Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
Welcome to the Science 6 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on
Safety with Simple Machine
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by
educators both from public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or
facilitator in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12
Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and economic constraints
in schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this
also aims to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking
into consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body
of the module:
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing
them to manage their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to
encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
3
1. Identify changes in the materials that are useful or harmful to the
environment.
2. Identify the harmful effects of the changes in the materials to the
environment.
3. Suggest some ways of preventing/minimizing the harmful effects of
the changes in the materials to the environment.
4

vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged to follow the standard
sequence of the course. But the order in which you read them can be changed
to correspond with the module you are now using.
The module is about:
• Practical and Safe use of simple machines
After going through this module, you are expected to:
1. Demonstrate practical and safe use of simple machines

Lesson
Safety with Simple
1 Machine
Simple machines are useful in doing our daily tasks. It help make our work
easier and quicker to do. However, care should be exercised in using them to
avoid accidents. It can do harm if they are not properly used.
How can we avoid accidents when using simple machines? This module
discusses on the practical and safe use of simple machines.
What’s In
Let us check how well you have learned about the different kinds of simple
machine.
Try these:
Directions: Identify the kind of simple machine and its uses. Item number 1 is
used as an example.
kind of simple Uses

wedge Cutting meat
1. Knife
2. Simple pulley
3. Ladder
4. Door knob
5. Crowbar
6. Needle
7. Handle of water faucet
8. Autojack
7
Directions: Identify the simple machine you should use to do the following
situation. Item number 1 is an example.
If done answering, try to check your own work. Refer to the answer key
found at the back page of this module.

What Is It
We use tools every time we perform a certain work at home, school , factories and
in offices. How far we know the safety measures of using simple machines?
What would you like to know about the lesson on safety with simple machines?
What are some safety measures to prevent accidents in using simple
machines?
10
What are the safety measures of using pulleys?
1. Check that the ropes are of the right
gauge( thick enough ) and are in good
condition ( not yet brittle or frayed )
2. Make sure that the knots are tied correctly.
If you are not sure, have the experts check.
3. In zip lines, check the reputation of the
theme park and the competence of the
attendants. If you think the facilities. If you
think the facilities durability (the scaffolds,
the harness) or the competence of the
attendants is questionable, then don’t
continue with the ride.
4. Have safety nets and backup ropes in case
the main supporting rope snaps. For the
building cleaners, they clip themselves on
the scaffold with backup ropes.
Why should we handle simple machines properly? Are you doing these
suggested safety measures of using simple machine? Well, that’s good.
11
What’s More
Directions: Read the given situations. Draw if the practices in the use
of simple machine is safe and if the practices is unsafe.
