Freuds psychosexual theory and Erickson's theory are two well known
theories of development. Freud believe that fixation occurs in one stage, the
problems occur associated with that stage would be permanent. But then
Erickson's claims that the outcome of a particular stage is temporary and can be
altered by experience in later years. Unlike freuds psychosexual approach,
Erickson's psychosexual stage theory took a more expensive view of
development, encompassing childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. While
Freud believe that development was largely completely fairly early on, Erickson
felt that it was a process that continued throughout the entire course of
person's life. Yet, despite of their differences from their theories. They also also
share a number of important similiraties to child's development. Both stressed
the importance of social experiences and recognize the role that childhood
plays in shaping adult personality.
