THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

This chapter includes the introduction. Background of the study, Problem and
the statement, Objectives. Theoretical and Conceptual paradigm, Research postulates,
Scope and limitation of the studies, and the explication of terms.

Introduction

The computer lab is undoubtedly a component of the institution, just like the
schools and universities. Because many tasks rely on computers to analyze data
quickly, including document creation, data computation, and many other tasks. In
practically every course offered at schools, students can learn about computers.

One of the most valuable things in the computer laboratory is management,

using the right management software enables the computer laboratory to more
accurately monitor the status of the computers and let the professor know who is
using the specific computer. Understanding how computer laboratory management
system works can greatly affect the efficiency of manual reporting in-terms of
computer status and student usage.

As the researcher conducted an interview the respondent which talks about

how he is using is a manual form of encoding which takes a long time and work to do
so we devise a plan to make a computer management system to make the life easier
in-terms of records and etc.

Explication of Terms
The following are the key terminologies defined that can help readers
understand more about the research study and for the purpose of understanding, the
following definition and terms used in the research study.

Computer. A computer is a machine or device that performs processes,

calculations and operations based on instructions provided by a software or hardware
program. It has the ability to accept data (input), process it, and then produce outputs.

Computer laboratory. are instrumental in helping students learn, work with

software programs, complete assignments and interact with their instructors. Most
importantly, these IT labs enable learners to acquire digital skills critical in the
modern workplace without having to purchase their own hardware and software.

Computer list. provides a list of used computers or broken computers to

provide solutions and maintain computers that can be used and also maintain users.

Data. Fundamentally data-information. We typically use the term to refer to

numeric files that are created and organized for analysis. There are two types of data:
aggregate and microdata.
 Aggregate data are statistical summaries of data, meaning that the data have
been analyzed in some way. The Data Planet repository is an excellent
resource for obtaining aggregated data.
 Microdata: Individual response data obtained in surveys and censuses - these
are data points directly observed or collected from a specific unit of
observation. Also known as raw data. ICPSR is an excellent resource for
obtaining microdata files.
 Feedback. Is the transmission of evaluative or corrective information about an
action, event, or process to the original or controlling source.

REVIEW OF RELEVANT LITERATURE

This chapter reviews literature that may be relevant to our research in order
to provide insight on the effectiveness of using a computerized laboratory
management system in our school’s computer laboratories.

Computer Laboratory Management System for Improving Teaching &

Learning Methods

According to (Sealutekar,2020) they study for students and teachers to help

with daily schooling and work to minimize manual records. The system can easily
assign assignments weakly and also maintain the student's attendance. and they have
a deadline for submission of their work that will be given by the teacher to practice
the manners and the discipline in every student to follow the submission of
assignments. and once you submit your works that automatically present in that
subject what you submit,.this system can operate for monitoring the entire lab and
can see what every student what doing during the class session. So they train early to
expose more to use in the laboratory to become more professional and they focus to
help our teacher to control the heavy work pressure to lessen the time. In this system
they have special features auto shut down to keep away the overheating.

Computer Laboratory Management System

According to Our Lady of Fatima University, Philippines (2017), The purpose of the
system is to ease the managing and monitoring of Computer Laboratories and also to
facilitate the laboratory on having their lecture classes in Our Lady of Fatima University,
Philippines, specifically the Saint Benedict Hall Building. This study made a high impact on
the non-faculty and faculty members under College of Computer Studies with the use of our
System by evaluating our program using the ISO 9126 Model. The purpose of this study is to
develop a LAN-Based remote control system that can monitor the activities of the terminals
on every computer laboratory. Furthermore, to have a power control feature that can
shutdown, log off, restart the terminals and to have a file transfer feature for the files and
documents that automatically save on the computer, a computer laboratory is a place which
provides computer services to the public and usually free. On the other hand, there is a need
of protection and restrictions within networks available to the public. Users especially
students might be denied access to websites featuring adult content or sites that demand too
much bandwidth. Users that use computer laboratory are usually allowed to consume a
limited amount of time to be signed onto a machine, whether surfing the internet or using
software to do other work. Seldom, there is a charge to use a public computer laboratory but
laboratories in educational facilities tend to be available only to current students of the
school and usually must sign on so that their activities can be traced and monitored if
necessary

