold device. If the signal value exceeds the
level of operation of the threshold device, the
latter actuates and through the relay power
amplifier delivers a voltage of the electrical
system to the output of the circuit.
The actuating unit is supplied from the storage bus
through the FIRE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM. FIRE WARNING

breaker.
The actuating units are installed in the flight
compartment on the right rack.
2.2 Fire Warning System
2.2.1 Light Indication System
The fire light indication system presents five
light annunciators with red light filters:
two light annunciators LEFT ENG FIRE and RIGHT
ENG FIRE warn on the fire in the compartments of
the BH and LH engines, respectively;
light annunciator KO-50 FIRE warns on the fire
in the compartment of heater KO-50;
light annunciator APU MAIN GEARBOX, FIRE warns
on the fire in the compartments of the main
gearbox, service fuel tank and auxiliary power
unit АИ-9В.

The light annunciators are installed on the middle
panel of the pilots' electric control board.
To quickly attract the crew members' attention, the
light annunciators are connected to the emergency
warning system which ensures the operation of light
annunciators in the "flashing" mode with transition
to the red central signal light installed on the
left pilots' instrument board.
2.2.2 Additional Warning Signals
The fire warning system simultaneously with the
supply of power to the light annunciators ensures
delivery of additional warning signals over the
parallel circuits:
to the input of unit АЛМАЗ-УПМ from the set of
voice Information equipment АЛМАЗ-УПМ Depending on
the place of fire the signal is fed to one of the
four channels of equipment "АЛМАЗ-УПМ ", which is
started and ensures delivery of the respective
voice message into the headset of the pilot.
The message texts are put beforehand into equipment
"АЛМАЗ-УПМ" and correspond to the inscriptions on
the light annunciators: LEFT ENG CMPT FIRE, RIGHT
ENG CMPT FIRE, GEARBOX CMPT FIRE, HEATER CMPT FIRE.
The voice message is delivered into the headset of
the pilot in the circular mode and is repeated with
a frequency: two messages for 12 s. Simultaneously
the same message is transmitted automatically to
the ground flight control centre through the
helicopter command VHP radio set;
to the input of unit БСПИ-4-2 from the set of
automatic flight data recorder system БУР-1-2.

MAINTENANCE MANUAL
The sensitive elements of the recorder unit of
equipment БУР-1-2 automatically register the
information on the fire as a function of time.
2.3 Operation of Fire Extinguishing Equipment
Simultaneously with delivery of signals warning on
the fire, the fire warning system ensures automatic
switching-on of the main fire extinguisher discharge
into the zone being on fire and light indication on
operation of fire extinguishers.
The light indication system presents eight light
annunciators with yellow light filters - four light
annunciators MAIN PIREX DISCH (1 ОЧЕРЕДЬ) and four
light annunciators ALTN FIREX DISCH (2 ОЧЕРЕДЬ)
arranged on the indication board on the middle panel
of the pilots' electric control board in pairs under
the fire light annunciator of each compartment being
protected.
Such arrangement of light annunciators on the board
allows the crew members to quickly receive the
required information both on the place where fire is
detected and automatic and manual discharge of fire
extinguishers as well as to check operation of the
automatiс fire extinguishing system and lets the
crew members check their actions on extinguishing of
fire.
2.4 Checking Serviceability of Fire Warning System
The fire warning circuit provides for checking
serviceability of the system and its readiness for
operation.
Checking serviceability of the fire warning system
consists in checking serviceability of light
annunciators lamps and fire detectors.

2.4.1 Checking Serviceability of Lamps and Their Supply
Circuits
The fire warning system is used for checking
serviceability of light annunciator lamps and their
circuits. When the circuit breaker of the system
located on the right circuit breaker panel and the
LAMP TEST switch are switched on, four light an-
nunciators warning on fire on the central control
panel and eight UAIN FIREX DISCH and ALTN FIREX
DISCH light annunciators arranged on the middle
panel of the pilots' electric control board should
light up.
The lamp of the FIRE DETECTOR CHECK light
annunciator is checked by setting the FIRE FIGHTING
- FIRE DETECTOR CHECK (ОГНЕТУШЕНИЕ - КОНТРОЛЬ
ДАТЧИКОВ) switch arranged on the middle panel of
the electric control board to the FIRE DETECTOR
CHECK position.
2.4.2 Checking Serviceability of Fire Detectors and Their
Supply Circuits
Checking of fire detectors and their circuits is
effected from the FIRE DETECTOR CHECK board on the
middle panel of the electric control board after
setting the FIRE FIGHTING - FIRE DETECTOR CHECK
switch to the FIRE DETECTOR CHECK position. In this
case, the FIRE DETECTOR CHECK light annunciator
with a red light filter illuminates on the check
board, which testifies to readiness of check
circuits for operation.
The check system operates from storage battery bus
2K through the FIRE EXTIN- GUISHING SYSTEM. FIRE

The operation of the system in case of fire in any
compartment being protected is similar to that
described above.
The APU MAIN GEARBOX, FIRE light annunciator is
common for the compartments of the main gearbox,
service fuel tank and auxiliary power unit АИ-9В. It
lights up in case of fire in any of these
compartments.
The fire extinguishant is supplied into the three
compartments simultaneously.
If the fire occurs in the compartment of heater KO-
50, the signal is supplied to the winding of relay
(101/9) from actuating unit ССП-ФК-БИ (106/9). The
relay actuates and forms, besides the fire warning
and extinguishing circuits similar to those described
above, an additional circuit, providing for
switching-on of heater KO-50:
storage battery bus, FIRE WARNING circuit breaker
(28/9), contacts 11-12 of relay (101/9), contacts
4-5 of relay (29/3), contacts 4-5 of relay (30/3),
contacts 7-8 of relay (93/9), control winding of
relay (7/16) in the heater KO-50 power supply
circuit, "frame".
Relay (7/16) actuates and opens the KO-50 heater
power supply circuit.
In case of fire in the compartments of the main
gearbox and auxiliary power unit АИ-9В relay (73/9)
actuates and forms an additional circuit:
storage battery bus, FIRE WARNING circuit breaker
(28/9), contacts 11-12 of relay (73/9), control
winding of relay (20A) of the system of auxiliary
power unit АИ-9В, "frame".

