Introduction
In this investigation we will talk about three countries in the United Kingdom, we will
see the different cultures and traditions of England, Scotland and Wales. We will see
what makes them of a country so visited by many tourists and we will observe the
difference that there is in their cultures, we will talk a little about its history, art,
legends and the different traditions that these three countries have. The UK is one of
the most popular tourist destinations in the world, there are many reasons why many
people enjoy visiting the country, such as the natural beauty, the wonderful climate,
the outdoor recreational activities such as museums, art galleries and much more.
There are many different activities that describe the history of the country and the
qualities of the country, which are pleasing to visitors.
The United Kingdom, a unitary and sovereign state that is made up of four British
countries that are called constituent states with their own geographic and political
differences.
This state made up of the territories of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern
Ireland in the continental Europe and it does not have a single capital, each territory
has its own, England has London, as its capital, Scotland to Edimburgo, Wales
feature Cardiff and Northern Ireland to Belfast, this union is officially called The
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and has an abbreviation that is
the UK.
It is wrong for the United Kingdom to be called Great Britain or just England, there is
usually more talk about this territory because England is the main economic,
geographic and political engine of this union, but it is not the whole territory in
general. Another main problem of this is how to call to the habitants because not all
are English, each region has its own demonym. In Wales they are Welsh, in
Scotland they are Scottish and in Northern Ireland they are Northern Irish, but in
general they are all British.

Chapter l (Wales)
The country of Wales, one of the three countries that make up the United Kingdom
and it sits right on the Great Britain Island. It is divided into six citys that are: Newport
which is in the East, Swansea which is located in the west, Bangor which is in the
northwest and dominates a major island called Anglesey, St David wich is the
smallest city in the United Kingdom, St Asaph in the North West and finally there is
the capital that is the most important, the name is Cardiff and it’s on the southeast
coast. Currently it is very modern and accessible, it is also excellent for people who
want to practice English. Its docks are very lively areas of the city although in ancient
times these were very important for transporting coal.
With almost three millions people is considered a small territory. Wales has a fairly
old population in Europe that appears in history since the year sixty six BC. The
language in this country is Welsh, a Celtic language that is one of the oldest living
languages in Europe and only a very few people soeak it, that’s why they have
English as their main language. Wales is a bilingual country and currently want the
student population to reinforce the Welsh language.
This country offers local or foreign visitors the opportunity to visit all its castles that
there are six hundred fourty one in total and several of them declared as a World
Heritage Site, all ancient cities and all its museums among other attractions such as
beautiful coastlines, snowy mountains, green meadows and high cliffs, all these
open places for cultural knowledge and learning outside and inside the country, also
given it the nickname of “The Country of the Red Dragon” for the million colors that
its nature possesses and because the dragon is one of their national symbols.
Although it is said that it was not well received by the britanic ex minister Winston
Churchill who said that dragons represented malice, bad will and monstrosity and the
people of Wales were the opposite, however the population of the territory are proud
of the dragon, they said it represents courage and strength. The other two national
symbols are daffodils and leeks.
A quarter of its territory is divided into three national parks and five important areas
that house a lot of natural beauty, these are called: Pembrokeshire Coast National
Park, Snowdonia National Park which is very famous for hosting large numbers of

flocks of sheeps, it is said that the sheep population is four times the number of
habitants of this British territory, and finally the Brecon Beacons National Park. All
these parks are home to important animal species and beautiful flora. Thanks to the
nature is abundant in this country is perfect for practicing different outdoor activities
like hiking, biking, fishing and also water sports.
The most important sport in this country is the rugby and it is the Wales National
Team that represents the entire British Nation.
About the education, Wales is a nation where learning is valued and the academic
standards are very high. The education in this country is completely mandatory and
the State takes charge from the times the children are five years old until they turn
sixteen.
Wales has eight universities in total and a quarter of the university student population
is foreign because these institutions offer very good financing opportunities.

Chapter ll (Scotland)
Scotland is a country that is located in the northern part of the United Kingdom.
Despite being part of the UK, it has its own distinct culture and history. In addition to
this, the Scottish government has its own parliament and has power over certain
policy areas, such as education and healthcare. Scotland also has its own flag,
national anthem and sports teams, which are separate from the rest of the UK, in this
following presentation, we will explore these different aspects of Scotland that make
it a unique and fascinating country, which have influenced the way of life of his
people.
The scots have a strong connection to their land, and this is reflected in their
traditions, music and dances. One of the most famous Scottish cultural traditions is
the Highland Games, which is a celebration of Scottish culture and history. Games
include events such as caber toss, tug of war, and hammer throw. These events are
not just physical displays of strength, but also a way for the scots to connect with
their heritage. This system of government that Scotland has delegated was able to
tailor policies to its specific needs and has led to the development of unique policies
that differ from those of the rest of the UK. For example, Scotland has a lower
drinking age than the rest of the UK and has also implemented a ban on smoking in
public places.
Scotland has played an important role in shaping the culture and history of the
country, the country has a rugged terrain, with hills, mountains and numerous
islands. Something striking for tourists is the famous Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood
Palace and the famous Loch Ness, the latter has been the attraction of many tourists
due to the famous legend of the "Loch Ness Monster". This legend begins to emerge
around the year 1868 when an article published that year in the Inverness Courier
was the first to talk about the existence of a huge creature or fish in the depths of the
waters, years later in 1930 the Northern Chronicle newspaper published a news
headlined “A strange experience in Loch Ness” in which he told the story of two
fishermen who claimed to have seen an animal that produced a large whirlpool near
Tore Point. To date it has not been proven if the creature nicknamed "Nessi" is real
or not, this famous legend is one of the reasons why many tourists visit Scotland.

Other reasons why Scotland attracts many tourists is the previously mentioned
Edinburgh Castle, this is a historic fort found in Castle Rock. The castle has played
an important role in the country's history and has been a royal residence, military
fortress and tourist attraction throughout its existence. Thousands of visitors come to
explore the castle's various exhibits, including the scottish crown jewels and the
stone of fate. The stone of destiny is a block of sandstone that was used in the
coronation of Scottish Monarchs. The stone has been the subject of various legends
and myths, including the belief that it was the stone Jacob laid his head on in the
bible, the stone was stolen from Westminster Abbey in 1950 by a group of scottish
nationalists and returned to Scotland in 1996. Today, the Stone of destiny is on
display in the castle's crown room.
Also, Scotland is a country that is known for its unique and vibrant culture. From its
traditional clothing to its cuisine and literature, scottish culture is rich and diverse.
The scottish people are proud of their heritage, and it is evident in the way they
preserve their traditions even today.
Scottish culture is renowned for its rich history and traditions. One of the most iconic
symbols of Scottish culture is the kilt, a type of pleated skirt that is traditionally worn
by men. The kilt is made from tartan, a colorful woolen cloth that is unique to each
clan or family. Another famous symbol of Scottish culture is the bagpipe, a musical
instrument that is made from a bag and pipes. This instrument is often played at
special occasions such as weddings, funerals, and military ceremonies.
The bagpipe has three tubes of the same size, plus one that is slightly longer. The
bag is usually made of sheepskin or elk skin, and they are filled with air, which is
then pressed with the arm to push that air through the tubes. The sound of the air
coming out of the tubes is undeniable and evokes a sense of time-honored tradition
for all lovers of traditional Highland music.
Every August, the best pipers from all over the world gather in Glasgow for the world
championship. The competition lasts a week and presents the best bagpipers of the
moment. Also some legends say that the bagpipes were used in battles to generate
panic among the enemies. Scotland is a country with a great variety of culture and
traditions that remain to this day.
