Electrical Circuit Lab Report 1

This lab report summarizes two electrical circuit experiments: 1. A voltage divider circuit with resistors R1, R2, and measurements of voltage and current. Theoretical and measured values matched well. 2. A KCL circuit with resistors R1, R2, R3 and calculations of current using KCL and KVL equations. Current values matched reasonably well between theoretical and measurements. The report presents the circuit diagrams, component values, equations, tables of theoretical and measured values, and conclusions on Ohm's law and KCL/KVL analysis of the circuits.

Theoretical Value of Current Flow Through Resistors Calculation:

𝑉 =𝐼 ×( R1 + R2 )

5=𝐼 ×(1+2.2)

Since they are in series, the value of 𝐼1 and 𝐼2 is same, which is 1.56 mA

No. Component Theoritical Value Measured Value

1. I1 1.56 mA 1.56 mA

2. I2 1.56 mA 1.56 mA

1.4 Make a i-v Relationship Graph

According to the lab experiment, I1 and I2 had the same current (I) value of

1.56mA. This is so because each resistor in a series circuit receives the same

amount of current. the voltage across each resistor is the same even when the

current through each resistor different. This is due to the fact that according to

Ohm's equation, V=IR, meaning that to calculate voltage, one must multiply the

current's value by the resistance's value. The resistors in this circuit don't have

the same amount, which is 1kΩ and 2kΩ. The voltage between each resistor is thus

1.563V and 3.437V according to Ohm's law.

2. KCL Circuit

2.1 Use the DMM To Measure the Additional Resistor R3

Figure 7 The resistor R3 measurement

Table 4. Resistor R3 Nominal and Measured Value

No. Component Nominal Value Measured Value

1. R3 1kΩ 1.13Ω

2.2 Calculate the Current That Flows Through Each Resistor, Then Compare

It with the Measurement Using Multimeter.

Figure 10. The measurement of I3

Theoretical Value of Current Flow Through Resistors Calculation:

KCL: I1 = I2 +I3

Substitute to KVL:
−V + I 1 R1 + I 2 R2 =0
−V +3 I 2 R1 + I 2 R2=0
−5+3000 I 2+2200 I 2=0
I 2=0.96 mA
Substitute I2:
I 1=3 I 2
I 1=3(0.96)
I 1=2.88 mA

2 I 2=I 3
I 3=2(0.96)
I 3=1.87 mA

Table 5 Theoretical and measured value of current flow through resistors in KCL Circuit

No. Component Theoritical Value Measured Value

1. I1 2.88 mA 2.78 mA

2. I2 0.96 mA 0.79 mA

3 I3 1.87 mA 2.06 mA
