Chapter 2

The document discusses several studies related to developing computerized library management systems for schools. It describes a study by Mayo (2016) that developed an online library system for public high schools. It also discusses systems created by Doble (2012) for a community college library and Dellosa and Hermedes (2014) for a university library that automated borrowing/returning books and tracked usage. Finally, it mentions how QR codes can be used to provide digital access to library materials.

CHAPTER 2

REVIEW OF THE RELATED LITERATURE

Managing Student Library

A school's educational level is bolstered by the expansion of its library

(Doble, 2012). As a result, prioritizing the library and library services, particularly

for academic institutions, is a top priority. A library is more than a collection of

books; it is a repository of knowledge and ideas, a place for learning and

investigation, as well as the invention of new ideas and knowledge (NKC, 2007).

This research should encourage pupils to read, learn, inquire, and come up with

fresh ideas.

Public High Schools Online Library System

Mayo (2016) conducted a study on the status of public high schools’

library

and developed a web-based system entitled Public High Schools Online Library

System (PHOLS). In her study, she emphasized the need for computerization of

public high school library processes and services. The study includes

computerization of borrowing and returning of reading materials, tracking of

reading materials usage and availability, monitoring of user’s overdue books and
11

reading materials borrowed by users, and generating of reports. The researcher

believed that the study is beneficial for the enhancement of the public high.

Computerized Library System

Doble (2012) developed a Computerized Library System for Botolan

Community College, Zambales to address the traditional system of lending and

returning books, cataloging, and generating of reports. With these problems, the

researcher, using the SDLC Waterfall model developed a computerized library

system that stores student’s records such as student’s basic information, book

records, list of borrowers, returned books, and borrowed books. This study has

been found beneficial to the library, librarian, and students.

User Monitoring System in LPU-Laguna Library

For the LPU-Laguna Library, Dellosa and Hermedes (2014) created a

User Monitoring System. The problem of the library at the Lyceum of the

Philippines-Laguna was investigated in this study. This school was still

employing the old system of recording attendance in the library using a logbook.

As a result, students frequently forget to sign the logbook, and librarians have

difficulty estimating library usage figures. As a result of this issue, the researchers

devised a plan to create a computer software that would track library patrons'

attendance using radio frequency identification, or RFID. A To build and operate

the system, a radio frequency (RF) reader, RF tag, web camera, and computer

were used.

Propagation of QR Code System Application

Technology has advanced at a rate that we could never have predicted in

recent years. New technical concepts that are smarter, more imaginative, and

more inexpensive appear almost every year (Lamey, 2018). With all of these

technical advancements, it's no surprise that Is there any way we could use the

materials we have or have access to into our educational strategies? Our kids have

always believed in this concept in the educational setting. Students nowadays can

be considered digital natives. Teachers are termed digital immigrants because

they were not born into the digital part of the new technology. They have already

been exposed to cutting-edge technology such as computers, video games, and the

internet (Santisteban, 2017). QR codes are two-dimensional matrix barcodes that

may be scanned with a smartphone to gain access to digital information. With the

introduction of smart phones, the commercial and business use of QR codes grew

steadily during the last decade and mobile phones with internet access (Shettar,

2016).
