Simatic: S7-PM Project Messages V5.7
Security Information
Siemens provides products and solutions with industrial security functions that support the secure
operation of plants, systems, machines and networks.
In order to protect plants, systems, machines and networks against cyber threats, it is necessary
to implement - and continuously maintain - a holistic, state-of-the-art industrial security concept.
Siemens’ products and solutions constitute one element of such a concept.
Customers are responsible for preventing unauthorized access to their plants, systems, machines
and networks. Such systems, machines and components should only be connected to an
enterprise network or the internet if and to the extent such a connection is necessary and only
when appropriate security measures (e.g. firewalls and/or network segmentation) are in place.
For additional information on industrial security measures that may be implemented, please visit

Siemens’ products and solutions undergo continuous development to make them more secure.
Siemens strongly recommends that product updates are applied as soon as they are available
and that the latest product versions are used. Use of product versions that are no longer
supported, and failure to apply the latest updates may increase customer’s exposure to cyber
threats.

2 General Software and Hardware Requirements
Below you can see the minimum software and hardware requirements that must be met for the
installation:
Refer to the STEP 7 Readme file to find out which operating systems are supported and which
other points to consider regarding the runtime environment.
Compatibility tool
With the compatibility tool, you can put together a compatible selection of software products or
check existing configurations for compatibility. You can find the compatibility tool at:
https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/64847781
In order to work with S7-PM you need a suitable programming device or a suitable PC. There are
no special hardware requirements. Therefore, the minimum requirements specific to the operating
system apply. You can find these requirements on the appropriate Microsoft websites.
3 Installation
To ensure uninterrupted installation, you must always use the latest Microsoft Security Patches.
The use of some virus scanners (e.g. Trend Micro, Symantec, McAfee) can result in an
incomplete installation of S7-PM. It is recommended to disable them for the duration of the
installation. If further problems arise, please contact the SIMATIC Customer Support.
Caution:
Using McAfee Endpoint Security can prevent access to the database. In this case, use a different
virus scanner or add the file "dbserv9.exe" (..Program Files (x86) \ Common Files \ Siemens \
SQLANY \ dbsrv9.exe) in the McAfee firewall to the list of trusted executable files.
4 License Key of S7-PM
Before you can start working with S7-PM, you must transfer the license key to the computer.
There are two ways of doing this:
· While you are installing S7-PM, the Setup program displays a message if there is no
suitable license key installed on your computer. You can then decide whether you want
the license key to be installed by the “Setup” program or whether you want to install the
license key manually at a later time using the “Automation License Manager” program.
· If the license key cannot be installed during setup, continue the Setup program without
installing the license key. Then boot the computer and install the license key using the
taskbar in All Programs\Siemens Automation\Automation License Manager.
To operate S7-PM, you must make sure the Automation License Manager is installed.
Note
If the option package is not installed, existing projects are write-protected and can no longer be
edited. "Save as (with reorganization)" is also not possible. When opening projects, a message is
issued if the option package is missing. In this case you can only copy content from the project
that is not related to project-wide message numbers.