For example, when setting the selector switch to the
second channel position (terminal 4), the power,
simulating the thermal electromotive force it he
circuit of fire detectors of the given channel,
through terminal 2 of plug connector Ш2 of actuating
unit ССП-ФК-БИ (49/9) is supplied to the check input
of the combined unit, which operates only if the
circuit of a group of three series-connected fire
detectors ДПС (53/9, 54/9, 55/9) is serviceable.
The signal from the output of the combined unit
through pin (4) of plug connector Ш4 of actuating
unit ССП-ДК-БИ (49/9) cuts in relay (35/9) which
actuates and through closed contacts 11-12 and
terminals 49-54 of unit БАП-1 (4/14) supplies the
power to lamp (38/9) of the LEFT ENG PIKE and TKC-2
light annunciators (7/14). Lighting of these light
annunciators testifies to serviceability of the group
of the LH engine fire detectors indicated above.
Simultaneously the actuating relays of other com-
partments having the groups of fire detectors
connected to the second check channel operate.
Relay (35/9) actuates according to the circuit:
storage battery bus, fuse (115/9), contacts 14-15 of
relay (26/9), contacts 2-3 of relay (35/9), control
winding of relay (26/9) and "frame", relay (26/9)
gets self locked.
When FIRE DETECTOR CHECK - CHANNELS wafer switch
(18/9) is set to the OFF position, relay (26/9) gets
unlocked.
Operation of the check circuit, with FIRE DETECTOR
CHECK - CHANNELS selector snitch (18/9) being in
other positions, is mainly similar;
when selector switch (18/9) is placed in the
CHANNEL 1 and CHANNEL 2 positions, actuating relays

(35/9, 43/9, 101/9) operate and all lamps of light
annunciators (38/9, 46/9, 74/9, 102/9) light up;
when selector switch (18/9) is set to the CHANNEL 3
position, actuating relays (35/9, 43/9) operate and
the lamp of light annunciator (74/9) lights up;
when selector switch (18/9) is placed in the
CHANNEL 4, CHANNEL 5, CHANNEL 6 positions,
actuating relay (73/9) operates and the lamp of
light annunciator (74/9) lights up.
NOTE. Bear in mind that during operation of the
actuating relays the respective signals are
delivered along all the warning circuits to
items "Алмаз УП" and БУР-1-2 and, besides,
from actuating relays (73/9 and 101/9)
additional signals are fed for switching on
auxiliary power unit АИ-9В and heater KO-50,
respectively.
After checking serviceability of fire detectors, set
FIRE FIGHTING - FIRE DE TECTOR CHECK switch (19/9) to
the FIRE FIGHTING position. In this case, the control
winding of relay (26/9) is deenergized, its contacts
14 and 17 open the circuits supplying lamps (27/9) of
the FIRE DETECTOR CHECK light annunciator and FIRE
DETECTOR CHECK - CHANNELS wafer switch (18/9), while
closed contacts 1-2, 3-5, 7-8, 10-11 prepare the
supply circuits of squibs for operation.
3.4. Changes in the electrical circuitry of the
Fighting System.
In the course of operation there were cases of false
activation of ССП-ФК Fire Detection System (FDS) due
to short-time false signals output from the combined
unit that occurred as a result of transition
processes within the power supply system, radio

interference, etc. To avoid false activation a
temporary delay of (0,6 0,15 sec) was introduced
for activation of FFS that is performed by the delay
panel of CCП-ФК Fire Detection System.
Delay panel consists of four 6П4.561.001-3 time
relays with delay time of 0,6 0,15 sec and mating
connectors. The panel is located inside the cargo
cabin on the frame 1H (pos. 121/9, 122/9, 124/9,
125/9).
This electrical circuitry with the time delay relays
works as follows:
When the combination unit of the ССП-ФК FDS
activates the voltage from the helicopter mains is
supplied through the pin 4 of the Ш4 mating
connector of the (49/9) unit to the fime relay
(121/9) contacts 2 and 4.
If after expiry of 0,6 0,15 sec time signal from the
pin 4 of the Ш4 mating connector disappeared the
relay activates and supplies the mains voltage
through the contact 5 of the time relay (129/9) to
the control winding/wiring of the (35/9) fire
fighting system relay.
In case of false activation of the combination unit,
after expiry of 0,6 0,15 sec time the signal from the
pin 4 of the Ш4 mating connector disappears and time
relay dos not activate.
The other channels work the same way.

2 DESCRIPTION
2.1 Stationary Fire Extinguishing System
2.1.1 Fire extinguishers УБШ-4-4 (fire extinguishers of
type 1-4-4).
The special aviation fire extinguisher of type УБШ
is designed for storage of fire extinguishant. It
is essentially a steel ball-type bottle rated for
an operating pressure of up to 15000 kPa (150
kgf/cm2 (2129 psi)) with an adapter, squib
explosive heads, pressure gauge and charging nut.
Mounted on the helicopter are two fire
extinguishers УБШ-4 -4 of 4 ltr in capacity each
with four squib explosive heads. Each squib head
ensures opening (discharging) of the bottle into
the respective compartment being protected.
Discharging of the fire extinguisher is effected
remotely from the electric pulse of the fire
extinguishing control system.
Bottle (1) (See 026.10.00, Fig. 1) is essentially a
steel spherical sheathing coated with glass plastic
splinter-proof braiding. Soldered into the upper
semi-sphere of the bottle is a filler neck into
which an adapter with siphon pipe (5) ensuring
better conditions for discharging the fire
extinguishant from the bottle cavity is installed.
The adapter mounts explosive heads (3), pressure
gauge (6) and charging nut. The seats for three
heads are provided on the top and two sides of the
adapter. When installing an additional adapter into
the upper seat, the number of heads may be
increased up to seven. The additional adapter (as
well as the main one) of fire extinguisher УБШ-4-4
has two squib explosive heads.