Computer Laboratory Management System

According to (Padilla, 2016) the Computer laboratory management system it

is a computer-aided system in which all the students in the laboratory use it with the
technologies used by the students at the time. then inside the computer laboratory
they have their own place, in the laboratory system each pc has data or attendance if
they are enter or log in to the pc. There is little information available on the past of
computer labs at colleges and universities, articles, books and websites that provide
information about the introduction of the first mainframes and the early years of
computer science education. Yet, computer laboratories are rarely mentioned in the
literature on computing in higher education. Far less academic focus has been placed
on how students have made use of these laboratory. In some respects, it seems like
the labs have quietly found a middle ground between personal computers and As

well as between usage in a classroom and use at home. Access to personal computing
applications and top-tier specialist software is provided by lab computers.

Computer Laboratory Asset Management System with Analytics

According to (Liang,2022) Laboratory Information Management Systems,

Patricia Colangeli and Fabrizio De Massis. Maria Teresa Mercante and Francesca
Cito. The Laboratory Information administration System (LIMS), according to
Lucilla Ricci, is acknowledged as a potent instrument for enhancing laboratory data
administration and reporting in both human and veterinary public health. In the
monitoring of public health, the analysis of outbreaks, and the preparation for
pandemics, LIMS is crucial. The chapter aims to present an overview of LIMS use in
veterinary fields and to report on twenty years of experience of a Veterinary Public
Institute in working with LIMS, highlighting the various aspects that should be taken
into account when evaluating, choosing, and implementing a LIMS. It also illustrates
the features of the LIMS currently in use in the Institute.

Technology
The computer lab at modern colleges and universities has evolved into a
platform for students to better engage with and understand computer technology at
the same time that computer technology has evolved into an essential ability for
people in today's society. The management and upkeep of computer lab equipment in
schools has also become a major priority for colleges and universities in order to
enhance the caliber of disciplinary instruction. However, given the current
circumstances, there are more or less issues with computer lab management in many
colleges and universities, and the conventional technology for managing computer
labs has not evolved to meet the demands of the modern classroom.(Wang,2022)

DESIGN AND PROCEDURES

The research methods and design used by the researchers to collect and

analyze the data are presented in this chapter.

Research Design

The researchers used Mixed Method research design it is a combination of at

least one qualitative and one quantitative research component for the purposes of this

paper, we define mixed methods research as follows:

It is carried out to gain a greater understanding of the current issue, but it

won't produce clear results. For such research, a researcher begins with a broad idea

and this study as a tool to identify problems that may serve as the subject of more

studies. It's important that the researcher be open to grow and progress in response to

the discovering of new information or insight such research is typically conducted

when the issue is still in its early stages because it is used to provide answers to what,

why, and how questions, it is frequently referred to as a methodology or interpretive

research using an exploratory study approach, so the researcher we’re able to more

easily and accurately analyze the respondents’ exact responses.

Tradition of Inquiry

Action Research entails looking at the evidence in a methodical manner. The

findings of this kind of research are useful, pertinent, and can influence theory.

action research is distinct from other types of research in that the relevance of the

findings to the researcher and the local collaborators is valued more highly than the

generalizability of the findings. (Riel 2020)

The researchers used Action research to further elaborate on the research

studies weakness encounter in developing the system and how it can affect the

overall functionality of the system and its reliability and how the researchers can

easily and quickly make a solution to the problems and weaknesses of the system and

further more and it can help to teach how educators can resolve arising problems in

the system. And give data on how the developers can further improve the system its

self.

Data Generation Method

We used two methods to gather information, one of which is a questionnaire

We use questionnaire with a limited number of close ended questions and rating

scale. And the second is observation We observed in the laboratory what could be the

problem and what is the solution to it, also we ask the one who is in charge of

managing the computer laboratories after that we conducted an interview to get Data

about the situation of the computer laboratories in our school.

