A Rewrite the sentences, replacing the relative clauses with participle clauses.
1 The actor who stars in the film isn’t very well-known.
2 Shakespeare, who was born in 1564, is one of Britain’s most famous playwrights.

• Give each student a copy of the handout and ask them to do
task A. Check answers as a class.

• Divide the class into pairs and allow them time to complete
task C. Encourage them to take a guess at the ones they
don’t know. Check answers as a class.

• To increase motivation, task C could be done as a
competition. Set a time limit in which pairs must correct
as many of the mistakes as they can. Then tell them to
exchange handouts with another pair. Check the answers
as a class and tell them to award a point for every correct
answer. The pair with the most points are the winners.