MAINTENANCE MANUAL
On the face of the main adapter, a pressure gauge
is installed, while on the back side, the nut and
screwed-in adapter are installed.
The fire extinguisher is connected with the
atmosphere by means of the screwed-in adapter
through the pipeline, which makes it possible to
discharge the fire extinguishant from he bottle
overboard in case of a sudden break of the
protective membrane.
The charging nut is designed for sealing the
charging hole after charging the fire extinguisher.
Expanded into the casing of the nut is the
protective membrane which is broken, if the
pressure in the bottle due to overheating exceeds
the value of [(20000±2000). kPa (200±20) kgf/cm2)
((2838±284)psi)] .
The bottle is filled with fire extlnguisbant
(khladon 114В2 5.640 kg (12.434 lb)) and for
ensuring the supply of this agent it is charged
with air or nitrogen grade A, 0.180 kg (0.4 lb)) to
a pressure of [(10500 to 11500) kPa (105 to 115)
kgt/cm2 (1490 to 1631 psi)] at a temperature of 15
to 20 °C.
Valve-type explosive head ЛГКц is a main shut-off
assembly of the fire extinguisher during opening of
which the fire extinguishant is discharged from the
bottle into the line of the fire extinguishing
system. Installed on the bottle the four explosive
heads ensure discharge of the fire extinguishant
into any zone being protected from fire for not
more than 1.3 s.
Opening of the explosive bead is effected with the
aid of two squibs ТП-З when an electric pulse is
applied to them automatically from the fire

detection system or manually from the respective
button on the middle panel of the electric control
board.
The explosive head consists of casing (37), collet
shackle (36), valve (40), safety pin and two
igniters (34).
In the upper portion of the casing there is an
inner thread for installation of the collet shackle
and inside the casing there is a seat against which
the valve thrusts. On the one side of the casing
there is a working pipe connection (42 for
connection of the manifold of the fire
extinguishing system, on the other side there are
two seats for installation of squibs (35). The
seats have the external thread for attachment of
squib igniters (34) to which the wires from the
electrical fire extinguishing control system are
connected. To avoid incorrect connection of squib
igniters, the union nuts of the latter and
respective manifolds of the system have the similar
colour identification rings (blue, gray, green,
black).
The safety pin serves to prevent an inadvertent
opening of the squib head and it should be
constantly present on the squib head of the charged
fire extinguisher. The safety pin is removed from
the squib head the last after installation and
connection of the fire extinguisher to the line of
the fire extinguishing system, installation of
squibs and checking the serviceability of their
electrical circuits.
The fire extinguishers are installed in the
compartment of the main gearbox, to the right,
between frames Nos 7 and 9 and secured to the

ceiling panel of the cargo compartment on round
base (8) with felt gasket, 4 mm thick, glued.
Attachment of the fire extinguisher to the base cup
is quick-disconnect with the aid of clamping ring
(2) with the shackle and coupling lock (7). The
base cup in the place of fitting to the skin of the
ceiling panel has vent holes.
The front (in the direction of flight) fire
extinguisher is the main one while the rear fire
extinguisher is the alternate one.
The bottles and their assemblies are painted with
red enamel.
2.1.2 Fire Extinguishant Supply System
The fire extinguishant supply system ensures
discharging of bottles of the fire extinguishers
into the zone being on fire.
Each zone being on fire (protected compartment) is
serviced with an individual fire extinguishant
supply system consisting of the manifold, line
pipeline and sprayers.
The manifold connects output working pipe
connections of two similar squib heads of the main
and alternate fire extinguishers to the pipeline
running to the sprayers of the respective
compartment ensuring the supply of the fire
extinguishant into the given line from any bottle.
Manifold assembly (4) of the system consists of
four manifolds made of steel pipes, 18 mm (8.5 l)in
dia, and provided with nipples and union nuts. The
pipelines supplying the fire extinguishant into the
compartments are made of pipes, 12 and 14 mm (5.7
and 6.6 l) in dia.

MAINTENANCE MANUAL
In case of inadvertent opening of bottles (break of
the protective membrane due to overheating),
special pipeline (16) connecting the fire
extinguishers with the atmosphere is provided in
the system. The pipeline is made of pipe, 6 mm in
dia. The outlet is provided in the starboard
between frames No 10 and 11.
All the pipes of the system are made of steel,
passivated and painted with red enamel.
For convenience of servicing, colour identification
rings are applied to the manifolds: blue rings, to
the manifolds of the LH engine compartment, gray
rings, to the manifolds of the main gearbox
compartment, black rings, to the manifold of
kerosene heater KO-50. The manifold of the RH
engine compartment is of green colour.
All the union nuts and joints of the system ore
settled with locking wire КС 0,8 Кд and seals are
affixed.
2.1.3 Sprayers.
The sprayers are designed for creation of an
intensive curtain of the fire extinguishant of the
required concentration in the zone being on fire.
The sprayers are essentially the steel pipes of
various configuration, 12 mm in dia, with a great
number of sрrаing holes, 0.8 mm (0.38 l) in dia,
through which the fire extinguishant is discharged,
which is supplied from the fire extinguishers along
the pipelines. The configuration of sprayers,
spacing and direction of drilled holes are selected
proceeding from requirements to utmost
effectiveness of fire extinguisbment: creation of
the required consumption of the fire extinguishant

and direction of spraying just into the zone being
on fire.
Installed vertically in the compartments of the LH
and RH engines are three lateral spray rings (12)
for each engine, embracing the engines-at three
points, with spraying boles directed to the engine
surfaces.
In the compartment of the main gearbox there is
horizontal spray ring (II) and four vertical pipes
- sprayers bent over the contour of the main
gearbox and embracing it from four sides.
Installed above the container of the service fuel
tank are straight and curved pipe-sprayers (10).
In the compartment of auxiliary power unit АИ-9В,
the sprayer is made as four-angled bent frame (9)
embracing the unit.
Installed in the compartment of heater KO-50 are
two vertical lateral spray rings connected with
horizontal pipe-sprayer (14).
All the pipes of sprayers are electrolessly
passivated end painted with red enamel, after
painting before assembly the spraying holes are
cleaned and blown with compressed air.
2.1.4 Fire Extinguishing Control System
The system provides for both automatic and manual
fire extinguishing control.
The automatic control is effected from the signals
of system ССП-ФК ensuring automatic cutting-in of
discharge of the main bottle into the zone being on
fire.
The manual control gives the possibility for the
crew to choose and discharge any bottle into any of
the four zones of the fire protection system.
026.20.00

