THE PROBLEM

This study investigated the health-related quality of life and the job

satisfaction of private school teachers in the province of _____________ during the

time of pandemic from March 2020 to the present. In addition, analysis was

conducted on how their health-related quality of life was related with their job

satisfaction.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Design (Sample ONLY for studies not using any mixed methods design)

[This study employed the cross-sectional design of the survey approach

(Edmonds & Kennedy, 2017), also named as cross-sectional explanatory design

(Johnson & Christensen, 2016). This study gathered the data at one point in time

from the research participants with the aid of the standardized questionnaires called

World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) for the health-related

quality of life and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) for job satisfaction.

The data were used to describe the degree of health-related quality of life and the job

satisfaction of the COVID-19 frontliners at the time of the pandemic and to analyze

and explain the relationship between the health-related quality of life and job

satisfaction of these COVID-19 frontliners.]

Design (Sample ONLY for studies using mixed methods design)

[This study employed the data-validation design of the convergent-parallel

approach (Edmonds & Kennedy, 2017) which is one of the mixed methods. This

study gathered the quantitative data through a questionnaire containing the

standardized questionnaires called World Health Organization Quality of Life

(WHOQOL-BREF) for the health-related quality of life and the Minnesota Satisfaction

Questionnaire (MSQ) for job satisfaction. The qualitative data that were gathered

through one-on-one interview were used to validate the information from the

quantitative results. The data were used to describe the degree of health-related

quality of life and the job satisfaction of the COVID-19 frontliners at the time of the

pandemic and to analyze and explain the relationship between the health-related

quality of life and job satisfaction of these COVID-19 frontliners.]

The instrument that was utilized to collect the data in this study was a

questionnaire that composed of three parts. The first part was researcher-made that

asked for the profile of the participants. The second part was a standardized

questionnaire called World Health Organization Quality of Life instrument, short form

(WHOQOL-BREF) which was derived from the WHOQOL-100 that measured the

health-related quality of life of the research participants. This standardized

questionnaire appeared to be reliable with Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient greater than

0.70 (Van Esch, Den Oudsten & De Vries, 2011). The WHOQOL-BREF contained

four domains of Physical health, Psychological health, Social relationships, and

Environment with additional two items about Overall QOL and General health. It was

answered using a 5-point rating scale. The parameters used in this standardized

questionnaire were as follows:

A letter through email was sent to the World Health Organization (WHO) on

the use of this questionnaire when it was approved for data gathering and WHO

responded positively through email. Lastly, the third part was from the standardized

questionnaire called the short form of the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire

(MSQ) of the University of Minnesota that was composed of 20 questions. The

original version of the MSQ was 100-item long designed by Dr. Weiss in 1967. The

20-item MSQ contained two factors classified as Intrinsic and Extrinsic Satisfaction of

the job. Questions 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, and 20 asked for intrinsic job

satisfaction while questions 5, 6, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, and 19 for extrinsic job

satisfaction. This short-form used the same response categories in the 1977 long

form that contains the following parameters:

The Chinese translation of this questionnaire was used lately in the study on

job satisfaction of frontline medical staff during COVID-19 pandemic in China by Yu et

al. (2020). The short form of MSQ had been used in several researches already since

it was found to be stable over time with excellent coefficient alpha values from 0.85 to

0.91 and was more parsimonious compared to other instruments of job satisfaction

(Martins & Proenca, 2012). MSQ has now been declared to be free of charge and

can be used without written consent provided due acknowledgment will be given to

Vocational Psychology Research, University of Minnesota as the source (University

of Minnesota, 2021). However, a letter asking permission for its use in this study was

sent through email to the University.

Gathering of Data

Statistical Analysis/Treatment of Data (This is a sample from a study not using mixed methods)

The statistical tools utilized were the frequencies, percentages, weighted

means, independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Pearson

Product Moment Correlation. The frequencies and percentages were used to

analyse the demographic profile of the participants. The weighted mean was used to

compute for the categories of and the overall health-related quality of life and the job

satisfaction of the participants. The analysis on the significance of the differences in

health-related quality of life and job satisfaction of the participants according to

profile made use of the independent t-test for sex and one-way ANOVA for age,

educational attainment, frontliner type, and the number of months working as

fontliner. Lastly, the significance of the degree of relationship or correlation between

the health-related quality of life and the job satisfaction of the participants was

investigated through the use of Pearson Product Moment Correlation. All

computations were done through the use of Excel.

I understand that I was selected to participate in this study and I am giving my


consent by signing this document to be a participant of this research engagement
