NetworkTopology SDLP-2

The document outlines a lesson plan for teaching students about network topology. It defines network topology as the configuration or arrangement of how nodes and links connect in a network. The lesson will discuss the different types of physical and logical network topologies and factors to consider when choosing a topology, such as cable length, type, cost and scalability. Students will be asked to identify network components and complete an assignment researching types of network topologies. The goal is for students to understand the importance of network topology for technology-related fields.

D. Discussion

What Is Network Topology?

The configuration, or topology, of a network is key to determining its performance.

Network topology is the way a network is arranged, including the physical or logical description of how
links and nodes are set up to relate to each other.

What are the Links and Nodes?

Nodes are the network participants.

Links are the connections between nodes or groups of nodes in a network.

There are numerous ways a network can be arranged, all with different pros and cons, and some are more
useful in certain circumstances than others.

Admins have a range of options when it comes to choosing a network topology, and this decision must
account for the size and scale of their business, its goals, and budget.

There are two approaches to network topology: physical and logical.

Physical network topology - refers to the physical connections and interconnections between nodes and
the network—the wires, cables, and so forth.
Logical network topology is a little more abstract and strategic, referring to the conceptual
understanding of how and why the network is arranged the way it is, and how data moves through it.

Why Is Network Topology Important?

A streamlined and properly managed network topology can increase energy and data efficiency, which
can in turn help to reduce operational and maintenance costs.

Which Topology Is Best for Your Network?

key elements to consider:
• Length of cable needed
• Cable type
• Cost
• Scalability

E. Application

Ask the students their own insights about the Network Toplogy, and the importance of learning about the
topic on a crosswise paper.
F. Generalization

It is important for every student to learn the said topic because, it will be a good thing acquiring the
knowledge from the topic especially if they’re about to pursue an ICT related course. Since we’re on the
technology era, it will be an advantage acquiring knowledge this early.

G. Evaluation
Get one fourth sheet of paper. Identify and answer each question after the statement.

1. These are the network participants. __________

2. These are the connections between nodes or groups of nodes in a network. ______________
3. These cables are cost-effective but have less bandwidth. _____________
4. High-performance cable but expensive. _______________
5. There are two approaches to network topology: _______________

H. Assignment
Have an advance research about the TYPES OF TOPOLOGIES.