MAINTENANCE MANUAL
The control is effected with the aid of buttons
from manual control panel FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM.
MANUAL ACTUATION arranged in the flight compartment
on the middle panel of the pilots' control board
and combined with the fire light warning board and
fire extinguishing actuation indication board (See
Wiring Diagram Manual 9-1).
Mounted on the panel are two rows of buttons for
manual cutting-in of discharge (МАIN FIREX DISCH
and ALTN FIREX DISCH) - four buttons for each row
arranged on one vertical line with the respective
light annunciators of the compartments being
protected on the light warning panel.
If the fire is detected in any of the compartments
being protected by system ССП-ФК (the red light
annunciator glows in the "flashing" mode on the
fire warning panel), the signal is fed for
automatic discharging the main fire extinguisher
into the zone being on fire. Lighting of the MAIN
PIREX DISCH annunciator testifies to the fact that
the fire extinguisher (bottle) is discharged.
It the fire is not extinguished (the light
annunciator continues to glow), depress the АLTN
FIREX DISCH button arranged on the control panel on
the one vertical line with the light annunciator
warning on fire. She alternate fire extinguisher is
discharged and the ALTK FIREX DISCH annunciator
lights up on the fire warning panel.
The main fire extinguisher discharge manual control
is effected in the same way when the automatic
control is failed (the MAIN FIREX DISCH annunciator
does not light up simultaneously with the red fire
annunciator).

2.1.5 Light Indication System
Fоr description of the light indication system
testifying to actuation of the tire extinguishing
equipment, refer to 026.10.00.
2.1.6 Control for Serviceability of Fire Extinguishing
System
Checking serviceability of the fire extinguishing
system includes:
checking serviceability of lamps of the
indication light annunciators;
checking serviceability of squibs and their
supply circuits;
checking charging of fire extinguishers with fire
extinguishant and pressure in the bottles.
For the procedure for checking the serviceability
of lamps of the Indication light annunciators,
refer to 026.10.00.
Checking the serviceability of squibs in the fire
extinguisher heads is effected from the PIRE
DETECTORS CHECK panel arranged on the middle panel
of the pilots' electric control board with the aid
of the SQUIB (CARTRIDGE) CHECK (КОНТРОЛЬ ПИРО-
ПАТРОНОВ) switch.
To enhance the reliability of operation, each head
of the fire extinguisher is provided with two
squibs ПП-3 whose electric igniters have separate
supply circuits.
As to check circuits, the squibs of both fire
extinguishers are divided into two groups: one of
squibs of each head belongs to group I, the other,
to group II. Respectively the SQUIB CHECK switch on
the check panel has two positions: "I" and "II".

In both positions of the snitch, the four MAIN
PIHEX DISCH annunciators and the four ALTS FIBEX
DISOH annunciators on the indication panel should
not light up. Lighting of any of the indicated
annunciators testifies to unserviceability of the
respective squib or its supply circuit.
The circuits for checking serviceability of squibs
are connected to the storage battery bus through
the FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM. FIRE WARNING circuit
breaker.
Checking charging of fire extinguishers and
pressure in the bottles is carried out against the
pressure gauge of the fire extinguisher. The
pressure should correspond to the value indicated
in the table given in the tire extinguisher
Certificate for the given ambient air temperature.
The decrease of pressure in the bottle is allowed
by not more than 1000 kPa (10 kgf/cm2 (142 psi))
from the normal value (See АПС-6600-230 MAIN-
TENANCE MANUAL).
2.2 Portable Fire Extinguishers
Two hand-operated portable fire extinguishers OP-2-
20-30 are installed on the helicopter.
The fire extinguishers are arranged in the cargo
compartment on the wall of the partition in area of
frame No. 1 (5H) at the opening of the sliding door
and on the cockpit left hand side in area of frame No
4. The fire extinguishers are quick- removable, they
are installed in special seats (made in the form of
cups) with the help of coupling bands with fasteners.
3 OPERATION
The fire in the protected compartments is put out by
supplying the fire extinguishant from fire

extinguishers УБШ-4-4 into the zone being on fire.
The fire extinguishing system provides for discharging
of the fire extinguishers in two shots. The main
discharge bottle (front in the direction of flight) has
the automatic discharge control (from system ССП-ФК)
and manual control (from the buttons arranged on the
fire extinguishing manual control panel). The alternate
discharge bottle is actuated only manually.
3.1 Operation of Fire Extinguishing Control Circuit.
For preparation of the fire extinguishing control
circuit for operation and principle of operation of
the circuit, refer to 026.10.00.
Described below is the operation of the control
circuit in some cases which may occur during
operation of the tire extinguishing system.
3.1.1 Procedure in Case of Failure of Main Bottle
Automatic Discharge In case of tire in any of the
helicopter compartments (for example, in the LH
engine compartment) the main bottle automatic
discharge fails (LEFT EHG FIRE annunciator (38/9)
lights up, the MAIN FIREX DISCH (39/9) indication
annunciator does not light up) (See 026.10.00, Fig. 2).
In this case, it is necessary to depress MANUAL
ACTUATION MAIN FIREX DISCH button (33/9); the power
from the storage battery bus through MAIN FIREX
DISCH circuit breakers (31/9, 32/9), closed
contacts 5-4 and 2-1 of relay (26/9) and closed
contacts 4-1 and 3-2 of button (33/9) is supplied
to squibs (41/9-1 and 41/9-11) of the main
discharge bottle.
The squibs actuate, the valve of the bottle head
opens and the fire extinguishant will be discharged

into the LH engine compartment from the main
discharge bottle. Simultaneously MAIN FIREX DISCH
annunciator (39/9) lights up, which testifies to
discharging of the main bottle.
3.1.2 Procedure in Case of Operation of Main Bottle
Automatic Discharge but Fire in Compartment is not
Extinguished.
The automatic discharge control bottle actuates but
the fire in the compartment is not extinguished
[(MAIN FIREX DISCH annunciator (39/9) lights up,
LEFT ENG FIRE annunciator (38/9) does not go out)].
In this case, it is necessary to depress MANUAL
ACTUATION. ALTN FIREX DISCH button (4/9); the power
from the storage battery bus through ALTN FIREX
DISCH circuit breakers (29/9, 30/9), closed
contacts 11-10 and 8-7 of relay (26/9) and closed
contacts 3-2 and 4-1 of button (4/9) is supplied to
squibs (5/9-11 and 5/9-1) of the alternate
discharge bottle.
The squibs actuate and the fire extinguishant is
discharged (in the given case into the LH engine
compartment) from the alternate bottle. The ALTN
FIREX DISCH annunciator (2/9) lights up.
3.1.3 Procedure in Case of Main Bottle Discharge
The main bottle is discharged for extinguishing the
fire in one of compartments (for example, in the LH
engine compartment) and hereinafter the necessity
of extinguishing the fire in the other compartment
occurs: MAIN FIREX DISCH annunciator (39/9) of the
LH engine compartment lights up; LEFT ENG FIRE
annunciator (38/9) goes out, but one of
annunciators RIGHT ENG FIRE (45/9), KO-50 FIRE
(102/9) or MAIN GEARBOX АИ-9 FIRE (74/9) lights up.
In this case, it is necessary to depress the MANUAL

