To whom it may concern,

My name is Manuel Eduardo Salinas Ayala, my chinese name is 安名維. I was born in 1983, Asunción,
Paraguay, one of the oldest cities in South America and the longest continually inhabited area in the Río
de la Plata Basin; for this reason it is known as "the Mother of Cities". Before i came to Taiwan, i was
working in the real state field selling houses and doing house appraisals.

I'm an active Visual Artist with almost 20 years of experience in the field, accomplishing more than 10
solo and group art exhibitions and participating in many nationwide contests, 2 of which i receive
"Honorable Mention" in my country, and one international art group exhibiton in 2008 called “Visual
Encounters with Paraguay: Celebrating 40 Years of Kansas-Paraguay Partnership.” in the USA. All of this
endeavors made me learn and appreciate about different cultures around the world and their
perspectives of life.

I have been studying chinese at the Chinese Language Center at NCKU, National Cheng Kung University
in Tainan for around 4 months. The main reason and motivation to study chinese for me was to expand
my understanding of the rich legacy of the language and the culture. Since i was a young artist, i
developed an admiration for asian philosophy, and the root of this philosophy always led me to the
ancient chinese. Now that i am learning more about it, thanks to the excellent teachers i have met at
Chinese Language Center, my admiration for the language and the culture is increasing exponentially,
and having a deep impact on my self.

I am determined to keep studying in the Chinese Language Center at NCKU, National Cheng Kung
University in Tainan for various reasons:

The center has outstanding teachers, who are capable of teaching every level of student, making them
reach their objective. The infrastructure of the center is ideal to have a wonderful experience, while
growing on the personal level, throught exchange with other students. The center also provides the
students with chinese culture classes, such as Chinese Painting, Chinese Callygraphy and Chinese
Character, all of which i want to explore eventually.

Is an exceptional place to meet people with similar interest in learning about chinese culture and create
lasting bonds. Besides this, the CLC at NCKU is constantly engaging the students in activities around
Taiwan, making us experience this great country.

After the end of the Spring Quarter, we were presented with other degree programs offered by the
National Cheng Kung University, which is one of the most distinguished Universities in Taiwan. This led
me to take the opportunity to apply next year for a degree in the Department of Foreign Languages &
Literature, where i want to study to become an english teacher and teach english in Taiwan, while i
continue learning about the chinese language and culture. This will also allow me to contribute to the
education of the taiwanese youth, giving back some of the valuable knowledge i am gratefully receiving
today.
This course at the CLC in NCKU is the bedrock to achieve greater purposes in life. I will be thankful if i
could get a resident visa to stay in Taiwan to study chinese, as it is a very important stride in my personal
growth.

Best regards,

Manuel Eduardo Salinas Ayala, 安名維
