ORIENTATION AND TRAINING ON CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION PROGRAM

(BANTAY KALIKASAN EXPANDED CLEAN AND GREEN PROGRAM)
May 15, 2019
(Barangays Cogon, Aplaya and Lungag)

The margin of survival depends on a good preparation. Mitigation measures are

activities and projects that are dedicated to the alleviation of the effects of any disasters
or emergencies. These keep the impact of any eventualities lesser. It is now very
momentous for the City Government of Digos to intensify its mitigation efforts by coming
up with relevant projects, programs and activities.

The issue of climate change has existed for several years now, scientific
experiment and studies revealed that our planet is starting to heat up because of
damaging chemicals that are being released in the atmosphere every day. There is
now a global concern to arrest the effects of climate change. Series of forums,
conventions and other gathering by leaders of the world are being made to make an
effort to minimize the devastating effect of the said phenomena. The Philippines has
been one of the many countries that support the effort in combating climate change.
Directives from the national government are circulated to local government units to
devise climate change plans and implement such with utmost priority. The City of
Digos through the Honorable Mayor Atty. Joseph R. Peñas, CPA is one of the many
LGU leaders who are concerned of the issue of climate change. One of his concern
and agendum is how to help in the holistic approach of minimizing the effect of climate
change especially in the city of Digos. It is his priority that measures are to be taken to
make our community adapt to the ever changing climate. This is why a Climate Change
Adaptation Program (Bantay Kalikasan Expanded Clean and Green Program) is
conceptualized.

A significant series of seminar on Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) were the

objective of this seminar is for the constituents in different barangays to be aware of
how important to arrest the effect of climate change, it is of vital importance for them to
understand the big difference they could make if they are able to contribute by just
doing simple things like tree planting/growing, garbage segregation and coastal
cleanup. Stressed during the seminar was the importance of how we will be able to
make use of our resources to prevent further damage to nature and the environment,
they further discussed why we need to be vigilant as to be able to adapt to the ever
changing climate. Technical aspects of reforestation and tree planting are introduced as
well as how to identify suitable tree species for every area where reforestation and tree
planting activities will be conducted.