ACTUATION. ALTN FIREX DISCH button (9/9. 24/9 or
16/9) of the respective compartment.
The principle of further operation of the circuit
is similar to those described in Item 3.1.2.
Lighting of ALTN FIREX DISCH annunciators (7/9,
21/9 or 14/9) testifies to discharging of the
alternate bottle into the zone of the secondary
fire.
3.2 Operation of Fire Extinguisher Head
Valve-type head ПГКц actuates for opening from the
explosion of its squibs (See 026.10.00, Fig. 1).
Two squibs (35) of the head are exploded from the
electric pulse and create a force for opening the
valve: powder gases through the holes in casing (37)
are supplied into the gas chamber and then through
the drilled holes in the body of collet shackle (36)
they are supplied under its coupling. Under the
action of gases the coupling displaces and releases
the collet holder of the rod.
The lock rod under the pressure of fire extinguishant
in the bottle opens the collet and displaces, rod
valve (40) closing the inlet pipe connection of the
head separates from the casing seat and opens the
bottle.
The fire extinguishant under the action of compressed
air is fed into the distribution manifold and then
through the pipeline and spraying pipes is atomized
into the zone being on fire.
After the fire extinguisher is discharged and the
pressure in the bottle drops to zero, spring (43) of
the rod returns the valve which overlapping the
outlet hole of the bottle operates as a non-return
valve preventing the bottle from filling with fire

extinguishant during actuation of the bottle of the
next shot.
The upper portion of the rod protrudes over the
casing by 15 mm (7.1 l), indicating that the bottle
bead has actuated and normally opened.
3.3 Operation of Check Circuit
Checking the serviceability of squibs in the fire
extinguisher heads and their supply circuits is
carried out by consequently setting SQUIBS CHECK
switch (6/9, See 026.10.00, Pig. 2) on the middle
panel of the pilots' electric control board to
positions "I" and "II". Preliminarily FIRE FIGHTING
SYSTEM. FIRE WARNING circuit breaker (28/9) should be
switched on.
When FIRE WARNING circuit breaker (28/9) is switched
on (the SQUIBS CHECK switch is set to position "I"),
the circuits are formed: the storage battery bus,
FIRE WARNING circuit breaker, contacts 5-4 of relay

1 GENERAL INFORMATION
On the helicopter the fuel is stored in three main fuel
tanks (See 028.00.00, Fig. 1). Two rigid drop tanks (1)
and (7) are installed outside the fuselage and one
flexible service tank (42) is installed in container
out of the main gear box.
One or two auxiliary (extra) rigid tanks can be
installed inside the fuselage in oder to increase the
flight range and time.
Capacity of fuel tanks:
service tank.................................445±10 ltr
RH external tank............................1030±10 ltr
RH external tank (increased capacity).......1110±10 ltr
LH external tank............................1140±10 ltr
auxiliary fuel tank..........................915±10 ltr
2 DESCRIPTION
2.1 Service Fuel Tank
The service fuel tank (fig. 1) is a flexible tank.
The tank inner layer is made of 0.7 mm thick
kerosene-resistant rubber, while the outer protective
layer is made of rubberized kapron fabric.
The tank is installed in a special container provided
in the fuselage and is secured thereto by pins (4).
The tank outer surfaces tightly fit to the inner
surfaces of the container.
Plate (1) and adapter (6), to which fuel pump 463Б
(7) is attached, are secured to the tank with the
help of metal fittings vulcanized into rubber flanges
which are glued into the tank.

MAINTENANCE MANUAL
The following components are installed on the tank
plate (fig. 2): fuel quantity transmitter (1), float
valve (18), filler neck (4) and 768600MA shut-off
(by-pass) valve (2).
From outside the tank bottom and walls (per 2/3 tank
height) are glued with self-sealing cover consisting
of four layers:
- 1-st layer (inner, fit to the tank wall (bottom)) –
203Б-Л0,7/203 B-L0,7 uncured rubber;
- 2-nd layer - 10-Л2/10L2 rubber;
- 3-rd layer – P-29/R-29 sponge;
- 4-th layer (outer) – rubberized kapron fabric.
2.2 External Fuel Tanks
The tanks welded structure includes a set of
diaphragms, four of which are strong and located at
the places where the tank is attached to the
fuselage. The stampings and holes made in the upper
and lower portions of the diaphragms ensure passage
of fuel and air.
The RH external tank can be performed in two
variants:
- standard fuel external tank (fig. 4) is installed
on helicopters equipped with КО-50 kerosene heater;
- RH external tank of increased capacity (fig. 4а) is
installed on helicopters without КО-50 kerosene
heater or equipped with КО-50 kerosene heater
located on the fuselage upper section.

Arranged in the upper part of the tanks (fig. 3),
(fig. 4) is filler neck (9), (2), flange (4), (3) of
the fuel quantity gauge transmitter, drain connection
(3), (5) and in the lower part are two connections
(6), (8) for connection of pipelines interconnecting
the fuel tanks, flange (7), (10) for the drain valve
and flange (5), (9) for the attachment of the mount
to fuel pump ЭЦН-91C.
Provided on the front end face of the RH tank is
connection (1) (fig. 4) intended for connection of
the pipeline for draining excess fuel from the supply
system of kerosene heater KO-50.
Pump ЭЦН-91C (17) (fig. 5) is installed in the mount
which consists of casing (18) cast of aluminium
alloy, cross-piece (21) and cover (19).
The pump-to-casing hold-down force of no more than
5000 N (500 kgf) is provided by torque tightening of
pressure bolt (20) equal to 650 N·m (65 kgf·cm).
The mount together with the pump is installed on the
fuel tank flange and is secured with bolts (13).
From outside the external fuel tanks have self-
sealing covers to prevent fuel outflow in case of the
tanks damage. From the tank below and outside the
self-sealing cover consists of the layer of rubber
mixture 10, the layer of P-29/R-29 sponged rubber 5
and 300B/300V soft armor. In place, where the tank is
fit to the fuselage, the self-sealing consists of two
layers of rubber mixture 10 and 300B/300V soft armor.
In area of the tank filler the self-sealing surface
is covered with ВИТЭФ-1/VITEF-1 sealing compound to
prevent the self-sealing cover from fuel outflow.

