Experiment 4 Report Template

This document describes Experiment 4 from a Basic Electronics course. It includes tables of data measuring the peak, RMS, and DC voltages from different steps of a circuit. It also includes review questions about half-wave and full-wave rectification. The review questions ask about which alternations of a sine wave are passed, how polarity is affected, the advantages of full-wave over half-wave rectification, and the relationship between DC voltage and peak voltage in a full-wave rectifier.

REVIEW QUESTIONS
1. A diode will pass only alternation of a sine wave.
2. A half-wave rectifier can produce positive or negative pulsating dc, depending on the that the
diode is placed in the circuit.
3. A full-wave rectifier passes both of a sine wave.
4. In terms of polarity, the output of a full-wave rectifier has both alternations of the sine wave input
voltage going in the direction.
5. What is the main advantage of full-wave rectifier over the half-wave rectifier?
6. The main advantage of the bridge rectifier over the standard full-wave rectifier is that it does not
require a transformer.
7. When one of the diodes in the bridge circuit opens, one of the will be missing at the output.
8. From the data, what conclusion can you draw about the relationship between the dc voltage across R L
and peak voltage in a full-wave rectifier?

Answer to Review Questions

1. half-cycle
2. direction
3. both the positive and negative half-cycles
4. same
5. Provide a large amount of output voltage from a given AC input voltage.
6. center-tapped transformer
7. half-cycles of the ACinput voltage
