SUMMARY: In this lesson, learners will practise the alphabet and numbers from 1-10, by saying and writing
letters of the alphabet, and associating it with common objects/words.
AIMS (4Cs)

Content: Alphabet and numbers.

Communication: Alphabet letters, repeating it; and structure ‘A is for…’; as well as numbers. Developing
listening skills and spelling.

Cognition: For learners to identify and recognize the letters of the alphabet and their sounds, as well as
numbers.

Culture: …

TIMETABLE FIT: This lesson is embedded in the first chapter of their Student’s Book - Welcome. After this
lesson, students will learn countries and origins.

ASSESSMENT: Teacher observation of learner understanding and participation in activities.

ASSUMPTIONS: Students may already know the alphabet and the numbers in their L1.

ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS:

- Some students may have some difficulties in the pronunciation of some letters and in finding words that
begin with each letter. The teacher will help them by repeating.
- Some activities may take longer than expected, so the teacher will have to remind students of the time.

- Students may get too noisy during activities. The teacher will have to monitor students’ behaviour.

- Students may use L1 to participate. The teacher will allow but will help them to recast it in English.

- The pronunciation of some words and structures may be a challenge for some learners, so the teacher
has to practice more with these students by repeating.