Diagram of external fuel tanks self-sealing is shown
in fig.6.
The attachment of the mount and its point of
installation in the tank provide for removal and
installation of pump ЭЦН-91С without removal
(installation) of the external fuel tank from the
fuselage.
Each external fuel tank is secured to the fuselage
with four steel bands (5) (fig. 5) which are attached
to brackets (8) and (10). All the lower and two upper
attachment brackets of each tank are made of
aluminium alloy while the upper brackets on load-
bearing frames Nos 7 and 10 are made of steel. The
desired band torque equal to 60 to 70 N·m (6 to 7
kgf·cm) is provided by clamping bolts. Each tank is
electrically connected to the fuselage by three
bonding strips (11).
RH external fuel tank of increased capacity (fig.
4а), unlike the standard RH external tank, has
extended front portion of the tank. So, the tank
capacity is increased for 80 l and come up to
1110 l.
The maintenance of the RH external fuel tank of
increased capacity is the same as for the standard
one.
2.3 Auxiliary Fuel Tanks
The auxiliary fuel tanks (fig. 7) are welded
structures, each comprising two diaphragms (6), two
load-bearing frames (19) arranged at the points of
attachment of the tank to the support and shell (3).
Made in the upper and lower portions of the diaphragm
and in the load-bearing frames are holes to allow air
and fuel to pass, besides made in the load-bearing
frames are recesses formed by stamping.

centrifugal fuel pump 463Б (11); two centrifugal fuel
pumps ЭЦН-91С (15), (18); float valve 766300A-1-Т (12);
three shut-off valves 768600MA (4), (13); three shut-
off valves 633630 (16); two solenoid valves 610200A
(6); by-pass valve 637000 (33); fuel filler 11ТФ30СТ
(7); preservation valves (5) and (8) of engines TB3-
117BM and auxiliary power unit АИ-9В, respectively;
non-return valves unit (3); pipelines and hoses,
electrically-driven fuel pump 748Б (3) (See 028.00.00,
Fig 2).
768600МА electro-driven shut-off valves (17, 22) can be
installed on the helicopter instead of 633600А manual
control shut-off valves (16) of external fuel tank
cross-feed (See 028.00.00, Fig. 1)
From the external tanks the fuel is supplied by two
pumps ЭЦН-91С over the pipelines to the service tank
wherefrom it is supplied by pump 463Б to engines TB3-
117BM.
In the lines running from pump 463Б to the engines,
fuel fire shut-off valves 768600MA and preservation
connections are installed.
Tapping of fuel for supplying auxiliary power unit АИ-
9В and kerosene heater is performed from the line
running to RH engine TB3-117BM to the fire shut-off
valve.
Tank fuelling is performed by gravity through the
filler necks. Fuel drain from the tanks is performed
via the drain valve of the service tank; in this case,
fuel is transferred by pumps ЭЦН-91С from the external
fuel tanks to the service one.

2 DESCRIPTION
2.1 Electrically-driven centrifugal fuel pump 463Б with
DC electric motor МВ-280Б is intended for building up
fuel boost pressure at the inlet into the main fuel
pumps of engines TB3-117BM and auxiliary power unit
АИ-9В as well as into pump 748A of kerosene heater
KO-50.
Pump 463Б is arranged outside the tank. It is secured
to the branch pipe cast of aluminium alloy installed
in the lower part of the service tank.
In case of failure of pump 4&ЗБ, the engine operation
is not upset since, in this case, fuel comes to the
engines from the service tank by gravity.
The pump power supply circuit is connected to the
storage battery bus via fuse ИП-20 installed in the
starting junction box of auxiliary power unit АИ-9В
arranged in the radio compartment on the port side
between frames Nos 16 and 18. The pump cut-in control
circuit is connected to the storage battery bus via
circuit breaker АЗСГК-2 inscribed FUEL SYSTEM. FUEL
TANKS PIMPS-SERVICE (ТОПЛИВНАЯ СИСТЕМА. НАСОСЫ
ТОПЛИВН. БАКОВ - РАСХОД) installed on the RH circuit
breakers panel of the pilots' electric control board.
The pump is cut in by the ТАNKS PIMPS - SERVICE
(НАСОСЫ БАКОВ - РАСХОД) switch installed on the
middle panel of the electric control board.
2.2 Electrically-driven centrifugal pumps ЭЦН-91С
arranged in the mounts inside the drop fuel tanks are
intended for transferring fuel into the service tank.

2.3 Electrically-driven fuel pump 748Б of a gear type is
intended for supplying fuel to the burners of
kerosene heater KO-50. It is installed in the
compartment of the kerosene heater.
The power supply circuit of the pump is connected to
the rectifier bus of channel 1 via fuse ИГТ-10
arranged in junction box No.3 which is installed in
the flight compartment on the web of frame No.5H. The
pump cut-in control circuit is connected to the
rectifier bus of channel 1 via KO-50 circuit breaker
АЗСГК-10 installed on the RH circuit breakers panel
of the pilots' electric control board. The pump is
cut in when the kerosene heater is switched on.
2.4 Float valve 766300A-1-Т is intended for protection of
the service tank against overfilling when fuel is
transferred from the external tanks. It is installed
in the service tank and is secured to the plate.
In the course of transfer when the service tank is
not full, the valve separates from the seat under the

