What skills will students develop through Cambridge International AS and A Level study?
Ability to study, work and communicate in English. In-depth subject knowledge and understanding. An ability to apply knowledge and understanding to familiar and new situations. An ability to handle and evaluate different types and sources of information. An ability to think logically and to present ordered and coherent arguments. An ability to make judgements, recommendations and decisions. An ability to present reasoned explanations, understand implications and communicate them in a clear and logical manner.

Assessment options
Cambridge International AS and A Level examination sessions occur twice a year, in June and November, with results issued in August and January respectively. Some subjects are only available in June or November. Cambridge International AS and A Level uses a wide range of assessment processes and techniques to supplement written examinations orals, practicals, projects and coursework are all used in various subjects where they are the best means of measuring attainment.
Cambridge International AS Level means a wider range of assessment options. Students can choose to: Take all papers of the Cambridge International A Level course in the same examination session, usually at the end of the second year of study. Follow a staged assessment route by taking the Cambridge International AS Level in one examination session and completing the final Cambridge International A Level assessments in a subsequent session. However, the staged assessment route is not possible for all subjects e.g. languages. Take the Cambridge International AS Level course only, either at the end of a one-or-two year course the AS syllabus content represents half of an A Level programme.
Reporting of achievement
Each subject that a Cambridge student takes at AS and A Level receives a separate grade and a separate certificate. Cambridge International A Level is reported on a grade scale from A* grade, awarded for the highest level of achievement, to E, indicating the minimum required performance. There is no A* grading in the certification of Cambridge International AS Levels, which will continue to run from Grade A to Grade E.
Performance feedback
Cambridge International AS Level provides valuable feedback on performance, identifying strengths and weaknesses prior to any final assessment. Taking the Cambridge International AS Level examination part-way through the Cambridge International A Level course provides feedback that students can use to set learning goals for the second half of the course. It can also provide students with the motivation and momentum to complete their programme of study.
Cambridge English
Cambridge International AS Level English Language is for students who can already communicate effectively in English. The syllabus enables students to achieve greater fluency, accuracy and confidence in the language as it is spoken and written. Cambridge International AS and A Level Literature in English students critically analyse a range of texts in the three main forms: prose, poetry and drama, from a wide range of different periods and cultures.
Cambridge Mathematics
Cambridge International AS and A Level Mathematics builds on the skills acquired at IGCSE or equivalent level. The syllabus allows schools flexibility to choose from three different routes to AS Level Mathematics: Pure Mathematics only, or Pure Mathematics and Mechanics, or Pure Mathematics and Probability and Statistics. Centres can choose from three different routes to A Level Mathematics depending on the choice of Mechanics, or Probability and Statistics, or both, in the broad area of applications.
Cambridge Science
Biology, Chemistry and Physics are available at Cambridge International AS and A Level. They focus on the understanding of concepts and the application of scientific ideas in novel contexts. The syllabuses develop creative thinking and problem-solving skills which are transferable to any future career path. International AS and A Level is ideal for students who want to study Biology, Chemistry or Physics or related subjects at university, or to follow a career in science.