18
DATAMEX COLLEGE OF SAINT ADELINE, INC.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Respondents and Sampling Procedure

Our Respondent in our topic Computer Laboratory system are the students

who are 2nd year and senior high course and BSIT and the professor who is in charge

of managing the computer laboratory because they are more relatable and they can

answer our survey better because they are one of those who can use or typically will

use a computer laboratory because they are the ones who have experience or will

have experience, so they are the ones we can make respondents to our Questions

made for the computer lab.

The research sampling used by the researchers in this research study is the

researchers used purposive sampling. According to (Gauravs,2017), purposive

sampling will be also known as purposive and selective sampling, purposeful

sampling is a sampling technique that quantitative researchers use to recruit

participants who can provide in-depth and detailed information.

19
DATAMEX COLLEGE OF SAINT ADELINE, INC.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

Instrumentation

The most essential resources used in this study is Self-made Survey

questionnaire through means of distributing them to the respondents the

questionnaire include a letter of information, letting the respondents know what the

study is all about and how to answer the Survey questionnaire according to

(hellevik,2015) Survey Questionnaire (interview surveys, surveys, opinion polls) are

without doubt the most widely used data collection method in the social sciences in

quantitative surveys, the same questions are presented to a relatively large sample of

persons (the respondents), usually with fixed response alternatives to choose from.

The interviews may be conducted face to face or over the phone, where the

interviewer asks the questions and notes the responses, or the respondents read the

questions and provide the responses themselves on a questionnaire form sent by post

or via the internet. The survey questionnaire is a type of data gathering method that is

utilized to collect analyses and interpret the different views of a group of people from

a particular population.

Statistical Formula Used

The provided formulas are used to the statistical presentation of the present

study's findings.

Common Statistical Formulas Statistical formulas are used to calculate values

related to statistical concepts or analyses. Here we will discuss common formulas

and what they stand for. Population Mean The term population mean, which is the

average score of the population on a given variable, is represented by: μ = ( Σ Xi ) /

N The symbol ‘μ’ represents the population mean. The symbol ‘Σ Xi’ represents the

sum of all scores present in the population (say, in this case) X1 X2 X3 and so on.

The symbol ‘N’ represents the total number of individuals or cases in the population.

Formula:

μ = ( Σ Xi ) / N

s2 = Σ ( xi – x_bar )2 / ( n – 1 )

21
DATAMEX COLLEGE OF SAINT ADELINE, INC.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

Sample standard deviation and is represented by: s2 = Σ ( xi – x_bar )2 / ( n –

1 ) The symbol ‘s2’ represents the sample variance. Pooled Sample Standard

Deviation The pooled sample standard deviation is a weighted estimate of spread

(variability) across multiple samples. It is represented by: sp = sqrt [ (n1 – 1) * s12 +

(n2 – 1) * s22 ] / (n1 + n2 – 2) ] The term ‘sp’ represents the pooled sample standard

deviation. The term ‘n1’ represents the size of the first sample, and the term ‘n2’

represents the size of the second sample that is being pooled with the first sample.

The term ‘s12’ represents the variance of the first sample, and ‘s22’ represents the

variance of the second sample.

Data Generation Procedures

First, the researcher prepares a survey questionnaire that was multiplied it to

fifty (50) number of copies sufficient to accommodate the target numbers of

respondent and after the questionnaire made, the researcher started to present the

survey questionnaire to every section, and the students started to answering it, the

survey contains fifteen (15) questions answerable by Strongly Agree, Agree,

Disagree, and Strongly Disagree.

After the researcher present the survey, the questionnaires re-collect on the

same day. Then the researcher started collected and gathered all data to analyzed and

interpreted through the use of statistical procedures, also the researchers conducted a

interview on the professor in charge of managing the computer laboratories we

conducted the interview by means of asking and getting information about the

situations and issue inside the computer laboratory by means of the fifteen (15)

questions that the researchers created and recording the response.
