ABSTRACT

A network topology is the physical and logical

arrangement of nodes and connections in a network.
Nodes usually include devices such as switches, routers
and software with switch and router features. Network
topologies are often represented as a graph. The term
network topology refers to the arrangements, either
physical or logical, of nodes and connections within a
network. It could be said that a topology explains how a
network is physically connected, and how the information
in the network flows logically.

INTRDUCTION
A network topology is the physical and logical
arrangement of nodes and connections in a network.
Nodes usually include devices such as switches, routers
and software with switch and router features. Network
topologies are often represented as a graph.
Physical network topology examples include star, mesh,
tree, ring, hybrid, and bus topology networks, each
consisting of different configurations of nodes and links.
Physical topology describes the layout of devices and
cables, and logical topology describes the way in which
data is transmitted within the network regardless of the
physical layout. Physical and logical topologies play an
important role in the overall performance, scalability and
security of a network.

TOPOLOGY

 The layout of connected devices on a network.

 The way in which the nodes are connected toeach
other to form a networks.
 Physical topology– actual layout of the computer
cables and other network devices
 Logical topology– the way in which the network
appears to the devices that use it. It shows how data
flows within a network.

TYPES

Network topologies can be categorized into five basic

models:
1)Bus Topology
2)Star Topology
3)Mesh Topology
4)Ring Topology
5)Tree Topology

BUS TOPOLOGY

All the devices/nodes are connected to a single

communication line called a bus. The bus serves as a
backbone that connects all the devices in the network. The
tap is connector that connects the node to a metallic core
of the bus via drop line. Tap- is the splitter that cut the
main link. Drop line- is the connection b/w the devices and
the cable This topology is used when the network is small,
simple. The bus serves as a backbone that connects all the
devices in the network.

STAR TOPOLOGY

All the nodes in the network are connected to a central

hub or switch. The hub or switch acts as a central point for
communication, and each device has a separate
connection to it. This topology is popular because it is easy
to manage, and a break in one connection does not affect
the other devices.

STAR TOPOLOGY

MESH TOPOLOGY

A mesh network is a local area network topology in which

the infrastructure nodes connect directly, dynamically and
non-hierarchically to as many other nodes as possible and
cooperate with one another to efficiently route data to and
from clients

RING TOPOLOGY

A ring network is a network topology in which each node

connects to exactly two other nodes, forming a single
continuous pathway for signals through each node – a
ring. Data travels from node to node, with each node along
the way handling every packet.

RING TOPOLOGY

TREE TOPOLOGY

A tree topology, or star-bus topology, is a hybrid network

topology in which star networks are interconnected via
bus networks. Tree networks are hierarchical, and each
node can have an arbitrary number of child nodes.

TREE TOPOLOGY

CONCLUSION
The network topology describes the network's structure
of how all components are connected to one another.
Physical topology and logical topology are the two types of
network topology.
We have seen different network topologies, such as point-
to-point topology, bus topology, star topology, ring
topology, mesh topology, tree topology, and hybrid
topology.
