Introduction: A healthcare facility should be ideally an organization that can cater to

health emergencies in real-time. A facility that would only take a few minutes from
where the patient is. A healthcare facility with an on-call physician or a doctor that
arrives on time in order to look after the patients.
All of them have one thing in common. An ideal and an appropriate location. An ideal
location is very important when it comes to setting up an expanding the medical practice
in a successful manner.
The importance of location in health care systems: When an organization or a group of
stakeholders decide to build or expand their healthcare facility, location would impact
each and every aspect of its operations.
Concept and Application: Here are some reasons why it is very important to
choose a correct location;
It influences the patient as well as customer visibility: Visibility is important for all
the hospitals and outpatient facilities. If the potential patients are facing any issues or
challenges, they would prefer being treated somewhere else. If these customers cannot
find the hospital, a hospital cannot expect any growth in the business.
Establishment in a high-traffic location would usually receive more success as
compared to the ones that are built in secluded sites.
If affects the accessibility of the healthcare set up: The accessibility of the location
is important. It would impact not only the number of the patients, customers and
employees, but also the deliveries that the hospital would receive and the business
partnerships that they would acquire.
Accessibility also involves having adequate space for parking and for the visitor’s area
too. Any space inadequacy often poses a huge backlash in the operations of the
business.
It impacts the operating cost: The operational cost of the business would vary as per
the different locations of the healthcare organization.
Rent in areas of high-traffic is high as compared to the rural premises. State as
well as local taxes would also add to the costs of operations.

It decides the options of manpower: To choose a location with a sufficient number of

medical professionals must be considering the process of decision-making.

If there are not enough medical practitioners that are qualified enough to work for the
hospital set up, the organization may experience issues of short-staffing with the
problems of location.
State regulations and the laws that one needs to follow: Each state consist of
different healthcare codes, regulations as well as laws. Some may or may not be
favorable enough to a hospital setup. It is important to ensure that the health care
organization considers this factor also in the process of site selection in order to ensure
that they can comply with all the required legal considerations.

Following criteria needs to be fulfilled when deciding the location for a hospital setup

Healthcare facility type: Understanding the demand of the facility the individual is
managing is important when a sound decision is to be taken for setting up of a
healthcare organization.

High-traffic areas are perfect when it comes to hospital facilities.

Patients nowadays have a wide array of health care choices. Some types of medical
facilities may not be as in-demand to the population of a certain area.

High-traffic areas are perfect for hospital facilities. Hospitals are essential in both
urban and rural areas. Since a healthcare facility is into providing short-term care for the
patients with acute chronic health issues occurred because of the injuries, diseases or
genetic anomalies. Hospitals often bring together highly-skilled physicians having
different specialties, nursing staff, medical technicians, health administrators, and
specialized equipment.

Usually, hospitals are located everywhere, from urban cities to regional sites in the rural
areas. Depending on the kind of diagnosis, a hospital would refer a patient to another
facility of healthcare setup, for instance an outpatient clinic.

Public Utilities: There are many more important considerations when it comes to site
selection, and these are the availability of water supply, electric power and system of
sewage disposal.

An organization may also want to evaluate the site on the basis of how quickly it would
be able to complete the development and open its doors. Perhaps, the organization
wishes to serve a new area quickly or perhaps, it cannot simply wait any long for the
new additional space.

When the speed is important, the healthcare organization or its development partner
may often narrow the site search in order to include only those properties that have
been ready to be developed in a hospital setup. So, that implies that the properties that
are of the right size, consists of proper zoning and no restrictions, enabling the
development to start without a process of extended approval or a zoning code that is
time-consuming or varies too much.

Need for electric power is at least 1KW on a per bed on a daily basis. This involves the
needs of all the departments and services that involves the power requirement of X-ray
department, theatres of operations, laboratories, department of central sterile supply,
laundry as well as kitchen. .

A hospital with many systems of life-support often are unable to remain without power
even for a short span of time.

It is preferred that power supply must be available on a multigrid instead of the unigrid
system in general use, and so, a constant electricity supply is ensured to the hospital at
all times.

Land Requirements: Economy, functional utility and ease of operations must be the
guiding factors. With modern methods of construction, buildings often rise very high,
however, there are limiting factors too, e.g. cost of building methods, planning bye laws,
need to allow for expansion, etc.

