Manpower Allocation Numerical:

Q1. State Bank of India is a busy bank that has requirements for between 10 and 18 Cashiers,
depending on the time of day. The lunch time, from noon to 2 P.M., is usually heaviest. below
indicate the workers needed at various hours that the bank is open.

The bank now employs 12 full-time Cashiers, but many people are on its roster of available part-time
employees. A part-time employee must put in exactly four hours per day but can start anytime
between 9 A.M. and 1 P.M.

9 A.M. to 5 p.m. but are allowed 1 hour for lunch. (Half of the full-timers eat at 11 A.M., the other
half at noon.)

By corporate policy, the bank limits part-time hours to a maximum of 50% of the day's total
requirement. Part-timers earn $8 per hour (or $32 per day) on average, and full-timers earn $100
per day in salary and benefits, on average. The bank would like to set a schedule that would
minimize its total personnel costs. It will release one or more of its full-time Cashiers if it is profit-
able to do so.

Q.2 Civil Engineers in L & T Infrastructure Limited have to work five consecutive days and have two
consecutive days off. Their five days of work can start on any day of the week and their schedule
rotates indefinitely. The Organization requires the following minimum number of Engineers to work
on given days as they have to finish a big Railway Project:

The Maximum number of Engineers starting their five working days on the same day can be up to 30
engineers. Find the Minimum number of Engineers which they can employ on each day?

Q3. The famous Sankalp (South Indian Cuisine) is open 24 hours a day. Waiters and busboys report
for duty at 3 A.M., 7 A.M., 11 A.M., 3 P.M., 7 P.M., or 11 P.M., and each works an 8-hour shift. The
following table shows the minimum number of workers needed during the six periods into which the
day is divided. Sankalp’s scheduling problem is to determine how many waiters and busboys should
report for work at the start of each time period to minimize the total staff required for one day's
operation?

order to minimize the total number of officers needed to satisfy the requirements?

as an LP model to minimize the number of doctors employed by the hospital.
