Athletics (100 m):

The 100 metres, or 100-meter dash, is a sprint race in track and field competitions. The

shortest common outdoor running distance, the 100-meter (109.36 yd) dash is one of the
most popular and prestigious events in the sport of athletics. It has been contested at
the Summer Olympics. since 1896 for men and since 1928 for women. The reigning 100 m
Olympic or world champion is often named "the fastest man or woman in the world"

History of Athletics:

Egyptian and Asian civilizations are known to have encouraged athletics

many centuries before the Christian era. Perhaps as early as
1829 BC, Ireland was the scene of the Lugnasad festival’s Tailteann Games,
involving various forms of track-and-field activity. The Olympic Games of Greece,
traditionally dated from 776 BC, continued through 11 centuries before
ending about AD 393. These ancient Olympics were strictly male affairs, as
to both participants and spectators. Greek women were reputed to have
formed their own Heraea Games, which, like the Olympics, were held every
four years. Athletics as practiced today was born and grew to maturity
in England. The first mention of the sport in England was recorded in 1154,
when practice fields were first established in London. The sport was banned
by King Edward III in the 1300s but revived a century later by Henry VIII,
reputed to be an accomplished hammer thrower.

General Rules of Athletics:

 A runner must always wear sneakers or athletic shoes during the
game.
 In shorter events such as in 800 meters race, athletes should stay
inside the lane.
 In longer events, they are allowed to move to the innermost lanes
with a condition that they should not touch the other participants.
 Always look both directions before crossing the track or any runways.
 Athletes participating in field events must understand that their
implements can be dangerous and are not toys.
 Warm up in the outer lanes.  During workout, if you run up behind a
runner, yell “track” so they know to move to the outer lane and out of
your way.
 ∙Do not cut in front of people while they are running.  This can lead to
injury to you and the other runners involved.
