Forests and Governance The Center for International Forestry Research advances human wellbeing, environmental conservation and equity by conducting research to inform policies and practices that affect forests in developing countries. We are one of 15 centres within the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Our headquarters are in Bogor, Indonesia, and we have offices in Asia, Africa and South America. CIFOR is looking for a Research Officer for its Forests and Governance Programme. Two of CIFORs six strategic research areas focus on enhancing the role of forests in mitigating and adapting to climate change. The Research Officer will be part of the Forests and Governance Programme and support scientists working in climate change mitigation. Duties and responsibilities 1. Participate in research as part of the project Global Comparative Study of REDD+(GCS): Participate in fieldwork as required; Maintain appropriate communications with key stakeholders and partners as requested by the GCS project manager. These may include local and national government agencies, environmental and development organisations, social advocacy NGOs, private companies and donor organisations; Maintain databases, mainly in Microsoft Access related to the project; Oversee the development of a database containing the data obtained from interviews and surveys in association with GCS; Contribute to data analysis (Qualitative Comparative Analysis, Network Analysis with UCINET, NVIVIO), including analysis of individual country case studies and global comparative analysis; Assist in literature review, data analysis, and other tasks supporting research; Assist with the preparation and publication of research results and reports; Assist in other research activities as required. 2. Provide project management assistance to: Support coordination of one component addressing national strategies and policy process of the GCS; Assist in organising workshops, fieldwork and training of and knowledge sharing with partners; Other duties as required by the project. 3. Support coordinated work with other related research, including coordinating activities, meetings and discussions. Details of duties, assignments and objectives will be further discussed and laid out in the staffs annual performance contract.

Requirements Education, experience and technical skills Masters degree is preferred, in political science, social science or other related discipline; Knowledge in climate change mitigation, REDD+, forest management or natural resource management or forest management; Knowledge in network and text analysis; Excellent written and spoken English; Good computer skills especially in database applications, such as Access or similar databases. Competencies Effective at personal organization and managing multiple priorities with the ability to work under time pressure, Have initiative and capable of working independently as well as an effective team player. Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with people in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. Experience working with a wide and diverse network of groups and individuals.

Terms and conditions This is a nationally recruited position. CIFOR offers a competitive remuneration commensurate with skills and experience. The initial appointment will be for 2 years starting as soon as possible and including the standard 6month probationary period, with possible extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources.
