(1) Give five examples each of nature having reflection symmetry and radial symmetry.

(2) Compare and contrast (a) rotation and reflection; (b) translation and rotation.
ROTATION
o A transformation that rotates or turns a figure around a fixed point is called a
center of rotation. The coordinates allow us to describe the image and its pre-
image easily. A positive angle of rotation turns the figure counterclockwise, and a
negative angle of rotation turns the figure in a clockwise direction.
REFLECTION
o Transformation across the line produces a mirror image. The line of reflection lies
directly in the middle between the figure and its image. It is the perpendicular
bisector of the segment joining any point to its image. When you reflect point
across the x-axis, the x-coordinate remains the same, but the y-coordinate is
transformed into its opposite.
When you reflect point across the y-axis, they-coordinate remains the same, but
the x-coordinate is transformed into its opposite.
TRANSLATION
o The shape or object will move left, right, up, or down. Also, you could have a
combination like up and right
ROTATION AND REFLECTION
o They are both on a coordinate plane, and they can rotate and reflect the same
shape; size remains constant, can be both in different quadrants.
TRANSLATION AND ROTATION
o It keeps the same shape, size, and exactness of the object.
(3) Which upper case letters of the English alphabet look the same after being rotated 90°? 180°?

Capital letters with rotational symmetry are: Z, S, H, N, and O. The letters Z, S, H, and N, when
rotated 180 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise, will look the same after rotation
completion.

(4) Classify the following frieze patterns based on Conway’s classification.

(1) Enumerate the first twenty Fibonacci numbers.

III. Beyond the Walls (Performance Task)

Look for patterns Inside or outside of your house then take pictures of the patterns explored using smart
phones or digital camera. Explore, take photos, make list and identify what patterns can be seen in nature inside
your house, at the garden or park nearby or any part of the neighborhood. Showcase your drawing skills by
creating original paintings or pictures, poster, photo collage or vlogs of the different patterns in nature,
Fibonacci, golden ratio or the like that you have encountered on your walk.

✓ The second pattern is an example of bedsheets or can be a wallpaper design.
✓ The third pattern is an example of blanket.
✓ The fourth pattern is an example of our cabinet.
