Practice Paper on Word Problems from ‘ Finding the percentage of a quantity’.

1. There are 200 cars in a multi-storey car park. Given that 40% of them are green, find the
number of cars which are not green.

2. There are 120 cars in a multi-storey car park. Given that 30% of them are blue, find the
number of cars which are not blue.

3. A school has 2500 students. Given that 5% of them were late for school on a particular day,
find the number of students who were punctual for school.

4. A class has 50 students. Given that 80% of them passed a Mathematics test, calculate the
number of students who failed the test.

5. A class has 40 students. Given that 75% of them passed an English Spelling test, calculate the
number of students who failed the test.

6. A company finds that 7𝟐 % of the mobile phone sets made are defective. The company made 40000
mobile phone sets. How many mobile phone sets were defective?

7. A school has 1500 students. Given that 3% of them were late for school on a particular day,
find the number of students who were punctual for school.

8. A company has 15000 employees. During the financial crisis in 2008, 3.75% of them were
retrenched, 45.25% of them had a pay cut and the rest were unaffected. Find the number of
employees who were unaffected by the financial crisis.

9. A company has 16000 employees. During the financial crisis in 2020, 2.25% of them were
retrenched, 37.5% of them had a pay cut and the rest were unaffected. Find the number of
employees who were unaffected by the financial crisis.

10. A company has 12000 employees. During the financial crisis in 2008, 2.5% of them were
retrenched, 50.75% of them had a pay cut and the rest were unaffected. Find the number of
employees who were unaffected by the financial crisis.
