I Scope
This specification defines the requirements for grading and quality of fine and coarse
normal weight aggregate (other than lightweight or special purpose aggregate) for use in
concrete.
A. Any conflicts between this specification and other applicable Saudi Aramco
Materials System Specifications (SAMSSs), Engineering Standards (SAESs),
Standard Drawings (SASDs), or industry standards, codes, and forms shall be
resolved in writing by the Company or Buyer Representative through the
Manager, Consulting Services Department of Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.
B. Direct all requests to deviate from this specification in writing to the Company or
Buyer Representative, who shall follow internal company procedure SAEP-302
and forward such requests to the Manager, Consulting Services Department of
Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

The selection of material and equipment, and the design, construction, maintenance, and
repair of equipment and facilities covered by this specification shall comply with the
latest edition of the references listed below, unless otherwise noted.

sloped, hard and free of foreign materials, which could cause contamination of
aggregates. The ready mixed concrete supplier shall handle aggregates in a manner to
minimize segregation and accumulation of fines.
The following paragraph numbers refer to ASTM C33/C33M - 13, “Standard Specification
for Concrete Aggregates” which is part of this specification. The text in each paragraph
below is an addition, exception, modification, or deletion to ASTM C33/C33M as noted.
Paragraph numbers of ASTM C33/C33M not appearing below shall apply without any
modification. Paragraph numbers not appearing in ASTM C33/C33M are new paragraphs
to be inserted in numerical order.
The ground on which the aggregates are stockpiled shall be hard and free
of foreign materials. Loading shall be done by an experienced operator.
The loader bucket shall not cut into the underlying foundation on which the
aggregates are stockpiled.
5.2 (Addition) Manufactured sand shall be washed prior to batching with water
that contains no more than 3500 parts per million (ppm) of total dissolved
solids (TDS) and 1000 ppm of chlorides.

Fine aggregates shall not contain any materials that are deleteriously reactive
with the alkalies in the cement in an amount sufficient to cause excessive
