LESSON 1: ACTIVITY 1

TAKE ACTION:

1. Examine the k to 12 Base Education Curriculum. Identify the different learning areas,

subjects and course included in the curriculum.

• The learning areas are: Languages, Literature, Communication, Mathematics, Philosophy,

Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. The subjects in grade 10, 11 and 12 ore Mother Tongue,

Filipino, English, Mathematic, Science, Araling Panlipunan, Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (EsP),

Music, Art, Physical Education, Health, Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan (EPP),

Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE). Oral comunication, Reading and writing,

Komunikasyon at pananaliksik sa wika at kulturang Filipino, 21st century literature from the

Philippines and the world, Contemporary Philippine arts from the regions, Media and

information literacy, General mathematics, Statistics and probability, Earth and life science,

Physical science, Introduction to philosophy of the human person/Pambungad sa pilosopiya ng

tao, Physical education and health, Personal development/pansariling kaunlaran, Earth science

(instead of Earth and life science for those in the STEM strand), Disaster readiness and risk

reduction (taken instead of Physical science for those in the STEM strand). In applied track

subject, English for academic and professional purposes, Practical research 1, Practical research

2, Empowerment technologies (for the strand), Entrepreneurship, Inquiries, investigatories, and

immersion included while in specialized subject there are Accountancy, business, and and

management strand, Humanities and social sciences strand, Science, technology, engineering,

and mathematics strand and General academic strand are included. The course Curriculum are
Academic; Technical-Vocational-Livelihood; and Sports and Arts. The Academic track includes

three strands: Business, Accountancy, Management (BAM); Humanities, Education, Social

Sciences (HESS); and Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM).

2. Identify different skills, processes, values and concepts that the important to learn in

each subject

• The 21st century learning skills are often called the 4 C’s: critical thinking, creative

thinking, communicating, and collaborating. These skills help students learn by the

different subjects. In Grade 10 to demonstrate communicative competence; think

intelligently, critically and creatively in life situations; make informed and values-based

decisions; perform their civic duties; use resources sustainably; and participate actively in

artistic and cultural activities and in the promotion of wellness and lifelong fitness. In

Integrated, Arts, Mother tongue, Filipino and English the student Focused on the

development of literacy and numeracy skills and learning of concepts first in the Mother

Tongue from Grades 1-3 and later transfer to second language (Filipino and English) The

macro skills - listening, speaking, reading, writing and viewing spiral across grade levels

and across languages. The ultimate goal is communicative competence both oral and

written in three languages. Science education aims to develop scientific literacy among

students that will prepare them to be informed and participative citizens.

SELF- CHECK:

1. Identify different social issues, needs and demands that should be considered in the

curriculum.

• Classroom racism, Ethnic issues, Unequal Opportunity, Gender issue, Economy issue,

Culture issue and Substance abuse.

2. Identify learners needs and issues that should be considered in Curriculum

development.

• Their current physical, social, intellectual, and emotional development, the classroom

and school environment and the special nature of their communities.


REFLECTION

Discuss, in not less than 5 sentences, how learners’ needs, learning and thinking styles and

issues are considered in the curriculum specifically in the following curriculum

elements:

- Aims, goals and objectives

- Contents

- Learning experiences

- Evaluation

• The Aims, goals and objectives are important in the learners needs because it will

help them to know the aims of the curriculum to all the learners. We all know that

Curriculum is very important aspect specially in every school. A fit curriculum

that all the teachers and learners can connect. Having a good Curriculum it helps

the teacher to know the strategy they can use in teaching in order for have a

effective and efficient flow of learning. Those Curriculum elements should

properly use in a manner which the student can easily understand what they

teacher teach because learning style is depends on what stated in the curriculum.

This is how learners needs, Teaching style and issues in considering a

Curriculum.

• My own understanding about my school vision, mission and core values is

this three concepts focus on the main goal on how the learners can learn holistically by

the help of the school and to achieve the demands of the society. The mission says that

The PSU through their instruction, research and production they must needs to commit to

develop an individual who is capable to meet the needs of this demands society and because of

the PSU vision that in 2021 it will become the ANSEAN premier state University. By the help

also of the core values .

2. How are your school’s vision, mission and core values reflected in your lessons and

school activities?

• In a way of the lessons and School activities also connected on what the school

vision , mission and core values says. By doing those activities it will help us to be more

productive learners that can think critically and learning those lessons helps the learners to widen

their knowledge about the topic.

and core values to the needs of the learners and the demands of the society?

• A Vision is important in school because it will provide the focus of the development of

the school. It is important to the learners because in this vision, it will help them to know

how they are after doing their task. On the other hand the mission is relevant to the needs
of the learners and the demands of the society because it focus on what the school task

that will meet the needs of the individual learners. The mission of the school is important

because it will serve they tool to know what or how they do in order for the learners

needs and to meet the needs of the society. The core values of the school is the standards,

qualities and characters that the students should meet. To be able to be a better individual

of this society. This core values is relevant to meet the learners needs because it will help

them to be a productive individual. And after a productive individual they can give what

the demands of this society. Developing the vision, mission and core values are the three

important things in order to have a successful program. Understanding those three

statements can help the staffs or other personnel of the school to align what the values of

the school.
