Review the Basic Information and Recommendations on page 4, then proceed to Selection Example 1.
Selection Example 1
Step 1
Gearmotors Using the information above, choose a Load Classification from the AGMA Load Classification Tables (pages A-7~8).
Table A-4 identifies service classes based on applications and hours of operation. For Conveyors Uniformly Loaded
Procedure
Selection
Step 2
Go to the Gearmotor Selection Tables (pages A-10~21) for the correct input power and find the ratio providing the
output speed closest to the desired output speed. The closest speed to 120 RPM is 117 RPM. Match the Class to the
minimum obtained in Step 1 and make a selection. The selection is 3-1520Y-15.
Step 3
Are there any overhung or thrust loads present? If not, then proceed to Step 4. Otherwise, any overhung or thrust
loads must be checked against the capability of the selection.
The specific values for the overhung load factors, as well as a method to evaluate thrust loads, are listed on page D-5
contained in the Technical Information Section.
Step 4
Go to page 2. Select the desired mounting position and housing style from the nomenclature pages. The horizontal,
shaft mounted Hyponic Gearmotor designation is RNYM. The unit nomenclature for a shaft-mounted unit is RNYM3-
1520YA-15.
Step 5
Check environmental conditions against the Standard Specifications on page A-4. Since this application is located
inside an industrial plant, no environmental modifications are required.
Step 6
Specify desired options: 460V motor, 460-volt brake, 1-1/2 hollow bore, and a torque arm.

Review the Basic Information and Recommendations on pages 4 and 5, then proceed to Selection Example 1.
Selection Example 1
Step 1
Using the information above, choose a Load Classification in the Application Table (page B-3): Conveyors Uniformly
Loaded or Fed = U. Determine the service factor from the Service Factor Table (page B-2): Electric motor prime
mover, operating 10 hours per day, with uniform loading = 1.00 service factor.
Step 2
Multiply either the motor horsepower or demand horsepower by the service factor:
2 motor horsepower X 1.00 service factor = 2.0 selection horsepower
Step 3 Reducers
Go to the Reducer Selection Table (pages B-6 ~ 21)for the correct input speed. Find the ratio providing the output
speed closest to the desired speed. At 1750 RPM, the closest speed to 37 RPM is 35 RPM. The ratio for this speed
Procedure
Selection
is 50:1. Go down the column to a selection equal to or next closest to the selection horsepower of 2 HP. The 2.07 HP
rating for frame size 1520, having a ratio of 50:1, exceeds 2 HP.
Are there any overhung or thrust loads? For shaft mounted or direct connected units, proceed to Step 4. Otherwise,
any overhung or thrust loads must be checked against the capability of the selection.
The specific values for the overhung load factors, as well as a method to evaluate thrust loads, are listed on page D-5
in the Technical Information Section.
Step 4
Select the desired mounting position and housing style from the nomenclature on page 2. The shaft mounted
designation is RNY. The unit nomenclature is RNYJ-1520Y- 50.
Step 5
Check environmental conditions against the Standard Specifications on page B-2: inside industrial plant. No
environmental modifications required.
Step 6
Specify desired specifications and options: 145TC motor adapter, 1-1/2 hollow bore.

a. Attach the torque arm to Hyponic Drive casing on the machine side with hex socket head cap screws. (Refer to the table
below for bolt sizes.)
b. Leave some allowance in the section of torque arm so that excessive force will not be applied between Hyponic Drive and the
driven shaft. Don't secure the torque arm with the torque arm bolt; otherwise, it may damage the bolt, torque arm, Hyponic
Drive or the machine.
c. For frequent start/stop operations, or repeated normal/reverse operations, use a rubber bushing between the torque arm and
mounting bolt (or spacer) to absorb the shock.

Lubrication
Hyponic drives are filled with long-life grease and sealed, so replenishment is practically unnecessary, but overhaul in
approximately 20,000 hours or three to five years of operation will provide longer service life. The durability of oil
seals is subject to operating conditions. Under severe conditions, they may require changing in less than 20,000
hours or three years of operation. Overhaul of gearmotors must be performed at factory-authorized locations.
Rust proofing treatment is applied to all completely assembled models prior to shipment.

NRCan established the Energy Efficiency Act (EEACT) in 1992 and the Energy Efficiency Regulations
(EER) in 1995. Additional regulations were applied to gearmotors imported on November 27, 1999 or later.
The import of gearmotors that do not meet the efficiency standards has been banned.

4. Operation by Sensorless Vector Inverter
Base voltage
Some of the newest high-performance inverters are equipped with asensorless vector Output voltage (V)
operation function. Usually this function is valid only when a motor and an inverter are
operated in one-to-one correspondence. The function does not apply to multiple operation or pole-change operation. Products to which the
auto-tuning method is applied do not need adjustment as in the case of V/f operation due to automatic control of the motor char acteristics.
Vector operation is carried out on the basis of the motor data read by the inverter, and operation is controlled instantaneousl y in accordance
with the load condition to continue optimal operation.
When the wiring distance between the motor and inverter becomes long (20 m or more), compensation may be necessary according tothe
drop in the line impedance. Select sufficiently thick cables when the wiring distance is long.