Conclusion: So, it can be concluded that the location criteria of a hospital setup needs
to be decided after evaluation of many factors such as the customer visibility, ease of
access to the hospital, operating cost, rent, availability of skilled and well-qualified
manpower, state regulations and the laws, Healthcare facility type, public utilities, land
requirements that involve the functional utility and ease of operations.

Introduction: Plant Layout refers to an overall arrangement of the process of

production, store-room, stock-room, equipment of material handling, aisles, racks as
well as sub-stores, services of employee and other accessories that are needed in order
to ensure facilitation of the production that is done in the factory.

It would encompass the facilities of production and service, and provide for the most
effective and efficient utilization of the men, materials as well as machines.

Concept and Application: This kind of layout is not really important for the
manufacturing industries of today’s times. In this kind of a layout, a major component of
the plant would remain in a fixed position, other materials, parts, tools, machinery,
manpower and other equipment that support are brought to this location.

The major component or body of the product would remain in a fixed position as it is too
heavy or too big. So, it becomes economical to bring the important tools and equipment
to workplace along with the manpower. This kind of layout is used in manufacturing
boilers, hydraulic and steam turbines as well as ships.

Process Layout is found mainly in job shops, or organizations that would produce
customized, products of low-volume that may need different requirements of processing
as well as sequencing of operations. The process layouts refer to facility configurations
where the operations of similar nature or function have been grouped together.

As such, they would occasionally be known as a functional layout. Their purpose is to

ensure that the goods are processed and the ensure that services are provided that
involve various processing requirements. A manufacturing example would be that of a
machine shop. A machine shop would usually have separate departments where the
general-purpose machines would be grouped together by function.

So, the facilities that get configured as per the functions of the individuals or the
different processes have a process layout. This kind of a layout would give the
organization a flexibility required in order to handle various routes as well as process
requirements. Service organizations that make use of the process layout are
restaurants, banks, auto repair and universities.

Combination Layout: Many situations often call for combination of different layouts.
These are known as hybrid layouts. For instance, one organization may use a process
layout for most of its process along with an assembly one area. Alternatively, an
organization may make use of a fixed-position layout for the assembling of its final
product, but make use of a fixed-position layout for assembling its final product, but
makes use of assembly lines in order to produce the components and subassemblies
that manufacture the final product. For instance, an aircraft makes use of a hybrid
layout.
Cellular Layout: It is a kind of layout where the machines can be grouped as per the
needs of the process for a set of similar items that need processing that is similar.
These groups are known as cells. So, a cellular layout is an equipment layout that is
configured to support cellular manufacturing of products.

For a restaurant, an assembly line setup is the most suitable. In an assembly line, the
preparation of food would start from one end and the finished dishes end at the other.
Typically, there refers a central row or island where all the ingredients and work area is
organized in a single line.

This layout would focus on the assembly of each dish.

The kitchen equipment would be organized in line with the area of food preparation and
the service area at the other. Whether the starting of the workflow is situated in the left
or right would depend on the available space the person as for the customers to form a
line, get their food and exit in a smooth manner. Without bumping into other consumers.
The workflow would begin in the area of preparation, where the ingredients are handled
and assembled for cooking.

The action would then move on to the area of cooking, and afterwards, it would be
plated or packaged in the area of service for handing over. Since there is less need for
movement as the kitchen team would transition from one station to another, the food is
possible to be quickly sent down the line. To save more space, sometimes equipment is
also linked together.

The washing as well as storage/receiving areas should be located behind the assembly
line for sanitary and aesthetic reasons. The restaurant doesn’t want any washing area
that is close to the area of preparation of food, and the customers would rather not want
to see dirty dishes near the area where food is cooked.

Since customers have a good and a pleasant view of the entire action, it is challenging
to work where it makes it easy for the people to comment on how their food has been
prepared.

When the restaurant has this kind of layout, they can make sure that the kitchen team
would comply with strict sanitary procedures. Whether it would call for a frequent
handwashing or make use of disposal gloves or implementation of routine hygienic
cleanup of the station, it is important to make the consumers see how the restaurant
takes health and food safety in a serious manner.

Conclusion: An assembly line kitchen layout is precisely about that, assembly. It is a

linear approach when it comes to preparation of food and hand it over to the customer
in a quick manner. An efficient restaurant layout and the flow of work can make a huge
difference to the quality of the food and service that the restaurant is providing along
with ensuring that the staff is taken care off.
