1. The probability that a bomb dropped from a plane strike the target is 1/5. If six bomb
are dropped, find the probability that at least two will strike the target and exactly two
will strike the target. [Ans. 0.34464, 0.24576]
2. With the usual notations, find p for a binomial variate X, if n = 6 and
9P( X = 4) = P( X = 2) . [Ans. p=1/4]
3. In a book of 520 pages, 390 typo-graphical error occur. Assuming Poisson law for the
number of errors per page, find the probability that a random sample of 5 pages will
contain no error. [Ans. e−3.75 ]
4. In a Poisson frequency distribution, frequency corresponding to 3 successes is 2/3 times
frequency corresponding to 4 successes. Find the mean and standard deviation of the
distribution. [Ans. mean=6, S.D.= 6]
5. Given that the random variable X with density function
2𝑥, 0<𝑥<1
𝑓𝑋 (𝑥) = {
0, 𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑤𝑖𝑠𝑒
1
find the PDF of 𝑌 = 8𝑋 3 [Ans. 6 3 𝑦 , 0 < 𝑦 < 8]

6. Assume the mean height of soldiers to be 68.22 inches with a variance of 10.8 inches.
How many soldiers in a regiment of 1000 would your expect is be over six feet tall?
(Given that  (1.15) = 0.3749 ) [Ans. 125]
7. In a normal distribution, 31% items are under 45 and 8% are over 64. What is the mean
and standard deviation of the distribution? (Given that  (1.41) = 0.42,  (0.19) = 0.50 )

[Ans. mean(  ) = 50, S.D.( ) = 10 ]

8. The joint PDF of X and Y is 𝑓(𝑥, 𝑦) = 𝑒 −(𝑥+𝑦) , 𝑥 > 0, 𝑦 > 0, find the PDF of

distribution of getting (a) 4 heads (b) at most 4 heads. (Given that
 (1.44) = 0.4251,  (0.866) = 0.051 ) [Ans (a) 0.12 (b) 0.1949]
