and its components

I. TARGET

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

 define electric circuit and electric current

 enumerate the components of a simple circuit
 describe the function of the components of a simple circuit

II. LEARNING TASK

A. TOPIC: Electric circuit and its components

SUB TOPICS: Electric current, circuit components and functions: bulb,
connecting wire, battery, switch

B. REVIEW
DIRECTION: Answer the following questions

1. The q in Coulomb's law equation stands for the _____.

2. The symbol d in Coulomb's law equation

represents the distance from (refer to the picture)___.

3. Determine the electrical force of attraction between two balloons with
separate charges of +3.5 x 10-8 C and -2.9 x 10-8 C when separated a
distance of 0.65 m.

4. Determine the electrical force of attraction between two balloons that
are charged with the opposite type of charge but the same quantity of
charge. The charge on the balloons is 6.0 x 10 -7 C and they are separated
by a distance of 0.50 m.

5. Joann has rubbed a balloon with wool to give it a charge of -1.0 x 10 -
6
 C. She then acquires a plastic golf tube with a charge of +4.0 x 10 -6 C
localized at a given position. She holds the location of charge on the
plastic golf tube a distance of 50.0 cm above the balloon. Determine the
electrical force of attraction between the golf tube and the balloon.

Key to correction

1. Quantity of charge on objects 1 and object 2

2. B to F
3. 2.16 x 10-5 N, attractive
4. 0.0130 N
5. 0.144 N

C. LESSON PROPER
1. Pre-activity

a. Discussion

2 Prepared by: BANGGA, Dionafer Date: September 5,

2013
 The teacher will ask the students the components of a circuit
based from their assignment.
 Some students will go in front to draw the symbols of those
components
 Some will give the function of those components.

b. Procedure
1. The class will be divided into groups equal to their rows.
2. Using the bulb, connecting wire and battery each row should
make the bulb lights up.
3. Then they will write what is electric circuit base on their activity.

c. Guide questions
1. When the battery was not connected to the wire, the charges
are not moving, but when it is connected the charges (electrons)
flow. What do you call this flow of charges?

2. What makes the bulb lights?

3. What is an electric circuit?

2. Activity proper

a. Performance of the activity

The students will construct a simple circuit.

b. Analysis of the guide questions

1. Electric current
2. The electric current
3. Electric circuit provides a way for electric current to flow or it
allows a continuous flow of electric charges

3. Post activity

Generalization

 Electric circuit is an electrical device that provides a path for

electrical current to flow
 Electric current is the flow of electric charges (electrons)

3 Prepared by: BANGGA, Dionafer Date: September 5,

2013
 The components of a simple circuit are bulb, connecting wire,
battery and switch.
 BULB – It receives and uses the electrical energy.

 CONNECTING WIRE – Pathway of electric current

 OPEN SWITCH- stops or cuts the electrical current to flow

 BATTERY- source of energy

 CLOSED SWITCH- it allows electrical current to continuously

flow.

4. Evaluation

DIRECTION: Answer the following questions.

1. What is electric circuit?

2. What is electric current?

3– 5. Give at least 3 components of an electric circuit and its function.

IV. ASSIGNMENT

 Describe a properly arranged circuit

 What makes a circuit improperly arranged?
