CONTRACT TEMPLATE

This document should be considered your template for drafting contract.

This is particularly important for your week 9 and week 13 submissions.

Please note that there is no official format for contracts, every law firm, practice area and jurisdiction
will have different preferences. For the purposes of assessment, consider this document to be the
desired template. You must follow it and present information in the same, consistent and logical
format.

This includes:
 Numbered paragraphs in the style of
1
1.1
a.)
i
o Do not use 5th level paragraphs (no sub, sub, sub clauses) if this occurs, consider
rewriting the paragraph to better restructure your clauses.
 Indents
o Level 1 indent - aligned at 0.63cm, left indent at 2cm
o Level 2 indent - aligned at 0.63cm, left indent at 2cm
o Level 3 indent - aligned at 2cm, left indent at 3cm
o Level 4 indent - aligned at 3cm, left indent at 4cm
 Lists
o Items in lists are ended with semi colons
o The second last item is a semi colon followed by either an ‘and’ or an ‘or’ depending
on the nature of the list
o The last item concludes with a full stop.
o If there are resuming words, the last item on the list should end with a comma, not a
full stop.
o Resuming words (words after a list) are placed after the list with no additional
numbering.
 Font
o Arial font,
o 10pt
o Level 1 headings are to be in UPPER CASE and Bold
 Line and paragraphs spacing
o Line spacing is to be 1.0
o Add 1 space after each paragraph.
Tips for setting up your document:

The template on the following page has been set up to the correct specifications for numbering style,
indent, font, and spacing. I recommend either pasting your content into this space, or using the ‘format
painter’ tool:

If you are having issues with this, you can manually set the indent requirements by using the ‘adjust
list indents’ option. Access this by right clicking on the paragraph number.

This will then allow you to adjust the indent distance for each level. In this example you can see that
level 3 is represented by the a.) and that it is aligned at 2cm and the text indent is at 3cm.
You can manually set the line and paragraphs spacing by selecting the ‘line and paragraph spacing’ option from
the home ribbon. Here, you will want to set it to 1.0 and then add/remove spaces as needed to fit the style
guide.
