Chapter 9
Chapter 9
LEARNING OBJECTIVE/ By the end of the lesson, pupils are able to successfully:
SUCCESS CRITERIA Make and verify conjectures on the relationship between the ratios of length of sides of a
triangle with the sine of the opposite angles, and hence define the sine rule.
Solve triangles involving sine rule.
LEARNING AND Teacher explains the meaning of solving a triangle: There are 6 elements (3 angles and
FACILITATION (PdPC) 3 sides) associated with a triangle. Normally when 3 elements are given, the other
3 elements can be found. Except in the case when 3 angles are given. The process of
finding the unknown angles and sides is called solving the triangle.
To solve a triangle, we need formulae and rules that have been established. A
c A b
The first one is called The Sine Rule: C
B

The Sine Rule is used to solve a triangle when a
(a) two angles and one side are given. C
(b) two sides and a non-included angle are given.
Teacher gives example of triangle where two angles

Teacher explains how to solve these equation to obtain the require answers, including the
use of calculator.
Teacher assigns exercises from the textbook.
REFLECTION ___ / ___ pupils are able to master the learning objectives and reinforcement practices.
