The Evolution and
Historical Development of
Transportation and Travel
Transportation has evolved for many decades. People went
from walking to horse riding to creating trains, ships, and
automobiles and forming tracks and roads until we have
developed planes and rockets to travel through space.
Evolution of Transportation
Evolution of Transport
In the stone age, we were only walking and riding
horses. By the time of the 3500 B.C., humans
created wagons, boats and ships. In the later
15th and 17th centuries, we built ships, trains,
and steam powered cars. During that time, we
created roads, tunnels, and railways. By the time
of the 21st century, we have developed into
creating electric cars, planes, rockets, jet skis
and many more.
Historical Development
of Transport Systems
Transport first came when the wheel was invented in the 3500 B.C. With the wheel, they
turned it into a wagon that can transport supplies much more and easier. They used
horses or mules to carry supplies and later ride with or without the carriage. And later
on, we developed into creating automobiles that later turned into 20th century cars
which are used for public transport and deliveries.
Later on they created boats and ships in order to transport goods and
supplies to other regions of the world. Ships allows people to get to one place
to another and later turned it into either a cargo ship or a cruise ship. It later
became one of the best transport in transporting materials, products, and
people.
Historical Development
of Transport Systems
Trains were developed in the 18th century as a locomotive and it involves
building railways from one location to another. Just like ships, it was both use
for carrying materials and transporting people from one place to another.
Trains nowadays are run by electricity like the bullet train.
Some factors, including the long-term growth in consumers' disposable income, the
adaptation of products to the needs of new source markets and different market
segments, increased cruise capacity in new regions, and the creation of national
cruise brands, were responsible for the rapid growth in demand for cruise tourism.
Reasons for the Decline
of Ship Travels
The Corona Crisis had a significant impact on the cruise industry, upsetting all plans, schedules, and
forecasts. Millions of cruise passengers have been affected by significant disruptions and cancellations caused
by the global coronavirus pandemic, which has wreaked havoc on the cruise industry. The confined and
enclosed environment onboard, the high rates of infection among the crew and guests, and the extensive
unfavorable media coverage all had a severe impact on the cruise industry.
Due to high infection rates among the crew and guests, the cruise industry was especially and right away
affected. With the fluctuations of global passengers, revenues will generally follow a similar pattern unless
there is a substantial shift in consumer behaviour. Usually, the most significant impacts on a travel company’s
revenues, aside from passenger flows, are an economic recession, foreign exchange, or a change in booking
trends.
Importance and Scope
of Bus/Motor Coach
Industry
Bus and coach transportation industry is often the only means of getting to work, school, care,
recreation, and tourism for many inhabitants, particularly for students, laborers, the elderly, those with
disabilities, and those with low incomes. They improve social inclusion providing access to education,
healthcare and employment to all.
A coach (also known as a coach bus, motorcoach, or parlor coach) is a type of bus built for longer-
distance service, in contrast to transit buses that are typically used within a single metropolitan region.
Often used for touring, intercity, and international bus service, coaches are also used for private charter
for various purposes.
Bus and motor coaches can bring more tourist to a
specific location to be able to support local economy.
It provides efficient and cost effective transportation
linking commuters to employment, and airports and
rail stations to the surface transportation network.
However, not all can afford their own private vehicle therefore not
affecting the tourism industry that much. Private cars actually benefits
road transportation but not air and maritime transportations unless its
privately owned. Otherwise it is very expensive to own a private aircraft
and ship.
The tourism industry will only be affected if there is a pandemic.
An example of it is the COVID-19 pandemic where owning a
private vehicle is much more safe than using public transport for
traveling.
