CHAP3

This chapter outlines the research design, respondents, instruments, procedures, and statistical analysis used in the study. The study uses an experimental research design to test the acceptability of a new kangkong gummy candy product. Thirty-six grade 10 students will evaluate the candy using a questionnaire measuring appearance, aroma, taste, sweetness, and texture. Data will be analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and t-tests. The study was conducted ethically, ensuring informed consent, privacy, and no conflicts of interest.

A. Research Design
This study involves product development of Gummy candy incorporated with Kangkong to
measure its acceptability. The study has made used of Experimental type of research.
Experimental Research Design Involves testing or attempting to prove a hypothesis by way
of experimentation.Pollfish (2021)

B. Respondents of the Study

The respondents of this study will be the 36 random students of Grade 10 Einstein. The
Researchers used Convenience sampling since participants are selected based on availability
and willingness to take part. Grade 10 Einstein has a population of 40 students however, the
sample size consist of 36 students calculated using S’lovins formula. Convenience sampling
is a non-probability sampling method where researchers use subjects who are easy to contact
and obtain their participation. Researchers find participants in the most accessible places, and
they impose no inclusion requirements. Convenience sampling is also known as opportunity
or availability sampling.Frost (2023)

C. Research Instrument
The researchers used Sensory Evaluation questions through survey questionnaires in
determining the Acceptability of Kangkong Gummy Candy in Grade 10 Einstein Students of
Caraga State University Cabadbaran Campus. The questionnaire contains Appearance,
Aroma,taste, Sweetness, texture/Mouth-feel
The instrument is composed of four parts. Part I contains the respondent’s profile such us:
Name (Optional) and Age(Optional). Part II is the questionnaire measures the Acceptability
of Kangkong Gummy Candy to the Grade 10 Einstein students of Caraga State University
Cabadbaran Campus.
In evaluating the acceptability of the product Kangkong Gummy Candy in Grade 10 Students
of Caraga State University Cabadbaran Campus, the five-point Likert type will be considered.

D. Data Gathering Procedures

In gathering data, these were the steps followed;
Step 1: formulation of questionnaire for this study.
Step 2: wrote a critique letter to the three experts to evaluate the questionnaire.
Step 3: gather all the materials and ingredients for the development of Kangkong
Gummy Candy (Ipomea aquatica).
Step 4:distribution of the questionnaires together with the samples of the products to
the respondents
. Step 5: Tally all the data that were gathered from the respondents.
Step 6: Submission of raw data to the statistician for statistical treatment.
Step 7: Analyze and interpret the results of the data.

To facilitate the analyses of the gathered data,the following statistical tools were used;

1.Mean and Standard Deviation were used in determining the qualities of Kangkong Gummy

Candy such as Appearance, Aroma, taste, Sweetness, texture/Mouth-feel

2. T-test was used in determining the significance relation in the acceptability of Kakngkong

Gummy Candy.

F. Ethical Consideration

The researcher observed full ethical standards in the conduct of the study and followed

the study protocol assessments and standardized criteria, particularly in managing the

population and data such as, but not limited to:

Voluntary participations. All respondents are given the free-will to participate without

any form of consequence or penalty. Therefore, after the purpose and benefits of the study

was presented to the respondents, the respondents’ free-will to participate in the conduct of

the study was carefully considered and adhered upon. If at any point, participants feel

uncomfortable answering any question, they could withdraw from the survey.

Privacy and Confidentiality. The respondents’ personal and private information that

may be required in the study was kept in private and utmost confidentiality. Access to the
information was limited to individuals who actually need it for the research project. Lastly,

confidentiality agreements also took place.

Informed consent process. Respondents of the study are appropriately asked to

participate by obtaining consent which is a fundamental mechanism to ensure that respect is

afforded to individuals by providing thoughtful consent for a voluntary act. In the same

manner, the research questionnaire was not administered without the permission from the

authorized command channels.

Risk. The study was only concentrating on determining the acceptability and

marketability of Kangkong Gummy Candy. During the course of research work, data or

samples were regularly collected and stored. To ensure public trust, data protection measures

need to be developed and clearly communicated to the research participants. Properly

securing the research results until publication is critical to protect the sources of information.

Moreover, measures were taken to physically protect and secure the data and computers

storing sensitive information.

Plagiarism. Moreover, the researcher warranted that there was no trace of evidence of

misrepresentation of someone else’s work as his own. Proper acknowledgment and credit was

afforded to all contributions to the research to avoid claims of plagiarism or irregularity. To

make this certain, the use of Turnitin software and/ or plagiarism detector was employed.

Fabrication. Results in the study was not presented in a way that take the findings out of

context, deceive readers, exaggerate claims or focus on smaller parts of the observation

without putting them into perspective.

Falsification. Furthermore, questions in the survey were not presented in a manner that it

tends to twist or distort the results or force a certain outcome.

Conflict of Interest. Similarly, there was no trace of conflict of interest (COI) be

evident on this study. Affiliations with research sponsors including direct and indirect

financial support as well as conflicts of interest were disclosed in order to establish

transparency.

Deceit. In an essence that the falsehood about the author’s identity and the nature and

true purpose of the study should be avoided, this research did not perform any deceptions.

Full disclosure of all elements relevant to respondents’ participation were also exercised. This

is to avoid misdirection or false information about some aspects of the research, whether in

the procedures or the purpose.

Authorship. The authorship of this research endeavor should accurately reflect

individuals’ contributions to the work and its reporting. Hence, the author explicitly signified

sufficient participation in the study and took full responsibility and accountability of its

content.
