"What do you want to be when you grow up?" is a question most students have likely heard and
thought about for a long time. But have you really thought about what this question means for you,
personally? How would this question affect your life now; the decisions you make, the future you’ll
create?

A. CONNECT (2 mins)

Good day PHINMAEd students! How is your learning experience so far? I hope
all of you are doing great!

If someone walked up to you and asked, “Who is your role model?” What
would you say? Does anyone even come to mind? For most of us, a way we can
envision this future for ourselves is to look to our role models — people who have
gone through similar things and succeeded. For today’s session, we will look at the
life and success stories of some of our fellow students/alumni. These role models act
as guides to help you understand who you would like to become in the future. By
understanding what they did in the past, with similar circumstances, we can
hopefully gain a better understanding of what we need to do to gain a similar — or
better — future.

"Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.

-Zig Ziglar

College education is not cheap. Not everyone is privileged enough to be able to go to college and
study. When I was about to graduate senior high school, I applied for different scholarships to help
lighten the burden of my parents in sending me to college, especially that my family is not that well-off
financially. I am so grateful that I was chosen to be one of the recipients of the PHINMA scholarship.

College life is like a roller coaster ride. It has its ups and downs. In my first year of college, I was
disappointed in myself to have a failing grade in one of my subjects during the prelims. I was so afraid
that I might lose my scholarship because of this failure. That failure taught me to do better. That
experience made me desire to improve my attitude towards my studies and to do my best to excel
everyday. Throughout my 4 years experience of being a pharmacy student, there are times that I still do
commit mistakes and fail but I really hoped to be successful in my chosen profession, that is why I still
choose to move forward.

In my 3rd year as a pharmacy student, I was appointed to be a student leader in my department.

It was really difficult for me, especially that it was the start of the pandemic and lockdown. I also had a
difficult time in my studies, especially that I am not tech savvy and I only use my phone in most of my
classes. My 4th year in college was the most devastating and difficult year. At the start of our first
semester, my father passed away because of covid. It really broke my heart to lose my father before I
was even able to finish my college education, especially that my father is my inspiration and it is my
desire for him to see me succeed. I constantly had breakdowns and was mentally unstable. My academic
performance really went down. My faith was shaken and it was difficult for me to go on. Even though my
father is not around anymore, I still want him to be proud of me. I still wanted to achieve the dream I
have for me and for my family. Along the way, my family and pharmily helped

me to slowly get back up on my feet again. Slowly, I tried my best to study again. Slowly, I tried my best to
be active in serving the pharmacy and SWU Phinma student body as a student leader. I was able to meet
new people and I am grateful to be able to serve the students, despite the calamities that we have
experienced. One of those life changing times for me is when I was able to volunteer in a relief operation
for the students and families affected by the Typhoon Odette. Serving the student body gave me a new
reason to move forward, in hopes that one day, I may be successful and be able to help other people as
well.

I am grateful that despite the challenges that I have faced in my college life, I am now finally on
my last semester as a Pharmacy student to this day. I am grateful for my family and the people who
supported me along the way. Maybe the moment you have read this, I have already graduated from
college. Surely all of us have different experiences in our lives that made us who we are today.
Sometimes these experiences make us want to stop and give up. But I hope you’ll choose to go on and
chase after your dreams no matter how difficult the road is. I hope you’ll still look forward to what you
are capable of and what you’ll be in the future. Don’t forget to appreciate the people who have been with
you through your journey. Surely, you’ll reach the beautiful destination you desire.

her I also went into different universities for scholarships. We are not not that well-off financially. But
because of Hawak Kamay Scholarship I got the slot to be one of there scholar and Im very grateful.

2. What’s your biggest takeaway from his/her experience?

>I believe that everybody has different story in life. Even if we failed in life but not does the case, we
stood up face the obstacles in life, move forward, be motivated , have passion because everything we do
will be paid off as long you have perseverance, have faith in yourself everything will follow and be the
best version of yourself.
