ChE321 Lab-Report-2 Nufable

1. The document reports on a laboratory experiment to determine frictional losses in a straight pipe. Air was flowed through steel and glass pipes at varying velocities and temperatures while pressure drops were measured. 2. Computations of fluid properties, head losses, work done by the blower motor, and motor efficiency were performed. Small changes in air temperature resulted in changes to fluid properties and head losses through the pipes. 3. The experiment allowed students to determine head losses through pipes, measure work done by the motor and blower, and calculate motor efficiency. It demonstrated that fluid properties and temperature affect pipeline head losses.

Conclusion
(Write 5 to 7 sentences to summarize your insights and learning from the experiment)

Small changes in temperature of the system do affect the properties of fluid. The fluid properties
affect the head loss in a pipeline. This happens when a change of both process fluid and temperature
occurs. Greater fluid viscosity results in greater head loss. Some fluids may require external heat tracing
to keep them at a flowing temperature. Any change in the process fluid or fluid temperature should be
properly investigated to see how it affects the pipeline head loss.