The fuel comes through the valve body ports into the
tank and fills it. When the tank is filled up and the
float of the valve occupies its upper position, the
valve cuts off the fuel supply into the tank.
2.5 The shut-off valves of the fuel system are designed
for shutting off and opening the fuel lines.
Installed in the lines are two types of shut-off
valves:
valves 768600MA which are electrically and remotely
controlled;
valves 633600 of manual control.
Two fuel fire shut-off valves 768600MA are installed
in the supply lines of engines TB3-117BM on the
ceiling panel in the gearbox compartment.
The power supply circuits of the fuel fire shut-off
valves are connected to the storage battery buses of
channels 1 and 2 via circuit breakers АЗСГК-5
inscribed SHUT-OFF VALVES - LEFT (ПЕРЕКРЫВ. КРАНЫ -
ЛЕВЫЙ) and SHUT-OFF VALVES - RIGHT (ПЕРЕКРЫВ. КРАНЫ -
ПРАВЫЙ) installed on the RH circuit breaker panel of
the pilots' electric control board. The valves are
opened and closed by the SHUT-OFF VALVES - LEFT and
SHUT- OFF VALVES - RIGHT selector switches protected
with caps and installed on the middle panel of the
electric control board. The closed position of the
valves is indicated by annunciators LEFT-HAHD CLOSED
(ЛЕВЫЙ ЗАКРЫТ) and RIGHT-НАЖ) CLOSED (ПРАВЫЙ ЗАКРЫТ)
arranged under the selector switches.
One valve 768600MA is intended for by-passing fuel
from the external tanks into the service tank in case
of failure of float valve 766300A-1-Т in the closed
position. The valve is installed in the plate of the
service tank.

installed on the EH panel of the electric control
board. Opening and closing of the valve are performed
by the FUEL SYSTEM - BY- PASS (ТОПЛИВНАЯ СИСТЕМА -
ЛЕРЕПУСК) selector switch installed on the middle
panel of the electric control board.
2.6. Shut-off valves 633&30 are controlled manually and
intended for shutting off the cross-feed pipelines
connecting the external tanks to each other in the
front and rear parts and used for equal fuel usage
from the external tanks and for fuel usage from both
tanks in case of failure of one of pumps ЭЦН-91С.
Two valves are installed in the front cross-feed line
and one, in the rear line. The normal position of the
valves is an open position.
The valves should be closed on the ground during
removal of the tanks and in draining fuel separately
from the external and auxiliary fuel tanks or in
transferring (separately) fuel into the service tank
from the RH (LH) external tank.
2.7. Solenoid valves 610200A are intended for control of
fuel supply to auxiliary-power unit АИ-9В and
kerosene heater KO-50. The solenoid valve installed
in the fuel supply line of auxiliary power unit АИ-9В
is installed in the gear box compartment and is
opened automatically when pressing the start button
of the auxiliary power unit. Closing of the valve is
performed upon switching off auxiliary power unit АИ-
9В.

The solenoid valve installed in the line feeding fuel
to kerosene heater KO-50 is installed on the ceiling
panel of the, cargo compartment under the right fuel
fire shut off valve and is opened automatically when
the heater is started and closed when the heater is
switched off.
2.8. By-pass valve 637000 is intended for connection of
one or two auxiliary fuel tanks to the front line
connecting the external tanks as well as for draining
fuel from the auxiliary fuel tanks. The valve is
opened manually, it is installed under the floor of
the cargo compartment near front shut-off valves
633630 and provides for both separate and
simultaneous fuel usage from the auxiliary fuel
tanks.
2.9. Fuel filter 11ТФ30СТ is intended for cleaning off
fuel from mechanical admixtures in the supply line of
auxiliary power unit АИ-9В and is installed in the
АИ-9В compartment.
2.10 The engine preservation valves are intended for
connection of the preservation installation.
The preservation valves of engines TB3-117BM are
installed in the engine fuel supply lines downstream
of the fuel fire shut-off valves. The preservation
valve of auxiliary power unit АИ-9В is installed in
the engine fuel supply line downstream of filter
11ТФ30СТ.
2.11 The non-return valves unit comprises two non-return
valves mounted in the lines for transferring fuel
from the external tanks to the service tank. The
valves allow the fuel to flow only in one direction,
into the service tank and are installed on the plate
of the service tank upstream of the float and bypass
valves.

2.12 The fuel system pipelines are mainly made of pipes
АМГ-2К of different sizes.
Flexible pipelines (hoses) are used in the auxiliary
fuel tank drain system (in installation of one or two
auxiliary fuel tanks) as well as they are used for
feeding fuel to engines TB3-117BM within a small
section and to auxiliary power unit АИ-9В in the
section from the preservation valve to the engine.
The system of pipelines and non-return valves
provides for the fuel supply of the engines from any
of two pumps of the external fuel tanks in case one
of them fails to operate.
2.13 Electro-driven shut-off valves (17, 22).
Electro-driven shut-off valve performs the same
function as manual shut-off valve – prevents fuel
from flow out of both external fuel tanks in case of
damage of any one of them.
To control the shut-off valves there are two SHUT-OFF
VALVES, FRONT and BACK selector switches having OPEN
– SHUT positions and placed under the protective
caps. To indicate closed position of the valves,
FRONT CLOSED, BACK CLOSED annunciators are installed
under the switches. These annunciators are connected
to the standard system of the annunciator lamp
serviceability test.
The valves are power supplied through FRONT SHUT-OFF
VALVE and BACK SHUT-OFF VALVE circuit breakers
arranged on the RH CB panel under the FUEL SYSTEM
placard.

1 GENERAL
Mounted on the helicopter are the following instruments
of the fuel system: electrical lever-float fuel
quantity gauge СКЭС-2027Б intended for remote
measurement of fuel amount in the helicopter tanks in
level flight and at helicopter parking on three points
as well as for indication of full fuelling and
emergency fuel remainder in the service tank.
NOTE. Fuel quantity gauge СКЭС-2027Б does not show the
capacity of the RH auxiliary fuel tank in
measurements of the total fuel quantity; three
pressure switches СД-29А are intended for making
annunciators indicate that the fuel pumps of the
service and external tanks do not operate.
2 DESCRIPTION
2.1 Fuel Quantity Gauge СКЭС-2027Б
The set of fuel quantity gauge incorporates:
indicator БЭ-09К, selector switch П-8УК, five
transmitters, two transmitter simulators ИДП-1 of the
auxiliary fuel tanks.
The fuel quantity gauge indicator and selector switch
are installed on the RH instrument board. The
transmitter is arranged in each fuel tank. The
transmitter simulators are connected into the fuel
quantity gauge circuit, with the auxiliary fuel
tanks removed and are installed above the filler
necks of the auxiliary fuel tanks.
The fuel quantity gauge circuit provides for a
possibility of operation with the auxiliary fuel
tanks removed. In this case, connected into the

circuit is transmitter simulator ИДП-1 instead of the
transmitter of the auxiliary fuel tank.
Indicator БЭ-09К is essentially a vibration-proof
magnetoelectric ratio meter the indications of which
are graduated in litres.
The instrument dial presents two scales: the outer
and the inner ones. The outer scale is intended for
reading the total fuel reserve while the inner scale,
the fuel reserve in a separate tank. The outer scale
is graduated from 0 to 2800 ltr with a division value
of 200 ltr. The inner scale is graduated from 0 to
1200 ltr with a division value of 100 ltr.
Selector switch П-8УК is a multi-purpose two-pole
slip-ring selector switch. As the selector switch
knob is turned to numbered dial marks, various
transmitters in turn or all transmitters at once
connect to the indicator. Applied to the selector
switch shell are inscriptions corresponding to the
fixed positions of the selector switch knob:
TOTAL (СУММА), the total fuel reserve in the tanks;
EXTNLH (ПЛ), ЕХТNRH (ППР), SERV (РАСХ), Е (Д), fuel
measurement in the LH and RH external, service and
LH auxiliary tanks;
OFF (ВЫКЛ), the fuel quantity gauge in the OFF
position.
The lever-float fuel quantity gauge transmitters are
installed in the tanks in compliance with their
marking. The wires are connected to the transmitters
via plug connectors. Attached to the block of the
transmitter of the service tank is a warning unit
intended for indication of an emergency fuel
remainder.

Installed outside the fuselage near the tanks filler
necks are annunciators TANK FULL (БАК ПОЛОН) with
white light filters connected into the fuel quantity
gauge circuit and indicating full fuelling of the
tanks. Annunciator TANK FULL is not installed near
the filler neck of the service tank.
Installed on the RH instrument board is annunciator
270 LTR FUEL REMAIN (ОСТАЛОСЬ 270 Л) with a red light
filter connected into the fuel quantity gauge circuit
and to system CAC-4 and indicating the critical fuel
remainder.
To change over the fuel quantity gauge circuit for
indication of tanks filling in fuelling or for the
check of lamps serviceability of annunciator TANK
FULL installed on the middle panel of the electric
control board is selector switch FUELLING - CHECK
(ЗАПРАВКА - КОНТР).
The fuel quantity gauge supply circuit is connected
to the battery bus of channel 2 via circuit breaker
АЗСГК-2 inscribed FUEL QTY IND (ТОПЛИВОМЕР) installed
on the RH circuit breakers panel of the electric
control board.
2.2 Pressure Switches СД-29А
Pressure switches СД-29А are intended for fuel pump
operation indication control.
Connected to each fuel pump line is one pressure
switch installed in the cargo compartment at frame
No. 12 atop.

is based on the principle of conversion of the non-
electric magnitude (fuel level height variable) into
the electric magnitude - variable active resistance
changing with the fuel level. This variable active
resistance connects to electrical indicator БЭ-09К.
For conversion of the non-electric magnitude, that
is, the fuel level height, into the electric one, use
is made of variable-resistance transducers installed
in the tanks.
When the fuel level in the tank changes, the
transducer float lying on the fuel surface follows
the level variation and via the mechanical
transmission (the kinematic chain) moves the slider
of the rheostat arranged in the transducer casing.
The slider moves and varies the rheostat arm
resistance, which causes variation of current
magnitudes in the loops of the БЭ-09К ratio meter
and, hence, the deflection of the pointer.
The schematic circuit diagram of the fuel quantity
gauge (See Wiring Diagram Manual 4-1).
When measuring the total fuel reserve, set the knob
of selector switch П-8УК to the TOTAL (СУММА)
position. When measuring the fuel reserve in one
tank, set the knob of selector switch П-8УК to a
position corresponding to switching-on of the
transducer of the tank under check.
The check pertaining to fuelling of the tank is
performed against respective annunciators TANK PULL
(Ref. Nos 5/4, 11/4, 14/4) in setting selector switch

to the FUELLING position. In this case, power is fed
from the battery bus of channel 2 via circuit breaker
FUEL QTY IND (Ref. No. 4/4), contacts 1-2 of selector
switch FUELLING - CHECK (Ref. No. 7/4) to the lamps
of annunciators (Ref. Nos 5/4, 11/4, 14/4). Once one
of the tanks grows full, negative potential is
connected to a respective lamp via the transducer and
selector switch П-8УК, and the lamp comes on.
For checking serviceability of lamps of annunciators
ТАNK FULL, set selector switch FUELLING - CHECK (Ref.
No. 7/4) to the CHECK position; in this case, the
power from the battery bus of channel 2 will be fed
via circuit breaker FUEL QTY IND (Ref. No. 4/4),
contacts 1-3 of selector switch FUELLING - CHECK (Ref
No. 7/4) to the coil of relay (Ref. No. 12/4). The
relay operates and with its closed contacts connects
the negative potential to the lamps. If the lamps are
serviceable, they come on.
When the fuel remainder is 270 ltr, the service tank
transducer closes the circuit of the lamp of
annunciator 270 L FUEL REMAIN (ОСТАЛОСЬ 270 Л) (Ref.
No. 9/4). The lamp comes on.
3.2. Operation of Pressure Switch СД-29А
When the fuel pump goes into operation and fuel
pressure in its line becomes equal to the excessive
pressure of 0.015 MPa (0.15 kgf/cm2(2.1 psi)), the
contacts of pressure switch СД-29А get closed and
disconnect the power supply from a respective lamp of
the annunciator. The lamp goes out. If there is no
fuel pressure in the line, the contacts of pressure
switch СД-29А get open, and the power is supplied to
the respective lamp of the annunciator. The lamp
comes on.

1 GENERAL
The helicopter is equipped with fuel tanks integrated
drain system.
Integrated drain system with jet device (see 028.00.00.
fig.1, 2) provides for external and auxiliary tanks
drain via the service tank.
The jet device ensures normal operation of the fuel
system in case of 766300А-1-Т float valve (12) failure
and prevents fuel discharge into atmosphere through the
drain pipes. Jamming of the float valve (12) in open
position may result in the service tank overflow. Fuel
via drain pipe (25) is supplied to the jet device (26),
that bypasses it back into external fuel tanks via
drain pipe (28)thus preventing the fuel from getting
into drain pipe (27).
Additional drain of the service tank is ensured via the
check valve (23) and pipe (24).
